My first DSLR was an Olympus E-Volt 510. Loved it but this one takes the cake!

I have an Olympus OM-D E-M1 and I love it, however I would love the mark 2.

Thanks for the review! I think people comparing m43 to DSLR are missing the point of m43. Yes, the sensor is smaller, and consequently not as good in low-light, but those of us that use m43 already know that. If you compare camera body size and weight, and lens size and weight (and cost) for equivalent full-frame systems, then the benefits of m43 become clear. As an avid backpacker, hiker, and travel photographer, m43 just can't be beat. The in-body (and now in-lens) stabilization coupled with some great m43 glass just can't be beat for those of us looking for portable camera systems that capture great moments. The best camera you own is the one you will carry, and I can take my Oly system anywhere. I can throw it in a backpack and just carry it with me all day. can't wait to get my hands on the E-M1 mark ii!

thanks for the review. many impressive specs. Just curious if the video capture with IBIS is really improved over previous olympus bodies.. the main thing was as good as the IBIS had been in the past, you have to admit sometimes when you're following a subject and simply moving the framing around, it has had a way of jumping and gets small jitters. Hopefully that's gone.

Dear Shawn , hello. Do you know if Olympus E-M1 Mark II will be compatible with the present MFT speedboosters ..... I know that speedbooster cannot fit into Mark I due to Olympus' front shape around the mount ...... Does the new model have the exact same front shape around the lens' mount ???? (Excellent review ... Thank you for your time.)

Are those sample images color corrected or just straight from the camera?

Hey I was curious how long can you hold down the shutter at 60fps before it stops shooting? If you did try that. Thanks.

As for video Looks awesome Steve's. What lens did you use? Are the colors from the camera or you colorized them? Can it shoot RAW? How dose it shot at night? Dose the camera have global shutter? If it dose, do you maybe know where I can find videos that tests it, or maybe you did one...
@smarthalayla6061
@smarthalayla6061 7 лет назад
I'm more interested for its video capabilities, but no global shutter. I really don't understand why a smartphone can have global shutter and cameras in the 21 century doesn't. Greed is the only thing that comes into my mind.

And the RRP price on release here in Aus? If it's us $1999 that converts to $2618 aud today. Wow if that's the case that is steep considering the original was $1599 here and they said it would only be a little more.than the original at Photokina I believe.

so I'm between Sony A6500 for $1500 or OMD E-M I Mk II for $2000. Which do yall think would be a better buy? i know Sony has Playmemories app which lets you buy apps for time lapses and other stuff which sounds extremely useful. Does Olympus have anything similar I tried looking but found nothing. Also Olympus lenses vs Sony lenses? I just feel like I could trust the Olympus more with the headphone jack, flip screen, and dual card slots but I don't want to lose out on those pretty awesome apps..

digiDIRECT thank you for your response! I actually decided to go for the Olympus because of the lenses. It's gonna be expensive but it will be very much worth it!

how does the image quality compare to the A7ii. as this is a more expensive camera
@vincentvega5091
@vincentvega5091 7 лет назад
Definitely quality from Sony will be much higher because full-frame sensor. The Oly sensor is smaller in an area of almost 4 times and RAW 12-bit
@paristo
@paristo 7 лет назад
You will not see a difference up to ISO 8000 (identical on both cameras) and 20-30" print (depending then your personal critical requirements) and nothing on the web use. The larger sensor doesn't mean magically better quality. You get about 0.5-1 stop better highlight recovery with Sony but to get benefit from that requires you to fail to get exposure right in the camera and shoot it like with DSLR. But because both are mirrorless, you get things right in camera anyways. But model is for AF, sequential speed, eliminating photographer reaction time and offering many other possibilities that no other camera have so you can get the shot and sell it for high price.

*Under moderate or low lighting conditions, speed is nothing if you don't have a high enough ISO performance (major weakest with M43) to keep the shutter speed fast enough for the high frame rate. At 16fps and 60fps. Just imagine how many photos you need to delete after the fact Just for that one shot.*

@calvinchann1996
@calvinchann1996 7 лет назад
M43 wants to challenge pro DSLR's? On the surface maybe, but really try it. I think you'll find that just by having a much smaller sensor, it won't hold up.

In your opinion is IQ equal to Fuji XT2?
@vincentvega5091
@vincentvega5091 7 лет назад
Fuji has a larger sensor, better dynamic range, much better quality at high ISO, 14-bit RAW (12-bit in oly) and better picture quality in general, but Olympus is the best for very active sports shooters

Not sure why you would place it on the same grounds as a Canon 1DXm2 or Nikon D5 and call it a direct competitor and geared to that exact market. That's not the case at all. Sony A6300 and Fujifilm X-T2... somewhat... maybe. Current G80/85/81 and soon to be GH5 from Panasonic, for sure. But how's anybody looking for something like the Canon 1DXm2 or D5 going to settle for a E-M1m2. The sensor size allows for a compact body and compact lenses. That's the beauty of the whole M43 system. But performance does take a pretty huge hit that affects noise performance, color accuracy, dynamic range, et cetera. You get the 1DXm2 or D5 because you're looking for the absolute best and fast at all costs. And there's still people who just like an OVF. In the end though, those aren't remotely the same markets or represent the same interests. The only thing they have in common, they're all top-of-the-line flagship models. But that's just about the only thing that somewhat links them. I don't think you start or switch to the E-M1 Mark II. I think it's for people who are hybrid shooters that take their gear out on trips quite a bit. Needed a very compact and affordable system... ended up with Micro Four Thirds already in the first place. To those who primarily care for video... there's Panasonic... for those who mainly want to shoot stills, but can appreciate a decent video mode (without the need for complex cinematographer modes), there's Olympus. Those who became in love with Olympus for stills (maybe not so much video) and the 5-axis in-body image stabilizer were able to step up their game with the PRO lenses. Now invested in the lens sytem, they need to get the most out of it, so Olympus launches a 'PRO' body (more so than a Mark II, also considering the price). It just covers everything. Insane speed and processing, dual card slots, mic & headphone jack on the body, vari-angle touchscreen, improved 5-axis IBIS, flat picture profile, 4K video with high bitrate, high-res stills, focus stacking, et cetera, it's the most complete camera out there. Period. It just still has that small sensor (which makes it tricky in lowlight (noise) and due to the crop it's harder to get a shallow depth of field and the selection of nice wide angle lenses is not quite on the same level). You can't have everything. Atleast... not yet.

Where/When did Olympus say this was targetted at 1DXii or D5? Do you really think someone with those cameras is going to switch systems? Come on now...

It's a tax write off, so price should be the last reason to not buy any camera.
@dch2896
@dch2896 7 лет назад
clickonmike For the same price you can get a Nikon D500 or D750 or sony A7ii. Even tho you can write it off on taxes, doesn't mean you have to buy this in my opinion, limited use camera. Reason being, under moderate or low lighting conditions, speed is nothing if you don't have a high enough ISO performance (major weakness with M43 sensor) to keep the shutter speed fast enough for the high frame rate.
