After losing her parents while in polytechnic, Damilola Falodun sought greener pastures abroad. The plan was to travel to Canada but she somehow found herself in Oman. Now, she returns to narrate an experience she says was "hell".
Why are Africans still selling their people into slavery. As a Black Jamaican, I am very hurt and disappointed that this brutality that was inflicted on my ancestor 400 years ago continues today. Stop
You have much crude oil than oman so why your people go there. Even myself come to nigeria for that way I may become enslaved this is every where even here in England. In Nigeria many homes have house maid girls and do they treaded well oh no. This is human to human error. But steal there people out there are doing well.
This girl is suffering from trauma....if you look into her eyes and study her body language you will see it. My prayer is that God will heal her and make her whole. I pray that God will bless her in her homeland.
Segun, are you a therapist or psychologist? If you are, you will be able to identify the very clear signs of trauma. It is not something our people understand and we are often ignorant or in denial of trauma and mental health issues. The fact that someone goes on with their life after a traumatic experience does not mean they have recovered. It is her resilience that is keeping her going. She will require counselling and support to overcome this. And the grace of God. I am trained in this field and I can see the signs.
BrownGirl Africa thank you. Most of the time we as Africans do not understand or even acknowledge mental health issues. It's disheartening how ignorant and insensitive we can be. But someday all that will change. 🙏🏽
I agree, she is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and it will take a long time for her to recover from her horrific ordeal without going through counselling or therapy, wish her the best. Our young people need to be educated about how unsafe certain parts of the world are for black people, even here in the western world there are places i do not travel to because i know that my anything could happen to me and no-one will give a damn.
A young lady called me and asked, how do I get to the USA? I replied, go to their embassy, website or call the embassy and follow the steps. She said nooo I want to go and hustle. I asked her how much, How much money do you have for the trip? She said 1 million Naira for everything. I told her all the pros and cons and adviced her to start a business with it here in Nigeria. She told me that I don't want her to travel, that since I always travel, that I do not wish her well, that she will get there one way or the other. I wished her Good luck. People will keep going no matter how many times they are warned.
African Expat I do live in Nigeria and I have lived in the USA, RUSSIA, ENGLAND and I have visited a lot of countries for 1 month each. The issue is not the travelling out, it's about sustainability. 1 million won't do nothing for you in Any European country Or USA. Visa fee. Flight ticket Accommodation Feeding And possibly, Healthcare. She has no family or friends in the USA. And she wants to hustle?????? What kind of job will she do on a visitors visa.? That's even against the law to work with a visitors visa. Prostitution will pay better and in a very short term, but naaa that's one Hell of a difficult Job In my opinion. Desperation leads people to do all sort of things. I am in Nigeria now without a job, I just have food and shelter (family home). Everyone is looking at me and saying all your abroad nothing come out,but they don't know whatsup. I am still not that desperate to go back. Travel if you have money and please go legally and not true agents. Most people that go through agents wants a semi legal entry, cuz they don't have the 💰 Eg. If you have 40million why would you get admission through an agent? Call the University and they will be glad to help you. Remember they need your money.
African Expat I live in Naija o, I just entered Keke yesterday and fighting for my 50 NGN LOL, I KNOW the hustle and stress. My friend is doing okay here in Naija. She has been denied visa 6 times straight, and the last time the interviewinh officer told her that she was desperate. But she keeps saying I don't wish her well. Lollll someone that has a job and I don't have ooo.
Stop traveling abroad with an agent. Travel with scholarships, family of friends invitations, Social Clubs and fellowships please always tell someone you're where about and make sure you have a plan B.
gerald culbertson This is not a blaming situation, this is more of an awareness to those who are trying to leave Nigeria through an agent. I salute this lady with a lot of kudos. But let get one thing straight, we all know that Nigeria is a bad place to live no doubt about that and all this agents are not working for the government they are human being like you and I treating and putting fellow human being in horrific condition all because of money. Please put it out there, don't travel with an agent.
Promise Tochukwu Certain people who control currency values are creating desperate situations for searching people in many specific countries to do things they normally wouldn't do some more than others more than ever. And those people they go after the natural resources. Actually initially Africans did not sell each other into slavery to Arabs and europeans to be taken off the continent etc. Later brainwashed Africans helped catch other Africans into slavery. Arabs and europeans gave/give gifts as controlled opposition fake nice tactics to get on the good side to let their guard down of the people they were going to eventually attempt to conquer. Africans hired Europeans to transport Africans to other parts of Africa (to other queendoms kingdoms etc) In initial African societies sex was within wedlock to procreate children. Many people do daily tasks to help build communities like cooking cleaning Etc as slavery. Servitude is not totally dominating if you could people stripping the way their culture and making them worship the captors as gods as slavery does and loose sex outside wedlock. People can agree to disagree or not. Respect💯
Promise Tochukwu Certain things cannot be restored if something is tainted in a certain way. Many the young African women should have married quality well established African men in their country procreating children within wedlock. That could have prevented a lot of those situations like what happened to the young lady in the video. Many more young ladies fire themselves and sabotage protection. Compassion and constructive criticism is needed. No gender is excused from constructive criticism💯

Africa must develop our countries to stop this kind of offering ourselves to other people to be exploited. African leaders must work for their people and use our wealth to develop Africa for Africa children.
I agreed with u that African leaders must develop their countries but do u think that will stop the greediness in our land ( Nigeria), and other African countries? In my own opinion, No! But we have to change our thinking and MENTALITY.
All what you said is true, what we are facing in dis Saudi Arabia isn't small things, my prayer is that God should bring all Nigeria and other countries back to our countries safely. 🙏🙏..
God bless this woman. Look into her eyes. She seems to be going through multiple post-traumatic stress disorder beginning with the loss of her parents. A film needs to be done on Damilola's story!!!
@@jaysenossai7165 She needs, help quite alright. But her story needs to be told so that others can be enlightened on the dangers of modern day slavery.
smh stop using white europeans ideaology we as africans not same as white people once we stop that and stop believing every race is our friends that is when we will raise again
Her problem is Nigeria not Oman. Nigerian sent her to Oman to work as a maid without her knowledge and Omanis offered her the job. No one wants to hire a maid against her will. You accepted a paid job then you have to work. She could of called her family at night or after work hours but not to let it interfere with her duties. She just didn't want to be a maid!
Eno Explores but sis eno do u blive dis tins are true Real true in Oman D life here is hell No rest Just an hr, but wetin.we won do ,wen our govt aint doing fine
How is their estetical appearence even relevant to this story? Or should a beautifull women automatically be treated better than an average looking one?
How touching and sad, Thank God, she came back to her home-land safe and sound as opposed to so many who cannot be traced or found! A lesson INDEED for ALL those who planning to seek for greener pastures in foreign countries. I pray for God to help her and the likes of her. I also commend the foundation for taking their help and foresight! , NIGERIA / African countries NEED MORE OF SUCH VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS to encourage and help young school leavers to stay in their respective countries and make something of their lives because just waiting for their governments alone to do this for them,, will be like pouring water into a basket! Thanks for sharing!
Bunch of lies made-up for religious purposes.. To destore Islam reputation.. Do you know that oman has so many mixed blood with African and do you know that swahili language is widely spoken language in oman.. Racism in oman against African.. No chance
@@theone-yk9bf what destruction of Islam reputation, she clearly mentioned a pastor too. The fact is people are mean, it doesn't matter whether Christian or Muslim.
@@obianujuefobi1438 I feel sorry for you. Most of you who listen to people like her immediately start to believe the lies she is saying because most of you have not traveled outside? Nor visited Oman or any other country.. Racism in Oman 🤔 and against African hahaha No way because Oman has so many African descendants and they are considered to be pure omani and Arabs... I'm not defending Oman if you have chance come and visit Oman and see it by your own eyes then you will know how peaceful are the omani people....
No matter how bad life is in your own country there will always be a way to survive because it is your own country, your own land, and your own people. They know you and will always in some way rescue you. No amount of money can replace your own people and your sense of feeling belonged.
I thought as much,i don't know if the interviewer is a real journalist or a sympathiser, otherwise he had the wrong questions and very limited in his vocabulary, which in turn is the reason why the lady hadn't expressed herself better than the way she did.
It is slavery. If you hear the word agent run as fast as you can. Hopefully Mrs. Falodun has a better life now. My greetings and best wishes from Singapore.
Throw away your idea of only man works and women are only there to pleasure you sexually. Man and women are equal don't impose your Islamic thinking pattern
Never trust those agents as well, It's really really add for Nigerian to get a job in Gulfs country. Most of this problem is caused by our peoples. Some Nigerian has committed a lots of crimes this makes this people to tag this image to all Nigerian.
I challenge every young person in Nigeria to start making Nigeria a better country so that no one will desire to leave. The politicians you currently have will not live forever. So make the plans now to replace them and move the country forward. In Canada, the average politician makes $150,000CAD a year and all the other money is reinvested in the country, we have free healthcare and free school until grade 12. And student loan programs make it possible for every student to go university and graduate even become a doctor with borrowed funds from the government. Please youth rise up and BE the change you want in the world. Please.
You should report it to the police to the embassy, to all the news agencies, and help her to get out of there.. Their own daughters are trying to escape to get asylum in other countries that will accept them. Nobody should go there, its torture. They're very cruel.
Unfortunately, this is a very big issue in the Middle east as a whole and also some other European and Asian countries, I have had a housemaid before in Oman, and I felt terrible for her and so did my parents, so we supplied her with a phone and we gave her a lot of breaks, because, in the end, she's human, we even went to court and tried to get her passport back in which we succeeded in. This is a problem worldwide and we cannot generalize and blame all Arab people, because that is unfair, The Omani Government is making enormous effort to crack down on this horrific slave trade. And this is not the only form of slave trade going around the middle east. Dubai wasn't built by Arabs it was built by poor Indians and Pakistanis trying to make a living and to support their families, they were promised a decent salary and job and home in Dubai but once they arrive in Dubai they're passport is taken they are sent to these facilities that are very similar to concentration camps, and they are put in the most horrendous conditions that violate human rights. This is all because of these companies who seek money and cheap labor.
It is true that not Arabs are the same and they way you treated your maid my be different but sadly these things happen. The Oman government appear to treat their citizens well, they need to consider the welfare of other citizens and Oman citizens needs to speak out about injustice.
It's nothing to do with Arabs, it's all about; Exploitation! Why do men hit women and children, instead of their boss? When did you last see someone from Europe or U.S. cleaning houses in the Middle East for $250 per month? People are exploited because of their weaknesses, and African governments are selling their own people into slavery, like they've always done, and people in the Middle East exploit them! It also happens in my country (UK). So it's not about Arabs!
She mentioned an agency. We need to know this agency and other ones that deceive innocent Nigerians into this type of slavery. Let others wise up and stop falling into the trap of these slave traders. I commend the courage of this young girl for speaking out. The question is, how do our government save other people still in the trap of these slave merchants throughout the Middle East
I have lived in Oman ever since I was born. Yes im half Pakistani half Omani. I feel super terrible. Slavery is becoming a huge problem here, And I feel terrible for them. Iv’e had a maid for 10 years now, but we always treated him with respect. We would give him food, often breaks, money so that he could buy himself things. If he did not want to come we would let him rest. Because during covid, he couldn’t come so we had to clean ourselves and realized how difficult it is because both my parents are sick, My brother is busy studying, my other brother does not listen and all I can do is try. May god bless her.
Please let us change our perspective in Nigeria, if you can not work to make a better life in your country where you have family and friends, why will you think you can do better in a strange land undocumented and with fake permits. I have been to Oman for a conference for 7days, and the experience was awesome. Please if you must travel, do it the proper and legal way.God bless Nigeria.
I feel so hurt for this girl. She's so strong and brave. This naija is a failed country. She was desperate. No parents. How lucky I feel! May God make her path easier. The Arab mentality is actually very poor. Even professionals who live in these lands are treated poorly. I live in Saudi Arabia so I know. Of course, by Allahs grace we plan to leave soon but for people who come in here for menial, pls seek something like a business or a trade.
@@ghatrifi0072 Oman Conquered Large Areas of the Eastern African Coast and went as far as Congo and enslaved a lots of Black Africans LOL he/she would hate Oman more if he read about it .
@@user-ui3pw1ys3k yes in the past Oman conquered the south east of Africa, they enslaved and tortured people which is far away from humanity... But the Africans returned the favor by making a rebel and killing as many white persons as they could... One of the omani surviors from that rebel is my neighbor and he told me how they did unspeakable things to kick out the Omanies.. but not all Omanies were like that but the majority... And for ur information I personally know some Omanies who literally still live in Tanzania and Zinnzibar... They are Omanies.. and what happened in the past is in the past and we should not let it disturb the present... unfortunately it is doing that and in Oman the majority of people who live by tribalism which causes them to see them selves above other tribes this is a stupid ugly way of life and those people don't deserve any respect..
Quite moving! African leaderships MUST work to create opportunities for their own citizens at home. East or west, there is no place of love and dignity like home.
God pls bless me so that i can actually help people that needs it. I feel pity for this young lady. Awareness and information about countries like oman and also knowing that seizing ones passport is a red alert at any point. She is smart too. May God help you rise in your father land
There should be an investigation, arrest and some diplomatic engagement with the government of Oman. Nigerians who legally sort work are missing in that country and are feared murdered. Serious crimes have been and are being committed. We can fault the poor girl for her naivety, but it doesn’t absolve our lack of structure to preserve and protect our own. I hope those pot bellied crooks in government are forced to act by this unfortunate yet uncommon story. Sad.
By our government? You must be joking. Most of our governments in Africa are run by people of the prehistoric culture. They are not only wicked, but are bereft of ideas on how to improve the lives of their fellow citizens.
I am black man from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 sister I feel all your pain and all other black people pain all the black nations all over the world needs to forget tribes and see our self as one and do business among ourselves because really and truly we don’t need these people
To end slavery, eliminate the “slave seller” - the so- called agents. Btw, anything that sounds too good to be true it probably was. Blame the Pastor also.

This is scary.. I feel for my African brothers and, sisters trying to survive. They’re just trying to survive... and, I’d conclude by saying ‘ SHAME ON YOU’ to our useless African leaders. I pray what happened to this women comes back and, hunt your generations. And, to this wonderful lady I say thank you for sharing with us! May God comfort you my sister.
I'm a victim in italy, I didn't research before I left. My best friend decieved me cos he's jealous I'm having money a lot in Nigeria and he deceived me to go to italy because he wants my iPhone 6 then in 2016 and my bank card cos he knows I'll leave those for him before I'll left. I realize this When it's too late.
This interviewer should be fired! Not only was he asking some nonsensical questions (like, was it a direct flight or connecting flights to Oman?), he's not paying attention to our responses! Keeps asking her the same question she had just answered a few seconds before. I mean, how can you ask a person who is clearly traumatized what she thinks the government can do about the issue...seriously? Poor girl! I hope she is able to recover from the traumatic experience she has been through. My heart truly goes out to her.
Beautiful intelligent Lady, sorry for the sufferings you went through.Nigerian leadership has failed it's Citizenry in every aspect and Our youths are paying dearly with their blood
So damilola u went dere too.....I wish I can come to dis station and share my experience....seriously her case is similar to mine....those pple r hrtless and all d same
She is not trafficked, from her words, she was told she was going to Oman, the agent never hid where they were going. She also said the woman she worked with was very nice to her. She was not trafficked because she was aware of where she was going.
This young lady brought me to tears. I'm so sorry you had to go through such hell. You are a brave young woman for bringing this story to light. Evil lives and it's in Oman. The Nigerian mission at the UN should lodge a formal complaint against the sovereign of Oman.
My heart goes out to her too, but what happened to her doesn't happen to everybody. I am an Indian and have been living in Oman my whole life and not once have I faced any danger or felt any kind of discomfort (I'm a female). Omani's are some of the most respectful people you will ever meet. A person's behavior isn't because of their country , you can't just blame the whole country!
Not only Oman. All the countries in the middle east are hell. But the good thing is that millions of people from the middle east are living peacefully in Africa and are loved by the Africans.
I'm really really sorry that you had this experience 😔 It's not only black. It's also indians and south east asians. We need to grow up and be "tolerant" not only to Arab and whites but everyone
Please can anybody help Me please my girlfriend is at Oman and she is really suffering please how can she comes back please I am really confused she has spend more than 6 month but she want to come back but no way please who can help
I understand you I have worked like a nanny and maid in Dubai I worked for 10months and resigned. It was not easy my boss was good but my madam was something else but you won't imagine that i meet some other maids working for different families and some of them are very kind towards their maids
The sad part is it’s our Brothers and Sisters from there in Nigeria 🇳🇬 carried out all the traveling processing knowing fully what they are going there to do without having any human feelings in them. This is pathetic.
This thing happens in Dubai as well.. I lived in dubai for about 2years...many ladies are forced into being a housemaid and treated very bad...i met a few ladies who were trapped, some from Ghana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, etc.. There is something about the mind of an Arab man which I can't really understand... African leaders should rise and make our continent better so we can avoid going to such places. It's real.... If you must go to the Middle East go there and visit ONLY...I also had my passport withheld by my employer as well (90% of jobs in the middle east will have your passport withheld)... Luckily I had a leave and got my passport back and you know the rest... I relocated to the United States... My Dubai boss threatened to ban me from entering dubai if I don't come back lol... Their father.... Best be warned... I feel this girls pain... Dubai, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi etc... They are not good people...stay off the middle east....
I disagree I spent time in Oman I enjoyed the experience. The hospitality was amazing strangers would meet me welcome me into their homes. Actually considering migrating to Oman in a few years

Shangala should have been the title of this. Common in Egypt too.It is being exposed enough to know the tricks of these agents. They package everything to look so fine but people are carried a way by exchange rate calculations. Once they get hold of your passport, you're an illegal immigrant in the country. Since Oman is hosting the next world cup, I hope this issue is on the discourse
Thanks for the correction. You know the media have a way of influencing narratives? Now that Russia is hosting the WC, they are highlighting racism and homophobia in the USSR region. They did same for Brazil and SA/Mexico area in terms of poverty, gangsterism and poverty. Same can be done for Qatar and the region in its entirety.
