Thanks for producing this video because there is a real lack of info available on youtube on basic video functions on the OM-1. I know because I tried to find it myself. I am totally deficient in knowledge of the basics of video so the info about setting shutter speed was helpful since it’s not covered in the manual. Thanks for your effort!
It really is a solid video camera. The 10 bit footage is beautiful on my OM1. The autofocus needs a little work, but with most lenses it’s solid. Just wish they let us shoot in h.265 10bit in the standard profiles as well
That’s my #1 request, and second would be custom modes being open to video configurations. 10-bit in camera profile should be doable pretty easily I would imagine. Maybe if enough people request it, they’ll add it via update at some point.
thanks a lot for this video. I just considered to switch for video making to a Sony, but I don`t really want to change my system :-) keep on going. best wishes, Roberto
I used my em 1X for video; fantastic. I have lightroom and made a “slideshow”-basically exported it to an mp4 file. In one of your posts you said it seamlessly links video together and to a degree it has. One problem only was that the end of one video and the beginning of the next included a wedding kiss but in the stitching it was removed; completely stumped on how to fix it. Any chance of you doing a post on Olympus video post processing?
The 4K60 is quite a bit softer than 4k24 in H265. The 4K in H264 are soft as well. Unless you shoot H265 4K24 or 4k30 in 10bit, the 4K is quite lackluster. All the 1080 modes I've tested were subpar as well. Noisy and lack details.
Good to see someone who hasn’t bought this camera just to photograph birds! Can you tell me whether it overheats shooting long 4K/60 or 1080/240 videos?
I always forget that MS1 has a slight crop. Ill have to remember that next time a need a little wider field of view. I also love that red Fram. Cannot tell you how many times I have done the same thing. Recorded a really good take and then find out it never recorded.
New to the video modes, but I noticed a couple of things: 1. Only ESP metering in video, no spot. How to get a good exposure reading from a grey card? 2. The zebra only go down to 80 so that doesn't work either. Given the exposure requirements for log etc it seems odd. The ESP metering is not helpful there. Also it changes it you turn on BT709 viewing mode.
Peter: I've been shooting video with my OM-1 and I notice that the highest ISO allowed is 6400. Have you noticed that ISO limit when you shoot video? I would very much like to be able to shoot at an even higher ISO (especially 12800) when needed.
Thanks for the great Video! So really helpful! I have big issues with sound-noise while recording videos, even with an external mic mounted. I only use Panasonic lenses. You also know this problem?
thanks. can you please make video for dummies about how to color grade the flat profile in premier element or dicinvy (the free one 😂). and where we can find lut's and how to use them 😊 please ❤
Hi Peter: trying to get better with video using the om1. question I shoot video in manual mode as you suggest. But when I press record, on the lower bottom left of evf it goes into P mode with other settings. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance. Joe.
Have you set the Mode Dial to video? You also need to set the default exposure mode in video to Manual. It can be done in the Video menu first page > 🎥Mode
Hello Peter, do you have any recommendations for us that want to use our cameras for social media. Would we need to change any of the aspect ratio or would just filming vertical cover the 9:16 required ratio for instagram stories? I know I can just use my phone but the 12-100 has phenomenal IS and 8-25 lens also comes in handy.
Is it just my copy, or is the camera's built-in speaker so distorted that it's worthless? Audio seems fine when listening through headphones but otherwise its crackly and overmodulated even when it's on 1
Peter, which FeelGood monitor are you using? They have many sizes and variations...I have been wanting to add one to my OM-1 kit. You are spot-on about the new video features being welcome, and I'm finding the OM-1 video to be quite an excellent advancement from my EM1ii and iii. I agree with your "wish list" as well, always some room for improvement! I shoot stills and video - a hobby gone mad, and sometimes I enhance my engineering design work with photos and videos to aid in development, marketing, and for manuals/ guides.
I ran into a problem when shooting in a logarithmic profile, in 4K 30 and 60 frames per second: Periodically, in some frames, on some small dynamic objects (people), the skin color completely disappears - turning into gray! It looks unpleasant, a person gets a gray spot on his hand or face for a short moment (How can this be fixed? Can the manufacturer fix this in the firmware, or introduce new adjustments to the level of color saturation in the video color profiles? There is no such problem in the usual narrow profile on h264 8 bits, but the dynamic range is a little narrower, I would like there to be no problem in 10bit h265. I really like the camera - but this bug has really limited me in shooting (
Thank you, I would appreciate it if you help fix this bug! This is the direction in which it would be useful to improve this good camera. I recently switched to this camera in commercial video shooting, I parted with another good full-frame camera. OM-1 won me over)... But I think this is a serviceable HLG and logarithmic profile is very important to use this camera in video shooting and 100%! I repeat, in the usual narrow profile on 8 bits h264, there is no such problem (the disappearance of some small color zones with an area of about 15x15 dots). I have also conducted test shots and I see that the dynamic range is still pretty good and without a logarithmic profile in 8 bits h264, I manually reduce the contrast and add color saturation in the camera settings and in this case I observe a fairly high dynamic range in the video. There are no dropouts in 8 bits of h264 in dynamic objects! But the sad thing is that there are bugs in the 10-bit h265(
That is FeelWorld LUT6 and it has the mounting bracket included. Vide about the monitor: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mz0G8v2JI3I.html
