Oh its not boring girly! im always walking & looking at old buildings and appreciating how they wer built and of course the familys who lived there, and what happened to them if only they could build the same in the here and now! we will never forget the good old days😁🙋💃🙌 love wendy.
I was born and bred in Oldham and came across your site accidentally. We left Oldham for Canada in 1973 and we haven't been back for 12 years. I was born on Wallshaw Street (where the bus garage was) went to St Stephens and the Bluecoat School. Of course in my head Oldham is what it was like it was when left, but I know it's changed. Thanks for letting me see how it is now. The Mr and I will continue watching your site.
Thank you Irene and it's so lovely to hear from you. I'm doing a video on mumps so I'll try and take in walshaw Street. There are loads of videos I've done going back months so I hope you enjoy them x
Wow what a trip down memory lane. I grew up on North Gate so spent many an hour on Hollins Rd. It really has changed though. I used to work in Alan Tappers Newsagents after school. Also remember the other Newsagents (think it was Vivien's) up towards Frederick St. I can remember the Queens silver jubilee in 1977 spending it at the Brit. I remember the Hiltons who owned The Falconers. The George was where my dad and grandad used to go for their pints together. Hollins Road used to have some great shops back in the day. Thanks for the trip.
Fantastic Sarah, i dont now sadly reconize much, but certainly know the names of the streets etc. Very sad to see soo much gone. Including I found out my old school Parish Church...I wondered if you have any vision of Parish Church Junior School, or a video.
My Gran lived in garden suburbs, my mum used to work in the Brit, the flats above the shops used to have blue painted wood - you knew you were nearly home when you saw it, I used to get the 428 to Manchester.
Yew Tree House is just up a ginnel facing the shops on Long Lane,Chadderton.I just know it's an old building.was formerly a care home for a few years and more recently some type of hostel for teens, but I believe no longer due to a local petition.I'm just curious as to whom it belonged years ago? Oh, I was looking into Terry Hall the other day(of Lenny The Lion fame)..ask your mum! Lol!! There's a plaque on a house somewhere near the junction of Middleton Road and Broadway apparently 'cos the house he was born in was demolished.Just thought I'd let you know that because I know you are often in Chaddy cemetery! Keep up the good work. It's always so interesting!!🥰
I grew up on copster hill road (went to lyndhurst). It is weird, not much has changed since the last time I was there. I so badly want to go into the falconers, I walked pasted that place so many times when I was a kid. I wish they didn't replace lyndhurst, I believe the old building was amazing to look at.
I love how beautiful you are,you do great uploads, you have a great voice, you do Oldham proud Sarah.,Sarah what do you use for uploads regarding phones/cameras etc,the picture quality is excellent.
I used to meet my in laws about once a month in the falconers,'cos they lived at bottom of Copsterhill Road by the bus stop. Great Video Sarah! Have you ever done anythin' on Yew Tree House 'cos I don't really know much about it,other than we used to call it the haunted house when I was a kid? XX
The garage on the left just after the King George and before Garden suburbs used to be called the Alpine Garage, memories fade but I think the guy that owned the Alpine went on to bigger and better in the heavy recovery business. The 'Brit' was once a thriving hub and 'the' place to be, they also did fantastic home cooked lunches back in the day, so sad to see it like this :( Strange isn't it that old stone walls have been preserved yet buildings of significant historic value are left to crumble and collapse :/
I remember this garage being called The Jet when I was kid. Yes, The Brit was the place to be in the 80's, I lived in the cul de sac just across the road and it was common to see young people, including myself in those days, standing outside the pub on a Summer's evening.
Great to see this ....grew up on Green Lane Garden Suburbs......so yeah been to all those pubs.....or if it wasn't my local it was for my my mum and dad :) They always went to The Lark.....so many Christmas Parties upstairs...for us as kids.
Cathy, I remember you. Did you have a sister called Wendy? I babysat you a couple of times. I lived on North Gate and was Wendy Styles and my mum (Shirley) was heavily involved in the Rose Queen 😊. Hope you are well.
Great video shame you didn’t get to the end of Hollins road you missed two pubs the welcome/ the sett and the gardeners rest now a dentist still great to watch and good to know about our local history
I'm doing a part two. I've uncovered some history I wasn't aware of woth the sett when I found a landlord from mid 1800s lived on hollins road it showed what the pub was used for. I intend on doing it when the bloody weather gets better 😁
Hi Sarah, only just found your vids. Great stuff, I'm originally from Chadderton, so know all these places. On the Hollins Rd pubs one I thought you would have pointed out the one that was run by Albert Pierrepoint, the executioner who saw off many famous criminals and Nazis after the Nuremburg trials. He famously had a sign in the pub saying "No hanging around the bar".
Thank you Sarah your nearly where I live on this, I think you have done one on Park Bridge which I will go watch as I have never been there. I like that you appreciate the buildings and the history of them I do too. I have subbed to your channel. 👏💜
Thank you Jules. Yes I like the history in the everyday things we see and I'm always looking at stuff. I think we're lucky to live in a town so rich with history more than others. It's just a shame we're not taught the towns history in school. Anyhow I enjoy uncovering it. Thanks for subbing x
I think I must have spent a lifetime in the Lark as a young fella. The landlady in the mid to late 60's was called Lydia and, I think, her husband was called David? They ran a great pub then. They left to live somewhere on the Norfolk Broads (Kings Lynn?) and run a pub there. A childhood friend married their daughter and moved with them.
I lived on Oak road as a lad until 1972 the old wall near the end toward Hollins road was the boundary wall of a big house just round the corner on Hollins road originally it was their back garden it was then sold and the houses you see now were built.
