Great video...Thank You...will be using my phone for future updates. After waiting months for my OM-1, it arrived. I used it for two photo shoots and it DIED. Literally will not power up. I have sent it to OM systems for repair. It was amazing while it lasted. I was shooting action shots. My Granddaughter's Barrel Race. For those of you not familiar with that, it is her riding a horse around a pattern of three barrels in a timed event. The camera performed flawlessly. I can't wait for it to come back all repaired.
Same here , my OM-1 died I understand it’s at the repair centre now, hopefully should be back in a few weeks, sent it off 21 April got to repair centre 13 May in Portugal. Can’t wait to get it back. I hope you get yours back soon.
@@braddersclash very sorry to hear this on this new camera. There is many issues reported in dpreview. I shoot with 2nd hand older Olympus gear and never heard any of issues before. Never buy a new camera is one of the rules tho (:
Great video Peter. It amazes me how many people do not updater their camera. I think every used camera I have ever purchased in the USA was still at FM 1.0
Thanks again Peter, without this video I would not even know that the update is easy to make with the iPhone and the Share-App. After the Update via my Apple PC did not work I tried the 1.2 Update for my new OM-1 via this way and it worked perfect. You made my day, Peter!
Rolling out a firmware update, new cameras that quit working and the delivery issues really convinces me that there were some problems prior to/at launch. This is why I never buy new technology. Get the bugs out, then you might get money. I bought my EM1.2 about three years after it launched. It was a great camera. Then, Olympus did a major firmware update that make it exponentially better. Good advice Peter about always using the latest firmware, even if it doesn't seem to be an immediate benefit.
Really useful video as always. I have to say the OM Systems OM Workspace is the worst way I know to update firmware. The software doesn't run on Apple M1 chip and the mobile phone app will not work either. A simple download to SD card would be much more sensible.
0:16 Not always. I disagree. I remember a firmware upgrade to the Pen F (Pen F firmware update 2.0) which introduced camera overheating and firmware crashes. Now, I read the change notes, I decide if I need to upgrade immediately (e.g. benefit of the upgrade versus the risk of the upgrade) - other than that I wait for a while to see if others run into issues with a firmware version before I upgrade.
Image app still not working. I think OM-systems is waiting untill every OM-1 owner has bought the optional USB cable. Why not giving he possibility to simply udate with an SD-card?
When I get my OM-1 which was pre ordered at the beginning of March I will check the firmware installed. Probably be 2.4 by the time the camera arrives 🤣🤣
Hi Peter I have just carried out the firmware update on my OM1 but after the download my camera completely shutdown nothing is working I’ve switched it on and off then removed the battery tried again but nothing is working it won’t even charge. Can you suggest what I can do to fix this problem. Thanks Gerry
I cannot update using iMac. And it says to use these functions, you need to display the security & privacy settings in the system environment settings and allow loading from OM Digital Solutions corporation” which is blocked. However I have unlocked and tried many times, it is not working. What should I do ? Appreciate your advice and many thanks in advance
Hi just got my OM-1 updated all the Workspace can connect my Em Mk2 no problem but with the OM-1 I get OM Services are blocked go to settings and allow OM systems . this is on a Mac and in Security and Privacy I can see no where to allow it.
When I try to update the camera I get a warning the functions are limited and I need to "display the Security and Privacy settings in the system environment settings and allow loading from "OM Digital Solutions Corporration which is blocked. I have no idea where to find these settings. Are they in OM Workspace, the camera or the operating system of the compute (Mac).
You need to go to settings on the Mac. You did not say which Mac you have. Open privacy settings. Unlock the padlock at the bottom of the window. Select general. Find the two blue folders in the left hand pane. Open the folders one at a time. Find any reference to the OM software and click the tick box. Lock the padlock and exit. I have been trying this all day without any success. It’s a newish mi Mac mini fully updated. I get the same error message that you had. A friend of mine had the same Mac, and his worked !! I would give up and wait for a fix, I also reinstalled the software. As you know the phone app reports that you are up to date. I also tried it on my pc, which is a home built one. I got it to work, but the same message as on the phone. It’s up to date ,even though it’s not. Olympus software appears to be not the best. On my Panasonic cameras you just download the update onto a sd card, insert in the camera and follow the onscreen instructions. Nice and easy. I have no idea why it works for some users and not for others. Good luck.
Got the same error message on my Mac. Tried my Lenovo laptop, but the update failed 😕 So I'm in the same boat as you Don at the moment. Hoping someone can figure the Mac issue out!
@@FrankLangford Thanks. I gave up on trying to get it to work on Mac both Mac-mini and Mac Studio. I have a couple of PC's and remembered that one has usb-c port on back. I didn't try the firmware yet but it did connect to the camera and could save settings so I am guessing it can handle the firmware. I have a Surface laptop that I just tested and it communicates fine also. So for firmware I will stick to PC's For post processing I can use the Mac's. I don't tether from the Mac anyway.
I just now downloaded OM Systems Workspace to my iMac. After an hour of having to enter my password at least 10 different times, I think it might have downloaded the program successfully. But so far I can't import images. It doesn't recognize my camera, and it continually crashes. Very bad experience, and very clumsy process. Not happy so far. I hope I can figure out a way to delete the entire program. OM Workspace needs to fix this product. Apple Macs are supposed to be easy to use.
just to let people know that the upgrade will not upload unless your battery is fully charger (or almost). You won't get the hand icon or the OK icon,,,,!!
Hello Peter. Thanks for this video instruction. I tried to connect my Android Ol.Share app to my new OM-1 but it asked me for a WIFI Password. Do you know what this is? Perhaps do an update instructional video for us? Cheers. By the way, I entered my home WIFI network password (8 characters long) but it tells me that's incorrect.
Hello Peter. Great Video. I hope you have a Workaround or solution for my Problem with the OM1. I Shoot 90% Video and i love the OM1. I need for Video always ND Filters. The Face detection with ND Filters is not good. Another Problem is if i switch to Photo Mode and use Bird detection with ND Filter on the Lens the Bird detection is not working. Most of the Time i have not enough Time to screw off the ND Filters. For example. I am filming and i See a bird that i want to Photograph. I hope you know what i mean. Sorry for my bad englisch. Regards
The problem is most likely because of not enough light. ND cuts light and the Face Priority needs light. I have not had big issues, but a few times in very bright light were I have used ND64 it has had some troubles with the Face priority. Not much that can be done. I use MF like I do in most of my videos anyways.
Delighted to receive my OM 1 at last. Used your guidance to help set up (many thanks) then set about updating the Firmware. Same as you App says it is up to date but only V1.0 . Downloaded OM Capture and Workspace. Paired camera in Capture then tried “Update” in Workspace. Every time it starts to connect to Camera then presents an error message “Unable to detect the Camera please start again from the beginning” - so I do and get the same message each time. Any idea what is going wrong here?
@@ForsgardPeter is there a correct sequence perhaps? Say, connect camera in Storage mode using Capture first then open Workspace then try Update? I tried so many times I forget now if that was the sequence I followed but think it was.
I tried to update my EM1X firmware for bird tracking before and unfortunately I destroyed my camera’s motherboard. I was given an option to trade in the damaged camera for a EM1MKIII plus a little cash and I did. Currently I am very afraid to upgrade any camera firmware. Just sharing.
Usually, when someone 'bricks' their Olympus camera doing a firmware update, it is caused by being impatient (I'm not suggesting your were). It can seem like forever watching the spinning wheel until the 'OK' displays on the screen. I think some people just think the process is hung up and turn off, or disconnect the camera before the update is completed -- and then it's 'crying time'.
@@trevorpayne2749 this is my problem, too. Have tried multiple cords, even connected the EM-1.2 (recognized just fine). Workspace refuses to detect the OM-1, though it will read files off the SD Card just fine.
@@trevorpayne2749 just realized, the OM-1 appears to require OM Workspace, not the previous Olympus Workspace. However, OM Workspace appears to require Win 10 or 11 for PC users, whereas mine is Win 8.1. Uggh
Nice to see an update. I do think Olympus are not the best with big improvements in firmware updates. Other than a few minor tweaks we never seem to get much more than what was on the camera when released.
@@steventhomas231 Well they had some for the E-M1x to, but they could have done more for that camera. It will be interesting to see what OMDS will do in the future.
I tried to update it last night through the app from OI share and it still shows firmware 1.0 so I tried it through my MacBook Pro which turned out to be problematic. Luckily, I still have a old Lenovo thinkpad around and tried and failed three times. The om workspace just crashed at the last min. A quick search on Google, some people mentioned that you need to pull out all the sd cards for it to work and I did that. It worked at last but the update at the moment is so problematic that I was so nervous that it would brick my camera. Hopefully, omds will fix it soon.
