We check out New York City's famous Central Park to test out the new flagship model from Olympus. We explore the camera's autofocus, 5-axis image stabilization, and video performance along with a deeper analysis on this camera for video.
Shot on a a Panasonic GH4 with Olympus 12-40 2.8 and Canon 5DMIII with Sigma 28-70 2.8.

TheCameraProject yes it is hard but just great. Congrats and enjoy the first years. It is wonderful. Maybe you can once make a video telling about your experience filming and photographing children. I have a 1 year old and 4 year old and know exactly how hard it is. All the best!

Thank you for this review. I was seriously considering this camera as my "backpacking" camera for travel and such. The review helped me understand where this camera fits and it may not be my best choice as I want to do landscape and wildlife.

Thank you for the review which I found really enjoyable. Although I admit to not really needing all the bells and whistles that the camera provides, as I in my seventies , have slight arthritis in my hands and also a noticeable tremor , the enhanced grip and amazing stabilisation justified their value to me. The additional concurrent stabilisation with the 12-100mm lens is an incredible bonus.

I don‘t really understand why people talk about video capabilities so much. It‘s a photo camera! If you want everything for video, get yourselves a video camera.

Everyone buys a camera for different reasons. Some for only photo, but others who do both. The biggest competition for Olympus is Panasonic, who is very strong in both regards, so it makes sense, especially when Olympus is touting the video features on this camera to be critical about the video capabilities, especially when they are things that can be fixed via firmware upgrades.

That was good, thanks. Perhaps your personal camera choices helped spotting all the fine details, which made it more interesting. Any idea what you'll do next? (Oh and it's always fun watching Alison's expression when she isn't the one talking... sorry Josh but I am listening...)

I hear you. I also have the EM5 mark 2 and this is an amazing camera, but I can't justify the price myself - not based on what I would need it for.

I agree about the value of the minimum shutter speed feature. Why can't I just permanently assign that to a dial when in aperture priority?

Great reviews! For all around camera, photo (70%) and video (30%) it is the best mirroless? (5-axis, 4k, greats lens, battery, ergonomie, etc). thks

Vitor Teixeira best mirrorless would be tough to say. I’d say for best micro four thirds it’s between this and the gh5. There are aspects I like better on each

Per DxO this is actually a pretty significant upgrade in ISO, DR, and color depth. Did you guys not see that improvement?

balboa0621 neither of us shoot w the original em1 but compared to the em5ii it’s better. I wouldn’t say ground breaking though

how is image quality compared to the mark 1, is it worth an upgrade on that alone

So it's 20MP vs 16, and a newer sensor. I think there are plenty of things that make this camera better, the 5-axis image stabilization is better, the auto focus is FAR better. As for image quality, it is better, but I don't know if it's worth the purchase for that alone. I'd say maybe 1 stop better low light if that. You can see a gallery of the EM5-II and the EM-1II. mabye check DP review image quality page, they have a test picture and you can drop in different cameras, you have to strain your eyes to see any difference, admittedly a test page and maybe not so applicable for real world. I can get some great images out of the EM5mk2, if you are really wanting a significant improvement in image quality you will need to change to Sony A series.

The buffer isn't filling, it's emptying. The buffer fills as you shoot many frames per second. It empties into the memory card.

Yep, the E-M1 Mark II is $900- $1000 more than the E-M5 Mark II, but you guys didn't address the improved 20MP sensor in the E-M1 Mark II which the E-M5 does not have. Also, you didn't cover using flash at all with this camera (FL-900R flash).

Yes, we didn't talk much about the sensor because while the extra resolution is certainly appreciated, and there is a bit more dynamic range, we don't find the difference between the sensors will blow most people away. I guess we didn't touch on it much because there have already been a few other 20MP sensors over the last few years, from the GX8 onward. As for the FL-900R, you could use that with the EM5-II as well unless I'm missing something. All this said, the EM1II is a great camera, but depending on your uses cases won't be for everyone.

So now that it is around 700 to 800$ is it worth it now....??? It seemed to be a money issue about this camera...I would rather speed what ever amount to get what I want...but then again..is there any camera that has all you want...I think not.

TheCameraProject I didn’t say to go through or past the fence. Simple walk up to it and shoot the lens through an opening in the fence links to effectively make it invisible. 😉

I wish we could have. The team dugout was there, and the lens has a pretty big diameter, wouldn't have shot through the fence.

Best way to see if the reviews are paid by the sponsor, and not done for real. No new reviews after firmware updates that heavily improve the gear.

Subscribed so you won't die.... but I can unsubscribe if you don't keep on adding new videos. ;-) And Olympus and Panasonic have new lenses you can shoot a 2-4 minute video on, and let us know how you like, or don't. One a week, and we are good. And you won't die. :-)
