I think Pikmin in general had a very cynical sense of humor. From most of Olimar's ship parts being overpriced junk, to the literal trash you pick up in Pikmin 2. I'd say 4 is the only game in the series lacking it, but even still the thing that draws most of the castaways to PNF404 is to exploit it.
Olimar is characterized by being a normal guy surrounded by insanity. So it makes perfect sense his Wife would be pretty crazy. Man I wish they’d flesh them out more, I’d like nothing more than a game where all four of them are the main protagonists.
I wish they did that for Pikmin 4. Then Bulbie could be the dog companion instead of Oatchi or Moss, and the game wouldn't have to be a reimagining of Pikmin 1
@@preposteroussongs5572But then we wouldn't have Oatchi or Moss, I don't wanna live in that timeline, those two pups are precious. :3 But if they wanted to carry over the pet companion mechanic to a future game that's absolutely a way they could do it!
I spent way to long thinking about a plot here u go the game starts with olimar and his son on their journey to PNF 404 when olimar crashes losing his son for the beginning you play as olimars son having him crash land on the planet with some red Pikmin after some tutorial you find olimar being dragged away by some pikmin after getting them to drop him olimar then wakes up in a state of fear because the ships broken after that we zoom in on olimars daughter turns out she snuck onto the ship after meeting back up with the group she tells the two of a new Pikmin species she saw Man sorry i couldn't do any more
@@jellykirby2278 I love the idea of playing as his Son in the tutorial!! A plot I always had was that after Pikmin 3, Olimar quits his job at Hocotate Freight to spend time with his family. When he returns home, he finds out that his wife spent all their money and got them into debt. They thought they could do the same thing Hocotate Freight did, so they sold anything they had left to buy back the S.S. Dolphin, and immediately after reuniting with Olimar, they all immediately fly off back to PNF-404, much to Olimar’s absolute horror. Olimar’s only wish was to see his family again, and the world, like a rude genie, granted his wish in the worst way possible.
I believe there's a log in Pikmin 4 where Olimar talks about cooking dinner for his wife and how much she'd like that. Olimar says he misses those times
This is the actual reason to complete Pikmin 2 as quickly as possible. It's not like 1 or 3 where you'll die if you don't, but instead to keep Olimar's family from breaking down.
Poor children, I mean imagine your father leaves to go get money for months and then your mother neglects you and your siblings and your dog, And then she sends you and your sibling to an all day school and then spends all the money on her gambling issues, *Talk about a dandori issue*
Isn't the entire point that she's missing him so much that she's kind of having a mini breakdown? The kids all talk about how out of character it is for her, and Olimar constantly talks about how much he loves and misses her. Most of this is played for laughs/incentive to get him home and not meant to be taken this deadly seriously. I dunno- this just seems a little mean spirited considering how taken out of context it all is. She's always been feisty, and that's what Olimar loves about her, and the rest is just her going through some stuff from worrying so much about him.
This creates an endless cycle. Hocotate Frieght needs munny, Olimar gets said munny from treasures. Olimar gets compensated. Wifimar spends said munny. Olimar is now broke and needs munny. Olimar asks Hocotate Frieght for a raise. They decline. Olimar wonders why. Ahem. Hocotate Frieght needs munny. Here's to hoping olimar gets a win 😔
Yeah, but in the treasure notes, Olimar very explicitly states how much he absolutely adores his wife. Bro literally sees the sunset and thinks of when they fell in love 🥺❤️
@@EveningCloudsIf I recall correctly I think Brittany will say something about the Hocotatians’ love for vegetables if you’re playing as her at that part of the game, while Alph will say something about their love for treasure
He doesn't have his own ship anymore, the S.S. Dolphin was either sold off or destroyed, depending on the timeline. He would need to get a new ship that can house him, his kids, and Bulby, and a new life support system that doesn't run out of breathable air after thirty days.
@@richardkirkland6805isn't it in working order again by the end of Pikmin 4? maybe that was just because I got all the ship parts in his side-story and it defaults to being destroyed if you don't collapse the waveform by doing that?
Poor Olimar... Always crashing on PNF 404, struggling to make his gold digging wife happy, being overworked and used by his greedy boss.... He's probably the most realistic fictional person I've seen in media.
I think it should be noted that Olimar’s financial situation isn’t that great either, like in Pikmin 4 it’s implied they live on a budget and in 2 one of the emails shows his wife is trying to get her own job. So it does somewhat explain her slight greed whenever more money comes into the house.
Say it with me everyone! DIVORCE, IMMEDIATELY, EFFECTIVE NOW. Olimar deserves better wth, he better get the kids and dog in the divorce because hell naw this relationship stinks of toxicity and I don't see no white pikmin anywhere close.
Olimar is one of the most fleshed out characters in Nintendos library. More fleshed out than mario that's for sure. Even if miyamoto is basically afraid of more complex storytelling. The people who wrote olimar logs and letters are definitely trying to define his character more than what miyamoto will basically allow in the main plot dialogue. Like how looking at a black rubber ducky tells us olimar wanted to wear a black leather jacket as a kid. But basically got heat stroke when wearing it because he got it in the hot part of summer. 😂 Olimar is a great character.
It's crazy the difference of his wife's text in French about the lottery. In French, she says she just spent ALL of the money on lottery. It really hurts when you receive that email just after finishing the game.
I’m pretty sure greed in its various forms is a character trait widely applicable to anyone who lives on olimar’s home planet This is supported by the game in three I think
Getting pokemon ORAS vibes from when you find the letters on Deep Sea Mauville from young Prof Cozmo to his dad and we get are told that the marriage is on its last legs
A lot of these messages only appear if you take long to beat the game. It amazes me that there’s a whole big subplot that even has a character arc that most people will never see
this poor dude,in all the games he crash lands on the same planet, has he ever gotten home? I bet it's his boss's fault for keep sending him on missions, like dude let olimar go home, his kids must be teenagers by now
It's meant to show how money corrupts people. When she gets Olimar's bonuses, she becomes more and more selfish and unreasonable, even neglecting her children, but as soon as she loses it all, she regains her senses and becomes a good mother again.
@@cototototorra7106 Louie is autistic coded that's why he's so weird compared to other characters but he and Olimar still likes each other (they're not in love of course but they dp care )
I think the biggest thing about the wifes problems there's also the president having problems with the sharks and it's definitely a way of wanting you to handle everything quicker because it starts falling apart when you stagnate.
At first I joked that Olimar should had divorced her while reading those but hey some people can make HUGE mistakes, like idk money is bad kind of moral lesson. Honestly i don't see her so bad after reading some mentions of her in Olimar's notes
Yeah i honestly don't think his wife has always been like this, a common theme in these games is the longer you take the complete the objective the more gloomy things get, in the first game you had a actual time limit to how long you can play before game over, in 2 there isn't really a time limit but as you see here things at home get kinda choatic and messy the longer olimar spends on pnf 404. And in 3 while there is a time limit based on the number of fruits you collect, the captains dialog also gets a little more depressing the longer you take to get the cosmic drive key
This. Idk how to feel about his wife but I think she just misses him and isn’t coping well. People who think she’s irredeemable make me sadface (esp when theyll probably defend louie)
But the question is if it's cannon or not since nobody is reasonably going to take 30+ days to beat Pikmin 2, so it could be a non-cannon joke from Nintendo
It's odd because if I remember correctly in Hey Pikmin! Olimar basically implies that his wife makes more money and is more successful than him 🤔 I wonder what's going on with those two
His wife was a succesful lady but she lost her job for a reason, she doesnt have the money like how shes used to anymore so she relies on olimar's money
@@SaoirseVisceral ah fair enough I think I like the idea that olimar and his wife eventually get in better financial shape instead of constantly struggling
@@Rowanthecartoon **Hands you the trophy of the most clueless person ever** You have been rewarded this trophy and you let the joke fly over your head.
This video terrifies me with the existential dread of living a futile life surrounded by death and the unknown, but at the same time. Its kinda beautiful. Def one of my favorite videos 😭
sometime the things olimar's children say are so sad but the fact they come from such beautiful faces makes me want to cry and laugh so hard at the same time
Someone once -put- pull a Game Theory move on one of the treasures on Olimar’s straining relationship with his wife in a Pikipedia. I promptly removed it (as a unregistered user), telling them to never do that again.
Have you ever been working for your company in space and your wife spends all the money you earned on lottery tickets? And your son and 3-year-old daughter start telling you about it? Happens all the time!
I have the idea that Olimar doesn’t have a second job, so when he’s at home he’s just a stay at home dad who entertains his kids by showing them his favorite (very gorey) tv show/movie
I mean, to be fair, she's probably like this mainly due to Olimar not being around to keep everything in check. I bet his family is more stable when he's around. I don't try to defend his wife's actions at all tho, what she did in 2 was inexcusable, but just trying to put her actions in a different perspective. (Plus a divorce would be rather difficult without him having to compleatly shift carieers) Now riddle me this, who's a better wife, Olimar's or President's?
I know in Pikmin 2 where we get these messages from his family/friends, Louie must help olimar get treasure to pay off the debt, but to start off why does olimar have to be forced to go to that planet where he could've possibly gotten PTSD/Trauma from knowing he was on the brink of death and all that stress along with passed pikmin that he could have been depressed from watching pikmin, his loyal helpers, die. And just think about because of Louie, olimar might have to face a huge mental scar, and can't be with his family. So why does olimar have to be the star of all this? Because he has experience from PNF-404 perhaps? Or is it because olimar personally tries to be a role model and good example for Louie? Or did they just pick olimar at random? Whatever the reason, Louie owes olimar BIG TIME.
