Awesome job, Rob. Today, i have been experimenting with Pro Capture and Mechanical vs. electronic. Your videos really do make learning the om1 easier. I used to kinda hate this camera infact as soon as i purchased it, i posted some nasty comments on OM Systems page (long since I have removed). The more you learn this system, the more you realize you have a great camera . I feel having an OM for lenses and a good pocket fixed lens camera for social events is all you need.
Glad to see you picked my suggestion :) I worked for many years making videos of companies and products in slow motion, and rarely each clip was longer than 3 seconds, usually they were 2 seconds. Very good to know that it is possible to produce this type of material in 5.2k and RAW. Thank you Rob!
Thank you for spending the time on my hires question. I was wondering about the color shift in raised shadows and you showed me exactly what I wanted to know. I do a lot of interior HHHR shots to use natural lighting with lower noise in private homes and cathedrals.
@@RobTrek I noticed this colour tint but it appears to be an Adobe issue rather than sensor issue I compared OM workspace and Adobe (CC subscription) since these are the two processing SW I have, OM WS produces more accurate colour representation not sure if Adobe is fully compatible at the moment

Very much appreciated 😊 and I would really like to thank you for introducing me to the world of M43rd's. 2 years ago, I was desperately looking for a camera to get into wildlife photography but I didn't have the budget to, that is when I started watching your videos and got myself a used em-1 mark ii with 40-150mm and then a 300mm later on, I couldn't be much happier! I learned how to shoot wildlife and birds in flight, and pro capture modes using micro four thirds from your videos! This week, I got to teach a friend of mine on how to use m43 cameras for wildlife and I recommended your channel! I felt like I really learned something..Thanks again Rob! 😊

Thanks. Just wait for the OM-1 mark II. The OM-1 is nice, but you can do about 99% the same on the EM1-iii for stills. For video, the OM-1 is a nice upgrade.
Well done Rob! Did you ever find a difference/improvement in your HHHR shots when using the 12-100 f4 lens? BTW: Rob: have you ever used LiveND on non-water static subjects? Used that way, it just sucks the noise out of the image -- there is almost no limit as to how high you can set your ISO using LiveND! You're Welcome.
My new OM 1 arrived June 1st. I’m eager to take it out (granted the charging cables are missing) waiting for them to arrive. I thought long and hard to purchase the upgrade. The setting are so much different then my OM D. I’m learning the settings are similar to a Sony. With one of my Panasonic lens might not work. I appreciate your comparison video. Helps to ease my feeling of buyer’s remorse.
Thanks Rob for this video. LiveND is a great feature. Looks like with the new camera, you're going to have to create another RU-vid series of tutorials like you did with the EM10MkII. That should keep you busy and out of trouble :)
@@RobTrek I also think the 5.2k video is really useful. Often times, those slow motion 120fps shots only last a few seconds (usually, the 3.75s the OM-1 can do, on a 24fps timeline, is more than enough). To me, this is vastly superior to the GH6's 4K120, which has less resolution, and capability to grade raw footage. You can do a lot of creative grading and push the footage very far with raw 120fps stills. I think it will be very usable for professional work, as most people wouldn't want to watch a slow motion shot for more than a few seconds anyways.
Hi Rob, thanks for this quality review. In all honesty, I wanted to decide if I should upgrade from my E-M1 Mark II to a Mark III -1X or the OM1. Based on current reviews and this video, I honestly can not see enough improvement to justify the cost to upgrade. From what I have seen, the E-M1 Mark III still appears to hold its own against the OM1. For my money a good used em1mkIII is better value for money. Rob, I do really appreciate the time and effort that was put into producing this video. Cheers from Australia
Great Video, really interesting to see how well the live filters compare with glass ones. I was really surprised by this - I thought it was maybe going to be a 'gimmick' feature.
Hi Rob thanks for a great video. At the end when talking 120fps the BUT was 90 frames only for 3.5 seconds. Somehow I've gone 3.5*120=420 frames, please correct me as I'm waiting my camera and would love to understand this properly. Thanks again Rob.
Regarding the magenta colorshift in the manual ND image: The live nd should give better dynamic range according to PhotonsToPhotons, thereore shadow recovery might be better with live nd than with a glass nd

There is something really wrong with the audio recorded in the studio. It has a high pitch vibrating tone alongside the voice. Maybe there is something there that emits that or the microphone is flawed. It is on other videos too
Hopefully is not on my more recent videos. I thought I fixed this problem. Unfortunately, the tone is above my hearing frequency range, so I don't hear it when editing or playback.
Hi Rob, Thanks for your review but... there are unfortunately too many limitations with the Live ND modes and you cannot go beyond 60 sec nor use LiveTime or Bulb mode... And as a long exposure photographer, i'm so disappointed about that
Great video. Have you or anyone else experienced and issue with the back dial wheel when scrolling through pictures I randomly see the camera exit out of the pics and return to live screen. I am making sure my finger is not on the shutter button while looking at the pics. Also, it appears if I push in or down on the thumbwheel it will do the same every so often. Perhaps an intermittent contact that is causing it to exit out?
I had the olympus OMD M1 mark III, was happy with that one. Exept for video work. NO HDR, Dolby VISION, HLG, or whatever. NO 10 bit, no 422. Nothing. Then the OM1 came out and yes that one had HLG, 10 bit in 422. So i sold my Olympus, that costed e an arm and both legs. Some shops didnt even want to trade it in, only 6 months old. But ok now i had my OM1. ONLY to find out a lot of bugs. When i did a videoshoot with 239 scene's, i found out that in every scene the last frame of the scene was shown as a freeze frame. Wich gave over the whole project 'jumpers' because of the last frame. Went back to the shop and they didnt know. They advised me to write to the importer and report the bug. Only to find out that in the Netherlands there is NO importer anymore! As a matter of fact, for WHOLE EUROPE there is only one importer left, in Germany. So i wrote them my problem. After 4 weeks i still had no answer so i wrote again. And yes after waiting for totally 9 weeks i finaly got an answer from them. A really 'shock answer" very short, but very clear!! " Turn of 10 bit, do not use HLG" and that was it!! So i took a great loss on my "old" olympus, bought a OM system camera because it had 10 bit HLG and now im not alowed to USE it? So i wrote them back with this answer, and guess what.....after 4 months im still waiting for their reply!!!
Sorry for the delay. For some reason your comment was side-carded by youtube so I had to approve it. That is a terrible experience! I've not noticed the problem you describe until now. This is mainly because I leave several seconds before and after a scene. But I can see where if you're not cutting scenes, a frozen frame(s) would be an issue. It seems to happen when you push the record button to stop recording, it holds the last frame for a split second - about 15 out of 60fps frames are repeated and 8 out of a 30fps. I tried turning off 10bit which deactivates hlg and the problem is still there. I thought it might be the digital IS in M-IS1, but even with IS off, it still does it. In fact, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm in FHD, Natural Color Profile, HLD, OMLog, etc... It happens to all video. I'm on the latest firmware 1.4. I checked a few clips from my Panasonic S5, and they are fine. I checked some clips from my EM1.3, and they are fine! I will have to make a video about this issue so it's out there. I know OM System watches my channel. I hate to put out negative things, even as minor (at least for me) as this. Obviously the solution is in post processing and/or recording externally. But this is really just a bandaid. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
@@RobTrek Hello Rob. Thank you SO much for giving this attention! Uptill now the importer in Europe dont seem to even care! They wont even answer emails anymore and let the customer (me) hang. They dont even seem to know (or care) about this problem, let alone fix it. I spend a lot of money to get a camera with 10 bit HLG but i might aswell have kept my 'old' Olympus without this problem.

@@RobTrek Thank you so much for helping me. Wouldnt know where else to go. Went back to the shop where i bought the camera. They kept it there for 4 days for testing. Had the same problem so they wrote to the importer too. And got the same answer......"dont use HLG or 10 bit"....
i have a question, can you use live comp and live nd filters together? what i would like to do with my om-5 is apply an nd 8 filter whilst composing a long exposure live comp image 🤷🏻♂️
thanks Rob for the quick answer & confirming I hadn't overlooked something..I now plead my case for OM-SYS to add this feature so we don't have to carry filters with our kit 😎
Hey Rob another great video! I sold my Olympus M2 for the OM1 specifically for the Live ND feature. Could you possibly make a video just on this feature. I noticed that you can only use the Live ND while in Manual mode is this correct?
Thanks. You can also use Live ND in Shutter Priority mode. I'm going back to those waterfalls on Thursday with the photoclub. I'll see if I can squeeze in a video. No promises.
Hi Rib, a tid bit: E-M1X ref. manual p. 633 says to hold camera upright when turned on, due to dust reduction function. Same with OM-1, page 305. If so important, why wait for page 633 or 305 to say so?!?
How long does it take to clear the buffer filled with photos onto the fastest SDXC UHS-II? As I understand I have 90 photo buffer which gives me 0.75s of 120fps producing 3.75s clip. But what is wait period befor next burst in that scenario? And If I shoot jpegs only?
I'm doing a video on this topic. I haven't tried jpg only, but jpg+raw. For that, if I hold the shutter for 10 seconds, I get 118 images, and it takes 32 seconds to clear. That is an initial test. I will have to do more, so take this number with a grain of salt. This was using a ProGrade 128gb UHS-II 300/250mbps card.
Thanks Rob, I also noticed the Magenta Look of my OMD Raw Files in Lightroom and I don’t like it, is there a good way to correct it to the EM1MK3 Look?
