In 1980, infamous dictator Saddam Hussein financed a huge Hollywood budget movie. Being the most unlikely movie-buff, Saddam funded a production so ambitious it attracted some of the western world’s greatest film stars of the time. But who would be ballsy enough to shoot a film in a country on the brink of all-out war?
Oliver Reed, the last of the real movie stars. A truly one of a kind man’s man. Champion of the common folk, who’s personality overwhelmed everything in his path, yet not so far removed in the world of Hollywood that he wouldn’t go to the local dive bar and arm wrestle sailors on occasion. Good or bad he did exactly what he wanted whenever he wanted, no agents or producers could tell him what to do or wanted to get on his bad side for that matter. From peeing in peoples wine bottles and hanging off a balcony by his neck, to simply being one of Hollywood’s most famous drinkers, this man left legendary tales wherever he went.
Although his daily extravaganzas pushed the limits of drunken lunacy and debauchery none of this stopped him from being on set at 8am, clean and sober, to bring his unmatched charm and wit to the big screen. Oliver Reed lived on both sides of the spectrum, a charming gentleman who could show great compassion and make anyone laugh, and a mean and crazy drunk who always brought the life to a party and feared absolutely nothing or no one.
