I've always been a big fan of the Olympic Dolphin series. They can usually be obtained very inexpensively and in better condition than a lot of their Penn counterparts. Downside is the parts availability isn't great. Just picked up a great condition Dolphin 612 (Looks kinda like the Penn Squidder without the anti-reverse override) for $11 and can't wait to land some fish with it! Just hoping I don't lose the dog spring when I'm cleaning it.

HI again front NZ. Thanks for the great tips. I was looking at buying an old Dolphin 612. More confident now that I see how close to Penn reels they are. Also, that was a gr8 tip on trimming down the drag washers. I will use that when needed in the future. Gr8 Video.

Awesome job Dennis especially making the drag washers. Almost a clone to the Penn. However can't perfect perfection. Nice reel but I'm a diehard peen man. Only other reel I like as good as penn is Abu garcia I like using them for fresh water fishing peen for salt water.

Hello great vid, I will make some drag washers the same way... I know you did this some time ago but I was wondering if you know if any of the pinion gears are interchangeable with the PENN pinions. Mine is stuck on very hard and heat and lube is not working so far. I feel I will damage the gears getting it off. Its a Olympus Dolphin 614 in great condition otherwise. It just has a sentimental value and Id like to get it going. If I cant get the gear off is it possible to reassemble with it still on the shaft? Thanks Nick

Very good job. Most would have "chuck-ed" (pun intended) it in the can like they do anything that requires that awful word "repair." Pu-e! I love how you names off all the parts. I have an Olympic Dolphin 625-LW t6hat clicks and looks almost new, but it won't reel in or out any string and the guide doesn't move. Is the internals of it similar to the one you're working on here? (I think you called that one a 615?) Thanks for the upload.

Hi Dennis. I could be wrong, but those harness lugs looked like they were supposed to be angled inward. Personally I never saw this myself, but the both of them looked to be bent almost at exactly the same angle. What are the chances that they were banged around exactly the same? Also, I would imagine if they were banged inward, the chrome would be marred up. Didn't notice in the video. Keep up the great work! Love the videos!

Hi Dennis. I believe you said the middle reel is a "Compac (sic) 8000 reel." I found a reel exactly like that only is says "Anon Shaw" for which there are no schematics. Just wondering if "Compac" made the Anon Shaw that I have. Thanks!

Hi mate, thanks for your videos. I have a special request if you would be so kind to help me. I have recently come into possession of my late father’s Olympic Dolphin reel, it’s over 20 years old and starting to rust. Some of the screws have rusted off but it is otherwise in a good enough condition to restore. I’d love to restore it as it has sentimental value. I love fishing but I know nothing about how reels operate mechanically. I thought I’d give it a go by cleaning it, but tiny springs and parts are popping out and I haven’t the slightest clue where they go or how to put the reel back together. I would probably be no good at reading blueprints even if I could get my hands on them but it seems like a good place to start? I am reaching out to you in hopes that you would assist me in restoring this reel. I would be in your debt. Please let me know if you can help me. Thank you

What is the max drag for this reel plz?

I absolutely hope how you treat those reels just throwing the parts around and what not. I'd be pissed if you threw my reels like that. Making money is one thing but respect for someone else's personal property is a other.
