Bro I never doubted Djokovic for a second. Djokovic would have won Wimbledon had he not had knee surgery. Djokovic has had bad starts to the year before but then by RG was in form again and this year Djokovic just got injured, but today we saw why Djokovic is still the best player in the world when he’s not limited due to his knee still recovering.

Alcaraz is a fearsome opponent and I knew it would be a struggle, but I never doubted him either. He beat him before, and he could do it again, he just had to look deep inside for what, as of this year, maybe took a little while to reemerge😂

On top of psychological challenge of turning the tables since his defeat to the same player in their most recent match he had to battle and overcome an injury to top it all of, and he does all of that by not even dropping the set in ANY of the six matches en route, not even to Nadal or Alcaraz! You can't make this shit up!
When I was a kid, I used to think Federe and Nadal were going to stand alone at the summit of tennis history. Turns out, the real conqueror named Novak Djokovic conquered this sport all by himself.
He's truly a mentality monster. The amount of times he had an entire stadium or organization cheering against him throughout his career and he still brought the trophy home is insane. Nole, you are indeed one of the greatest athletes of all time
Honestly thought Novak would get bulldozed by Alcaraz in the gold medal match, instead we got what, the best 2-setter ever and he came out on top. Even after the year he's had, it's wild how it seems like sometimes he can just flip the switch and start playing incredible whenever he wants to or needs it the most, no matter who the opponent is.
I think the motivation was the kicker...he really wanted the gold medal, the one thing he hadn't won, representing his country. He wanted this for Serbia and for himself.

I can think of a few, 25th slam for intergender singles record surpassing Court's 24, 109 titles of Connors overall in the open era, oldest grand slam winner in the open era by winning ANY of the slams from this point onwards and several more trivial stats like most seasons reaching all 4 slams QFs (he is USO away from pulling this one off!), improving his personal best by winning at least one major title for 7th consecutive year but only if he wins the USO this season, some ranking related records (not necessary number one related, thise are all cleared now by Novak, but bunch of top-2, top-3, top-4, top-5 or even top-10 ones are still left with Nadal or Federe still marginally ahead in some of those...), scoring yet another season in 80% win rate or more for the new record of numbers of such seasons accumulated etc...all the smaller records and trivial stats, that are all within Novak's reach! I think he will get if not all of those, than at least 90% of them...

I really struggle to understand how anyone that has followed the sport of tennis for 30 plus years could consider Djokovic to be the greatest to have played. I can't even make it though one of his matches without succumbing to boredom. I get that his numbers are great but he just lacks that X factor and magic that makes so many love sportsman like Federer or Jordan. I can remember in the mid 2000's I would jump at the chance to watch Federer play anyone regardless of ranking just to witness his latest magic trick (same with Jordan in the late 80's /early 90's). I can't imagine David Foster Wallace ever wanting to write about Djokovic.
