Strange how none of the so called sympathizers are track n field athletes.

"Growing backlash", "growing support", the token critic has been 'vocal', and Semenya has been 'dignified'--that's not journalism, that's editorializing.

The ruling should be, not allowing XY cromasome athletes in woman's events.

They are only applying the rule to females with xy chromosones...Track is taking a stand on the chromosonal level to split the two classes, as this was a gray area. These women are just missing the point that physical competition needs to be segregated on physical attributes like sex (xx or xy). The IAAF is not considering gender at all, so If you want to compete in sport, get ready to be judged and tested to figure out if you can compete. The gray area will constantly be challenged and better defined as people use drugs and other methods to gain advantages. Obviously for the longest time sport didn't need to separate sex and gender , but now they see the need to do so, and I 💯 agree with their decision, xx and xy should be the classes we use to describe them.

Why is the testosterone level on apply to certain races? The testosterone test should apply to all female events. So I don't like the bias on how test is being targeted

The IAAF basically is putting the women standards below the men's. That's insulting.

The only question that needs to be asked is, was she born a man or born a woman?

The ruling might not seem fair to her but it's not fair to other women either to have to compete with someone born with higher testosterone. Perhaps, it's time for a third category, just like the growing popularity for a third gender. Who knows what the futures holds, we might even need a separate category for GM babies too.

If a fetus is exposed to unusually high levels of testosterone during the critical period of *genital differentiation, If being a girl biologically speaking your a girl (*chromosomes wise) but due to the high levels of testosterone, the girl will develop a increases in muscle mass and male features. Females do produce testosterone levels (ovaries) but it's small amounts due it clash with female estrogen. Caster has hyperandrogegism. Her ovaries and other hormones (androgen) in simple terms, are out of wack. This is what a high level of testosterone level is. giving her a more muscle mass and male features. She is female...but her ovaries just produces high testosterone naturally. (out of wack) (like males) Now if you were a fetus exposed to unusually low levels of testosterone during the critical period of genital differentiation. If being a boy biologically speaking your a boy, but impaired growth of the external sex organs although born genetically male, that male could be born with female genitals. Note* Yes chromosomes indicate if you are a boy or girl but it's the *SRY gene that indicates the sex. this gene provides the instruction into protein which involved in male typical sex development( Y chromosome). Fun fact: we all start off as girls until the SRY gene kicks in. It takes nine weeks for the fetus to form into a boy or a girl.

So uneducated. Someone said in comments that she is biologically a man. She is not biologically a male and that is not what the docs said. There are thousands of intersexed people born all over the world everday. They are essentially walking the line gentically between male and female. They used to be called hermaphrodite which is a term no longer used. They can look physically like a male in every way but maybe be born with female genitalia (vulva and/or ovaries). They can also look physically like a female in everyway but be born with a vaginal and testicles ( or a combination of a penis but insted of testies they may have internal ovaies or any other combination of this. They could also look like male or femal physically but be born with what is referred to as ambiguous genitalie where when you inspect the genitalia at birth it is unable to be determined if its a penis or vagina because the development was interupted at the point where genetalia in a fetus begans to change into a male or female. I.e all fetus start out the same and at a vital point the genetalia changes to either male or female. But in these cases something in the process gets does not process completely. Google it or pick up an encyclopedia ( opps, silly me, we are too good for encyclopedias now a days) so that you can make even half way educated statements. When these children are born many parents years past and even now are often forced to make a decision to raise a child as a male or female. Can you imagine looking like a male physically in every way but be born with a vagina or with a penis so tiny that your parents decide to raise you as A female even though your brain is telling you that you are male?! So to make the statement that she is male is crazy, uneducated/ignorant, and irresponsible

What is too frequently overlooked in the debate about Caster is that she has XY chromosomes. If you have XY chromosomes you should compete vs other XY, regardless of testosterone levels, appearance, or how you identify. Such a policy would be clear cut, impossible to cheat, and fair for EVERYONE.

This is evidently biased coverage, which news organization covers multiple balanced stances? I am an adult who is capable of forming my own opinions, what I need is to be informed of pros & cons for multiple arguments, not spoon fed one argument like this, and much coverage.

You may not like it but this is protecting women. Yes Caster is a woman, But pretending like she doesn’t have an advantage is holding women back. Boxers have weight divisions, and the qualifications for running are divided by Sex, But when I say sex, it is broken down even further, it is defined by what biologically makes up a woman and makes up a man, she has eight times the amount of testosterone levels as women who are born with out the XY chromosome she has, stop the clownery she should be grateful it lasted this long.

What our SJW friends can't seem to understand is that the ruling had nothing to do with what is fair to one person. It was about protecting women's track competitions. No one wants to watch a race where they know who is going to win by 50 meters. It's the competition that brings fans out, and it's the fans that pay the athletes. Without the competition and suspense, the entire sport becomes irrelevant. It is the great moral dilemma of our time that we are having to impose legislative equality on biological inequalities. What is right changes drastically based which perspective you take. The IAAF simply took the perspective of the many and not the one, and it is extremely prejudicial and disingenuous to paint them as bigots when all they are doing is trying to ensure that women still have a reason to want to get into elite track and field.

First of all i can respect them as human beings, they are just doing what they fell is right etc. But you cant put men in against women. People who say "But women or men have different bodies to each other anyway" that argument dosnt hold true. End of the day in Elite physical athletics men have big advantages physically over women. Why cant Semenya in this case race against men but as a trans woman? Check the chromosomes. XX athletes (females) should compete against other XX's. XY's should not compete against XX's.

This argument is rather difficult. Let us talk about this testosterone... I am a male athlete. My level of testosterone is rather too small compared to other males. It also affected my appearance to the extent many people believed I was gay (very very light weak feminine voice, no beads, weak masculinity). As a long distance track runner, I compete with giants, fully masculine guys with advantage of VERY high testosterone as compared to me. It’s illegal to take pills, like steroids to increase my level...nonetheless, I would not put my health in danger because of that. I Back to Semenya, that is just an ADVANTAGE she has...which can be seemingly be compared to many other advantages an athlete could have. Coming to science and sporting laws, *intersex* have no place in sport !! Because participation is determined by so called “XY” and “XX” chromosome. *My personal opinion and recommendation* ; Science can use chromosomes to define sex, but sport can give the meaning of sex a wider meaning in extension to their rules. Because what they are doing to Semenya is immoral, and could endanger her health in the long run. She was legally recognized as female at birth and has identified as female her entire life
