I think you misinterpreted a few things, #1 he is talking about “miners” ex. Coal miners, etc and then “minors” on the island. #2 he is talking about how the hardworking “young men” are working themselves 6 feet in the ground and or suicide, just to get taxed to the extreme just so someone that is obese on welfare can buy another box of fudge rounds and go further down the rabbit hole of obesity. The whole song is basically about how the government slaughters the working blue collar. Not being rude just offering up another perspective

The crazy part about his second verse “We got folks in the street, who got nothing to eat, and the obese milking welfare” is that it’s true, a majority of the poor people in this country are fat in fact 35% of poor people are overweight.

I’m a 19 y/o my father has been preaching these same passions. It hurts me bc I do my own research and see the same things that my dad is saying. I want the world to become better. But as the song says “young men are putting themselves 6ft underground, and all this country does is keep kicking them down.” That’s all I feel

I heard this song for the first time yesterday on tictok of all places. I can't stop listening to it. So much passion and pain, and as part of the working class, I totally feel his message. These pricks in DC need to remember who pays their salary. The "Rich men north of Richmond" need to take note, We the People are tired of their sh!t.

This song gave me a lump in my throat. I’m a a guy who’s close to 40 years old, I live on a fixed income as a fully disabled combat veteran. It makes me literally tear up which RARELY HAPPENS in fact the only times I’ve cried in the last 15 years was when I lost one of my best friends whom I met while we were stationed in Alaska together almost 20 years ago, when President Trump was elected and when my dog Precious had to be put to sleep. I didn’t cry when I lost my mother, my nana, my cousin, either aunt etc. I grew up in Boston and I had two parents who were baby boomers and never cried. Yet what I’ve seen happen to this country that I LOVE SO MUCH I WOULD’VE GLADLY DIED FOR HER….makes me SICK!! WHEN DOES IT END? HOW FAR ARE PEOPLE GOING TO ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE PUSHED BEFORE WE FIGHT BACK? Yes when I say FIGHT, I mean PHYSICALLY…..WE’RE PAST TALKING GODDAMNIT!

The miners he’s referring to-coal miners. He wished politicians cared about helping miners find gainful employment-instead of assaulting minors of an island somewhere. He’s from Virginia. When they put an end to coal mining, a ton of small Appalachia towns went from bustling and prosperous to impoverished and broken.

Awesome song and awesome reaction. I don't ever leave comments but I felt this needed to be said. I love to see a fellow Virginian coming to light. I also want to touch on the part where you talked about food... I've been a vegetarian all my life, not by choice but I was born that way, I've never liked the taste, smell, or look of meat. As a vegetarian I thought I was pretty healthy as I grew up and thought I was following all the "healthy" ways of eating. I've lived with IBS my whole life and getting into my late 20's I started getting debilating pains in my knees, back, elbows, shoulders, and I started to notice severe psoriasis in my scalp. Fast forward to me now being 35 and actually learning what real healthy food is, I started to eat only alkaline organic food, with absolutly no vegetable oils and no dairy, just clean alkaline organic food. My joints no longer ache, my psoriasis is gone, I use to live in constant pain from a motorcycle accident in 2014 that broke my tibia in multiple places and it never healed. I no longer have that pain anymore and to really top it off I no longer have IBS. I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW LONG I'VE GONE WITHOUT HAVING SEVERE STOMACH CRAMPS EVERY DAY UNTIL I MADE THIS CHANGE. The chemicals in modern day food take a while to catch up to you fully but our bodies show us signs along the way. Listen to your body people and follow the money. It's all about the money. This isn't my genre of music but the song deeply resonated with me, Oliver's genuine emotions matched the deep frustration that is all too common for the once 'mighty' middle class. Every government solution involves us all giving up a little more. The common people must realize we are ALL just cogs in the machine, put away our political boundaries to stand together against the corrupt ruling class. I am a new fan of Oliver Anthony and I will be looking for more from similar artists.
