@@slice-o-life Now that is funny. As someone said the zookeeper is behind the protective glass lol. What would a zookeeper do with two 400 pound silverback, lmao
What a silly woman..."Where's the zookeeper! They could spray 'em or something". Just let them alone to live their lives and solve their own issues. Bad enough, they're caged so you can stare at them.... they also have to conform to your expectations? Stupid people!
Always wondered why it takes putting wild animals in a confined space or cage just for entertainment.... Of all the fucking technology and shit we have people still need to be entertained by this stupid shit?
NYmech I hate it. Imagine being in a cage with groups of people watching you through plexiglass. It would be hell. I imagine it’s worse for whales in those small pools. In China they are building Seaworld like parks like crazy.
Gorillas are an endangered species and these are the places they can avoid extinction. You are a bunch of ignorants that dismiss the job of professional people while you write BS on a smartphone.
I volunteer at this zoo frequently. It is one of the top rated zoos in the world. Everyone saying that this is awful and that we need to abolish zoos don't know what they're talking about. This particular zoo (Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo) is involved in countless conservation projects. Also, neither of the gorillas got severely injured and this is not an everyday event. It is perfectly fine for these two gorillas to live together.
@@flandrescarlet506 It sounds like I'm asking why you live with your adolescent or young adult son or daughter. It can't work differently with Gorillas either, there is a conflict, there is a dispute between father and son, and when the time comes, the son or daughter leaves their family, looks for a partner, builds their life together, founds a family, and raises their cubs and offspring . Their descendants will do the same.
Really, I was trying to figure out what he was doing? A lot of people said he was asking to get out but I thought he could ask anyone by the glass for that. But I have to admit I don't know to much about Apes. So that's why I'm asking you this question (just trying to learn something new) is he really sizing him up, cause his actions didn't seem aggressive?
Kaya Spencer de Martinez idiot in grey raised his fists in response the first time the gorilla did it. Nobody else did. It’s challenging body language. The gorilla kept coming back because he kept seeing raised fists. If the glass wasn’t there this would have been a challenge to fight.
Violet Edward he was challenging him thats why he kept doing it again and again, he looks away to “pretend” hes not gonna attack and them boom when he goes at him theres a glass wall, if it wasnt there hed be getting his chest pounded
this area is only a small portion of their enclosure. If they weren't interested in seeing the 'hoomans' or being seen by them, there are other places they can go to get away. Todays zoos build enclosures first for the needs of the animals but they do have to have an area where the visitors can see the animals...or who would come ? Zoos are important places where we can learn a lot about the animals, breed them so that we always have them ...so that if the wild population is decimated for whatever reason...we have the ability to fix the problem and bring them back. For example....they have done that with a species of tree frog that was decimated after a dam was built in order to help the human population in the area. The authorities, after realizing what had happened..... made adjustments to an area to create a proper environment for the frogs.....and because there was a zoo in the united states that had some of these frogs...they upped their breeding program and were able to reintroduce them. This is a very abbreviated part of the story, but a real success story and small example of why zoos are important. How can anyone care very much about something they know nothing about or have no experience with ? Zoos introduce people to animals they would never see or learn about otherwise and creates an interest and a reason to "care" ! They are a far cry from the depressing places of iron bars and cement floors of a century ago.
God that woman is so annoying 🤦🏿♂️ why would you wanna break it up or spray them they're displaying their natural behaviours. If a zookeeper went in there they'd rip him in half like paper
Absolutely and the silver back doesn't like to be looked at as this is a challenge to him. They are beautiful incredible beasts and shame on people for caging any animal for the soul purpose of being stared at all day and goodness knows how many people knock on the glass, driving the very intelligent animal to a miserable existence. I really shouldn't watch these as I don't enjoy the animal all I notice is it's misery
@@CryMeARiver63 id rather die free than stuck in a cage, put yourself in there and then after years tell me how you feel. these animals are intelligent and are capable of self recognition. a sanctuary by all means evelyn for safety . zoos no.
@Henry Fidel ... and they are happy there! I mean, better a life behind bars then getting killed by gangmembers or maybe catch aids. Thanks to us, they can survive!
Pfff, you think this is due to frustration caused by being trapped? You do know that adult male Gorillas do this all the time to show dominance, right?
And from my little knowledge about Gorillas, I thought the Zoo's did not put two Silver Backs together on the same enclosure. I believed there was always one Silver Back and his lady mates and his babies.☹😲
That gentle push on the glass just looked like him saying "let me out please". Apes shouldn't keep other apes in cages. Also some of the comments down here get pretty strange. Lol. Alot self-righteous asses, and random sexist remarks. Reminds me that we're not all that evolved.
Really, have you ever watched some people sometimes? Really can't see the difference while tending bar, going to a sports game, shopping at a mall on a sale day. . . .
@@Wayniesgirl "Humans (Homo sapiens) are the only extant members of the subtribe Hominina. Together with chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans, they are part of the family Hominidae (the great apes, or hominids). A terrestrial animal, humans are characterized by their erect posture and bipedal locomotion; high manual dexterity and heavy tool use compared to other animals; open-ended and complex language use compared to other animal communications; larger, more complex brains than other animals; and highly advanced and organized societies"
It's very likely the gorilla believed he recognized the man he kept interacting with for close to an hour. The man appeared to be someone the gorilla had fond memories of.
I was at London zoo last year and an american couple actually demanded that they get a zookeeper to wake some of the animals up so they could see them. "We paid good money to see some god damn animals, and most of them are asleep!"
And we Americans complain when our customers demand something with same line of logic and post angry comments on social media about it. We are extremely hypocritical and we don't even know it.
He didn't the guy in the grey shirt put his fists on the glass, in gorilla "language" that is seen as a threat / provocation. That's why the gorilla did the same because he thought this guy wanted to fight.
It's so sad, he is clawing at the glass because he wants out. You aren't supposed to put two Alpha male silverbacks in the same enclosure, they will constantly be fighting over the same territory and pack.
When I went to this zoo when I was like 7. I'll never forget these gorillas were literally showing off to me and my family. Not kidding I would flex my arm and so would the gorilla. And we would pose through the glass as sumo wrestlers and they would literally mimic everything. I believe you've gotta sort of convince yourself that you can connect and eventually it will work.
The guy in the grey shirt was putting his fists on the glass, in gorilla "language" that is seen as a threat. That is why the gorilla did the same because he thought this dude wanted to fight.
they cant live in the wild because of human activity gorillas are endangered animals and zoos run conservation programs to save them use google and quit making these comments in every zoo video
@@antipetaassociation4279 Zoos make money bottom line, they dont grab animals out the wild to be rescued they exploit them and tell the visitors after they pay a fee they are doing a good thing zoos are on their way out
He wasn't trying to communicate, that man put his fists on the glass, in gorilla "language" that is seen as a threat. That is why the gorilla did the same because he thought the dude wanted to fight.
@@iglo-5851 why would he want want out? It doesn't know anything different from the zoo but is not like it is getting tormented just people looking at it.
To be killed by illegal hunters? Again? Did you watch the news or something? Yes @Sarah you're sad for no reason. They brought there to be protected, why are you sad? 😂
Yep all animals do look at us humans we do it everyday the dumber the person the more fighting they do and a gorilla is just like a bumb human in a way a little less evolved one anyway guess you could argue there smarter than some or even most humans lol
It just break my heart 😢 what we do to this magnificent primates our cousins. They should be in the wild where they can roam freely. This heart breaking to watch.😢😢
Niah 2001 Yeah, cousins. We are closely related to them whether you like it or not. We don't resemble a dog nor have mannerisms like one, because we are not related to them like we are closely genetically related to Gorillas, Bonobos, Chimps and etc. It's hard to believe that when led by a religious book. But when looking at concrete facts....it's undeniable.
mann Really? Lets see how humane you really think it is to keep animals and primates locked up like this for no reason and put you in a small confined space. See how sane and happy you are in a year.
The zookeepers were the ones who thought it was a good idea to put these two dominant silverbacks in the same tiny enclosure. It's a shame that people give pay money to these places.
Maybe the man favored one of the gorilla's keepers when he was younger or maybe he was hand raised by someone that favored him.. you never know. Amazing behavior either way.
No, the gorilla put his fists on the glass because he thought this dude wanted to fight. Because he kept making eye contact with the gorilla which in gorilla "language" is seen as a provocation.
Ok just to clear some things up for you “animal activists” those gorillas are born in captivity so they would never learn the skills of a wild gorilla so they wouldn’t survive 1.They wouldn’t know what a predator is and what not because they never came across to one 2.They wouldn’t have the social skills like the wild ones 3.They wouldn’t know what they should eat or what not to eat 4.They would be probably killed by poachers 5.Zoo’s are there to help the population of the species not to hold them in a cage like a prison most zoo’s with endangered species like the mountain gorilla often have breeding programs where they send them to gorilla schools in Africa don’t believe me google it lmao the same thing with orang utans they get rehabilitation but they only take baby gorillas so they can adapt better so zoo’s are helping endangered species and not let them rot there like some people think so get you’re facts straight before talking nonsense
I agree completely with you,People have no Idea how awful the situation is for all species in their natural habitat, mainly due to uneducated people in these areas who destroy their rain forests and kill for sport, HUMANS are the ones who are the plague. I wish we could educate this world and teach children of every nation EMPATHY.
The fight is really natural, the 2 males are just fighting over rank. One of the 2 is probablythe alpha male and the other of the 2 is probably number 2 in rank. And the when the gorilla stood up to the glass he was most likely trying to impress, how he did it was a bit strange but you could see by the way he had his lips curld towards the inside of his mouth that he was trying to impress.
"where's the 'Zoookeeper'? class act. .. and btw, the silverbacks weren't mocking you, or playing around. U would not be alive if if you even knew .... js
I know they're endangered and probably part of a breeding programme but it is so sad to see wild animals living in captivity. Human beings have a lot for which to answer.
And that guy thinking he’s special... oh gosh... dude you aren’t a gorilla whisperer... I swear some ppl are just knuckleheads... but thx for the laughs
great job Bryan my family and I go to the Omaha zoo a lot I get tired of people and there children hitting the glass it bothers them so much I wish people could understand this glass cracks when they become agitated by banging on the glass then they will bang on it to show they too can be dominate
