This was a first for us. Olden, Norway water shuttle turned into Leon, Norway literally overnight. So how did this change our plans? Come along and see...
We are on a 14 night Icelandic & Norwegian Fjords Princess cruise. One of our ports of call was Olden, Norway. The small town of Olden lies at the furthest point inside of Norway's majestic Nordfjord about 65 miles from the open sea.
On this day we had another ship in port that was docked in Olden, therefore were going to be a water shuttle (tender). We were told we were going to be shuttled into Olden, but apparently that changed overnight and we were shuttled into Leon, Norway.
Loen is located about 6 kilometers north of the village of Olden and about 11 kilometers southeast of the municipal center of Stryn. If you are planning to do the Leon Skylift, then you are in luck! It is right where the water shuttle brings you ashore. But just as we arrived it started to rain and the line for the Skylift was VERY LONG. There was also the Olden Sightseeing Bus, but it was just to shuttle people to Olden where the tour starts. Unfortunately they did not have tickets for purchase. You needed to pre-purchase your ticket in order to board. Thinking we were going into Olden and we were going to just explore the town, we didn't know what to do next.
Without having booked anything for the day we decided to walk towards Olden and stumbled upon the Leon Active center where we rented E-Bikes (another first for us!). Having never done this before we (mostly Andrea) were a bit nervous but it turned out to be one of the best ways to explore this area around Lake Lovatnet and the Lodalen Valley.
We left the Leon Active wlocation and headed out on our adventure to see a glacier. Located within the protected area at the end of Lodalen Valley lies Kjenndalsbreen glacier, which is the lowest-lying offshoot of Jostedalsbreen glacier. Jostedalsbreen glacier is the largest glacier in Europe. In total we covered about 52 km which is about 32 miles.
Along our route we encountered some beautiful views, charming homes & historical buildings, and a bit of wet weather. So come along with us as we explore the Lodalen Valley on our port day that was supposed to be in Olden, Norway.
