Great video, I'll be getting the Em1 ii for sure and use my Em5 ii as a backup.

I tried Canon and Nikon, Sony. I've been in photography for 30 years. I started with an Olympus and have returned to Olympus. best in quality for color reproduction in prints. Olympus is an innovator in many things and not until another brand copies Olympus do the Canon, Nikon and Sony buffs go wild.

See the OIS at work: start at 7:08 - at 7:16 he stops (no sidewards movement, steady image) but the small light spot in the right still keeps moving :)

Many thanks, Really enjoyed see the different lens in use. very helpful. Seeing the video work of the E-M1 mkII especially sense Olympus has been behind the curve in Video till now. Video with stabilizing is awesome and truely brings this camera and Olympus to a new level. Eight months ago I switched from Canon to Oly E-M5 mkII and have been having a great time learning what this camera can do, I'm now a convert. I found over time that I'm carrying this camera with me far more often than I did my Canon gear. It's compact, powerful and versatile. I'm very impressed with the lens Olympus and Panasonic offer as well. I would love to upgrade to the E-M1 mkII but what a price...Och. If only Olympus would offer a good trade-in deal I'd be on board.

great review. I was set to buy the Sony a7r II, but now I'm thinking the new Olympus OMD E M1. I have the Olympus OM-1 film camera. It would be nice to get back into Olympus cameras.

With omd getting released too close to my travel date i pulled the trigger on X-T2 last week. It will be interesting to see a proper review and what the public think of it.

For mine the old EM-5 is so damn good for what I do that I don't want to upgrade. Still I hope people buy in - an industry where there's a lot of competition is a good thing. Must be a bit of a problem though for camera companies now that improvements are often more incremental than revolutionary.

This is the best piece I have seen on this camera. I now have it and the 12-100 mm on order. Is there a good impartial video you know of on the new 25mm lens?

Cracking presentation, thank you. I have an EM1 mark II and 12 - 100mm f4 PRO on pre order and this presentation reiterates the fact that it was a good move (I already own 2 x EM1's). Thank you for the bird in flight captures: I photograph wildlife so it was of value to me. The video footage made me want to start videography - no, only kidding; mine will just be for stills. For me, Lachlan Moore's featured stills are stunning.
@maximme
@maximme 7 лет назад
notice the bird in flight series the background is PERFECTLY in focus. That means, THE DEPTH of field is covering both the bird and background. you cant see out of focus shots this way, so even if the AF cant track, its still basically in focus.

sequence starts 4:58 some motion blurr in the background But basically background still very sharp in focus

Many of the 4K video shots were very soft. Almost all the shots on the boat or by the water were really soft. Was this a focus issue or something else? It's hard to believe the camera was set for 4K in those shots.

I want to use this camera for my work but I never do... And to the troll arguing about the poor image quality, he's right. lol Comparing the files with a FF is night and day difference. For personal use however, it's amazing. I love it. Maybe if they had made a 70-200 (140-400 equiv) 2.8 for $2k CAD, I would give it a shot for sports. I mean, 6 companies can make that lens except for Olympus and Panasonic? What the hell. It's just a way to make people spend more on their overpriced lenses.
@SP800.69
@SP800.69 6 лет назад
Thanks for the reply. I understand this, I'm just pointing out that in terms of manufacturing and physics, every company is creating this lens. FF users like myself would also love to have a 140-400mm f/4 (let's say), for ~$2,500. In MFT this is possible if they just made a 70-200 2.8. Having that reach would be amazing. Instead, we have rely on a 300mm equivalent with a 5.6 DOF (150mm 2.8). Or a prime 200mm 2.8 for a really high price. I'm heading out to buy a 300mm f/4 for Canon because the Olympus 40-150mm 2.8 would give me a less shallow DOF than a 300mm f/4 on a Canon. That's what made me decide finally. It's too bad. I really wanted the 40-150 2.8 but I couldn't justify it. :(

Thanks for the review, however I'd like to hear from professional photographers who are not paid by Olympus. Do they exist?

This guy went on a trip with Olympus to test the camera. I don't think he is on their payroll. The camera has not shipped yet, when it does you should hopefully see more reviews. I am personally waiting to hear what TheCameraStoreTV has to say, I generally like their reviews as they shoot on all types of systems. Also, while I am thinking of purchasing this system, I am absolutely waiting for a price drop.

I'm a canon shooter, primarily, but will be testing this camera (recently purchased) next month in a working environment environment where I normally only trust my 1D (stills, AF tracking, and single point AF...no video)

M4/3's is a great snapshot camera, I know I own one. But for serious photography you can't beat a FF. Try using the AF on the EM1 II in a dimly lit room.....good luck. The big question is why would someone pay the same price for a snapshot camera when you can purchase a Nikon D500 or a FF Nikon D750 ? The D500 and D750 blows away the Olympus EM1 II.
@GFTryBest
@GFTryBest 7 лет назад
haha, bs. did you even try it in dimlight situation? I have tried the D750+70200G in dimlight, S-AF is not that quick compared to M1ii or even GX8. So stop your bs here.

Sounds like you are drinking some Olympus Kool-Aide....I own both so these are facts, shooting at night in NYC with the Olympus it was either out of focus or manual focus. Bottom line it's not the camera that takes the pictures...it's the person behind. So if you're comfortable with a smaller camera and that will get you to use it more.... so be it.
@tonytfuntek3262
@tonytfuntek3262 7 лет назад
Hey Mike, First...Thank you for your civil response. I have nothing against M4/3s. It's a smaller body so it travels with me more than my Nikon D800 and as we all know the best camera is the one you have with you. I'm also sure that the EM1 Mark II is a great camera. I know the limitations of M4/3s and am willing to deal with it due to the advantage of size. I do a lot of low light photography and anything above ISO 1600 is just too noisy and focus is slower. My issue is, knowing the limitations why would I pay $2000.00 on a M4/3s body when the Nikon D500 is the same price ? I'm not a Nikon fan boy so I'm sure Canon has a DSLR in that price range as well. Again...it's not the camera that takes great photos.....it's the person pushing the button.

Tony tFuntek Could you describe what you call a snapshot? and provide samples of your work?
@tonytfuntek3262
@tonytfuntek3262 7 лет назад
Snapshot or point and shoot I believe are in the same category, a camera that’s fine for less demanding situations. M4/3’s has the advantage of size so it’s great for family photos, simple vacation shots and daytime street photography etc. Due to it’s smaller size it is at times frustrating operating the custom buttons, I’m asked that I should just get the battery grip but then I lose the advantage of size! The limitations of m4/3’s are the mediocre dynamic range, poor s/n ratio and the painfully slow AF with objects in motions in low light (FYI, my 2 lens of choice are the 25mm 1.8 and 45mm 1.8). That said, pictures taken with the Olympus are very sharp. I feel the Olympus glass is second to non. Also and this may only be me, not a big fan of EVF. I love my m4/3’s camera, it’s travels with me almost all the time but for more demanding work (Landscapes, action shoots) I depend on my D800. Rumor is that the EM1 Mark II will have these issues resolved, my question is why pay $2000.00 for a camera that may be as good as what is out there already and less costly? It’s my opinion but the EM1 Mark II belongs in the $1499.00 category.

it doesn't matter which camera(s) digirect reviewed, they said all the positive points about any camera from any systems. Well at the end of the day, they are a retail shop, its pointless of watching this review, wait for the Camerastore's review. Sorry

looks like an Olympus sponsored video to me. None of those test shots were impressive. An unbiased review would have been a lot nicer.

I'm sorry but people are insane to buy this at that price point.. A pro camera that can't give a clean image at 6400 iso is not a really pro..
@Emily_Lowrey
@Emily_Lowrey 7 лет назад
george aronis my full frame gear isn't as clean as me Pen F in higher ISO. You don't believe it until you see it honestly I was so sceptical but the images are superb. I'm definitely making the jump and binning FF and having this as my main shooter
@dch2896
@dch2896 7 лет назад
Emily Lowrey You mush be joking or using a 10 year old FF camera. Pen F has better low light then a FF sensor? You must be brain washed by Olympus or paid by them. No way in hell. light is light and physics is physics. I did the test myself and it doesn't even come close. You must be delusional. Its just like saying a apsc sensor is better then medium format. LOL.
@Emily_Lowrey

I think you smoked a little too much Olympus. Are you comparing the EM1 mark ii to a Nikon D200? 😂 Nope. M43 is still M43. Fun camera but nothing more. Definitely not a Pro camera system. Olympus can buy off all the Pros they want but the smart ones won't fall into the marketing bs. There is No comparison when it comes to M43 to FF. Clear as night and day that FF is way more capable sensor. I went to dpreview and looked at the IQ comparison test. The EM5ii actually has cleaner IQ then the Pen F and EM1ii. Sad really.
@keithj9165
@keithj9165 7 лет назад
george aronis If you need high iso, m43 is probably not your solution, but that in no way dictates its pro status, if that's what you think, I'll go out on a limb and say you are trolling, please show us samples of your work
