People seem to be forgetting that the creator Oliver Stone was Im the Vietnam war itself so I don't care what anyone says no one can make a better film about it then like a person who was really there

I hope that people commenting on here hateful things, know that Oliver is a decorated Vietnam veteran. Platoon really help breakthrough to America what Vietnam was like, and what hell our soldiers went through. America never supported our Vietnam vets, they were looked down upon. This film deserved to win. You should always support a movie that helps tell the stories of the veterans who can't.

Platoon won, and it deserved it. It really helped alot of people understand Vietnam. My father served 3 tours in the 198th Infantry and seen a hell of alot of combat. When he and thousands of others came home, they couldn't tell their story. They didn't know how. They weren't accepted and were not appreciated. Platoon shared some of the heartbreak that our guys went through. Oliver Stone, also is a Vietnam veteran and did his share of combat. He really did great job with Platoon.

Excellent speech by the great Oliver Stone both thanking those who helped him win, but also and more importantly, emphasizing the negligence of our politicians regarding Vietnam, which was akin to a failed experiment with young American lives that should never occur again, but if it does, it is because of their ignorance and failure to acknowledge their past mistakes in Vietnam. Kudos, Oliver. You deserve that Academy Award and have never made or written a bad film. You’re brilliant.🎬❤️🎬

If you have been light infantry you will understand that Platoon represents the typical experience for line infantry in Vietnam. Apocalypse Now is a very, very, pin point view of what could have happened to a select group of people in a large scale war.
