Look how effortless her sighting is. I have to use a lot of energy to get my head out the water to get a decent look.

Heather, thanks for doing this interview. So interesting. I really struggle with transferring my pool pace to OWS. That aside, Alice, you’re an inspiration to many out there. It’s so great to see you doing what you love, and at such a high level. Followed you at the olympics. Well done, keep doing your thing! X

Thank you for this interview, Heather! Alice, The information was helpful and inspiring. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with OWS at a tri-training camp, and it was impactful. Your story is inspiring, I will continue to focus on success as I train for my first HIM.

Great video. nice to hear from the elite athletes. Most of my swimming is open water because I live lake side. Find I struggle in pool because of the chlorine. I will never hit her times but I keep trying to do better.

I really appreciate this insight. I'm fully confident in the pool but there's always some panic when I start open water (literal panic; last race I tried to undo my wetsuit in the lake and seriously considered swimming back to shore). I don't understand why I have this reaction but at least I'm learning that I can swim through it.

Great to see a Brummie doing so well !!! I've been watching Alice's' career since she came second in The Great North Swim a few years ago ( I think she's lost her Brummie accent a bit since then unfortunately). One question I would have liked her to have been asked is if she has any interest long term in doing Triathlon. Lucy Charles comes from an Open Water background, so I think there's a good precedent for her to follow.

So if she’s holding 1:13ish pace for her 10x200s LCM, what pace is she holding in the OWS? Curious how the pool converts to the open water pace. Great video!
@dennisweiss263
@dennisweiss263 2 года назад
I think she said 2:13 for 200, so 1:06-1:07 per 100. And she did 2:05 for the 10k at the Olympics, that's a 1:15/100 pace in the open water for the 10k distance.

She said 1:15 pace. She means 100m in 1 minute 15 sec? I feel like something is wrong. Last week I swam 700m with a 1:19 pace and there is just no way I swim as fast as her. Last night I swam 2300m (with a snorkel) at a 1:18 pace. I get that the snorkel helps tremendously but I can’t believe my arms can pull me at the same pace as her. My Garmin tracks my pace in the pool so I think it’s accurate but it seems unbelievable.
@gileshyland2573
@gileshyland2573 2 года назад
She’s swimming well under 19 mins for 1500m on that pace, that’s very handy bearing in mind that will probably be her ‘all day’ cruising pace. It is anything but slow. Sub 19 mins would be competitive in a men’s 1500m ITU swim for context. If you’re holding 78 secs for 100m over a prolonged distance in training that’s exceptional for an amateur triathlete. At 1.19 pace you’re leading out the swim (by miles) at any local Tri (sub 10 mins for 750m for example).

Either you are a very fast swimmer naturally or you don’t have your Garmin set up correctly for your pool length. Garmin only tracks your laps, you have to enter the pool length in the set up screen.
@bro7269
@bro7269 2 года назад
@@mintheman7 Good point. I didn’t think about that. The YMCA pool says 32 laps = 1 mile. 5280/32 = 165 ft = 50 meters so I think it’s right. This is what the watch (745) is set to also. It just seems unreal to think an old fart like me that has only been swimming for less than 6 months can pull times like that. I might have to actually measure that pool length.
@mintheman7
@mintheman7 2 года назад
@@bro7269 Do they define one "lap" as one length of the pool or an out and back loop? Makes a huge difference! If you can hold 1:18/100m pace in a long course pool (real Olympic size pool vs 25-yd pool more commonly found in YMCA's), that's even more impressive!

I was horrified when she was swimming right next to a jellyfish. That’s what I fear the most when swimming in open water, when the water is not very clear hitting a jellyfish. Usually I don’t use neoprene because when the water gets colder I only swim in the pool.

Same. I haven't done anything in salt water yet, but still. I'm in a weird place when it comes to open water swimming. I'm about as far south as you can get without getting gators so there really isn't any wildlife in there that I'm scared of. Maybe cottonmouths, but that is all. Drunk boaters on the other hand......Its nice to have a partner is a boat spotting me.

Hawaii we don't use wetsuits either usually. Jellyfish are primarily seasonal/tidal/moon based. If you aren't allergic the pain is usually manageable. You could just wear basic rashguard. Box can be pretty rough I hear but man of war and other jellyfish are dull stinging sensations.
@deanb61
@deanb61 2 года назад
@@Flowmada too many people believe the media hype. If you're allergic then sure, they can be dangerous, but for most people most jellyfish stings are more like nettle rash.
