Awesome picks, though I’ve not delved into any of Eazy-E’s solo stuff. There was a time before I got into punk that Rap/Hip-Hop was my wheelhouse. Fat Boys’ 1984 self-titled 12” is still in my top 10. I’ve been heavily into Deep & Northern Soul lately, almost obsessed. These 3 singles fueled the fire…. The Epitome Of Sound - You Don’t Love Me Little Tommy - Baby Can’t You See The Fascinations - Girls Are Out To Get You I’m a singles guy anyway, so I don’t mind wanting to track them down …and buy them with an unforeseen inheritance or winning lottery ticket.
I have a Stax 4 CD boxset that is great. The Stax artist that I most want to add to my collection is Jr Walker and the All Stars. I have one of their albums but would love to have more.
Great selections, Richie Aretha's Atlantic output is pretty much flawless. Curtis, Otis, Marvin - they wrote the book. I'm glad you included some blues. The Howlin' cover is great. That's the cleanest copy of There It Is that I've seen. Now why did you put Prince in Time Out; leave him in the corner? You have a Dirty Mind,!
You Sir are the best. If we asked any other V.C. person on youtube to showcase black artists in their collection they would have just 1 album. Bob Marley's Greatest Hits.
I have a few of these and out of all of them, Innervisions is tops for me....followed closely by Otis, Marvin or Sam Cooke. Though Aretha is always good too. Lol this is why I have a hard time ranking. Just something about those that are so damn good. Awesome selection man. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Hello Rich war has some cool funky jams! Aretha. Oh she was great !Parliament always gets the dance floor on fire.Yellowman is cool Reggae! Thumbs up! Trish
Hi ya Pat👋🏻.....oh this is gonna be good....I don’t segregate mine either except as you say, reggae, blues, funk,....omg!!! You saw Eric w WAR???? DANG! They are crazy cool dig WAR✊🏻🎶🎶 innervision my favorite 🎶🎶nice Herbie albums, you saw Herbie too?😮🎶🎶 no Mississippi John Hurt?? I see Prince lurking in the corner😁 cheers Rich✊🏻☮️🎶
Great picks Richie! NWA's ''Straight Outta Compton'' was a revelation for me. I bought it when it first came out, and played it everywhere I went, mostly on my Walkman but also in my car and at the beach. It took me out of my routine of listening to The Grateful Dead and Jazz. I was happy that all my friends enjoyed it too, which was sort of a surprise. Tip of the hat goes to Stevie Wonder for helping make Martin Luther King Day, a national Holiday. Another tip of the hat to Stevie Wonder for playing drums with Hendrix on his BBC sessions. ''Songs In The Key Of Life'' is one of my favorite albums by a Black Artist.
I have never seen that Funkadelic album - very cool. All my friends had that RL Burnside Whiskey album when it came out (along with me) - I guess you basically needed it to be in the group. Go Ahead John is so fantastic.
Great list Richie. For some reason I’ve gotten away from buying black music, although I have plenty. I’m making it my mission to pick up many more in ‘24. I’m an old white dude, and I’ve seen some of the greats like Muddy, Marley and the Wolf. Cheers.
Great list, to bad you couldn't shoehorn in Love and the Bad Brains. One of my favorite drummers of the HC era was D.H. Peligro of the the Dead Kennedys. Another great video.
War albums are great, they were even better live and influenced many bands in SoCal. That long sax solo on the world is a ghetto inspired me to get deeper into jazz. I Never Loved a Man was a breakthrough, the later Young Gifted and Black is also a fave. All good picks.
Hey Rich. Great list. As a fellow old white dude, this is very close to who I would choose. Love that you showed Run-DMC... dig those cats. Of course, your blues picks are outstanding. Thanks. Cheers!
Class video Richie! Eazy Mudda Funkin‘ E! I’ve got Aretha Now on Cd, but need to get some of that good stuff on vinyl. Nice Parliament collection! Love me some Love ❤️ Loads of great stuff on here… cheers, Jack
Great video, as I was watching it what caught my attention is how cool most of those albums covers are. Surprised to not see Prince in that list but top list are not easy to make, I can’t do it . Cheers
Great video, Richie. What can I say? You are so effortlessly cool. Always with unique records and with something interesting to say about each one. That Curis Mayfield album is brilliant (As is his first record). Both are more difficult to find than they should be. And those two Howling Wolf albums are essential. I’m with you on James Brown’s Talking Loud (and saying nothin). There is a killer workout of the song on the CD compilation Funk Power. Its on RU-vid. It’s unedited and worth hearing if you dig the track. Thanks for blazing your voice and music across VC. Cheers!
From yet another old white cat, my Top 10 in order are: *James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix* *Sonny Sharrock* *Billie Holiday* *Marvin Gaye* *Blue Magic* *Barbara Mason* *Jimmy Smith* *The Commodores* *Desmond Decker* *The Intruders*
Facts Of Life by Bobby Womack is my favorite R&B album & his single Across 110th St. is so good it plays in the opening & closing credits of Jackie Brown. Madonna ripped off Arthur Lee & Love on Beautiful Stranger which " borrows " from She Comes In Colors.
Surprised how low Arthur Lee was, I like the first love album and de capo slightly more than forever changes. I thought maybe you would have pure hell or the stains on your list
Here is my list: The Jackson 5/The Jacksons Marvin Gaye Teddy Pendergrass The Temptations Smokey Robinson Run DMC Public Enemy King’s X Fishbone Living Colour
Black Artists? Don't get me started. There's so many great ones. I suppose that's their greatest contribution to humanity their music more so than any other race..... LOL that Grits and Soul was a big disappointment Pat. After grooving the Live at The Apollo album the next one I got was that Grits and Soul. I had no idea it was an instrumental album which really pissed me off. LOL... I'd of had a lot of early 50s rocker bands in any list I'd make up. I was surprised not to see Lenny Kravitz and glad not to see Drake in your video......
MET MUDDY WATERS KING OF THE BLUES IN BOSTON 1975 A FEW YEARS BEFORE HE PASSED. SAW HOWLIN WOLF AND A FEW OTHERS FROM THE OLD SCHOOL OF BLUES. ALL PASSED NOT LONG AFTER. DON'T MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE.
