Omar wanted word to get to Marlo to bait him into an irrational move. I think Chris figured it best to not even let Marlo know because he knew Marlo was too prideful about his street image to act out of anything other than anger, rather than making a smart sensible play. Marlo was pissed, but his team made the best business desicion.

Chris didn't tell Marlo because he knew Marlo would keep wasting his resources to hunt down Omar. They are in the drug business...not the "kill the people I don't like business". Even when Marlo was arrested he ordered Monk and Chris to send people down to the corners to say word didn't get back to him that Omar was calling him a punk. That's a waste of time and resources that could be used for other things instead of saving Marlo's reputation.

Asmah Noordin That's the weird thing about Omar, I kind of get the impression that his main motivation wasn't money, throughout the series he seemed to be waging a personal war against the powers that be on the street. Remember that time he said "it aint what you taking, its who you takin it from". My theory is that when he was younger he had some bad experiences with the drug gangs, so he decided to wage a personal war against them. I mean a lot of times when he made a score he would give a lot of the shit away. And some people guess that at the end, Michael was supposed to grow up to be the next Omar, and that would make sense cause Michael had also had some bad experiences with the drug gangs, so I can see a situation where he would grow up to wage his own personal war against them

+jf1971 a23 Omar represents gangsters with a "code." You see him mention this to Bunk in his office. Avon Barksdale is also someone who abides by this "code." Marlo, then, is the antagonist to this code. All he cares about is the money and power. Omar is punishing Marlo for breaking this code. Omar targets only the people who are breaking the rules of the game.
@HoodPresident4
@HoodPresident4 7 лет назад
liquidpersuasion I don't think Omar gives a damn who breaks codes and who doesn't, but when you directly fuck with him then it becomes a bigger problem. Plus he's a stick up man, good or bad, right or wrong, it's how he made a living. The irony in the wire is a lot of his troubles stem from him just doing his job as simple as that sounds.

After deciding this was the most powerful scene in the entire series, I struggled to figure out why. I have finally gotten it. This is the best scene of The Wire because at this moment, Omar Little has become the Hero of the series. His actions at this stage are of pure moral outrage; he is fighting against wrong purely because he feels it's right. Where everyone else was compromised, Omar was redeemed.The payoff to this - of course - is he does not last long against the power of status quo.

I'd say Marlo's crew. Even though the Barksdales had Brandon killed, he was directly involved in stealing their shit. Not a justification for a horrible torture and death, but if compared to Butchie it's worse. Butchie was also tortured (not as badly) and killed but only to get information out of him as to Omar's whereabouts. He hadn't done shit to Marlo directly. Omar couldn't live that down and the money/drugs became absolutely meaningless, unlike when he was still robbing the Barksdales.

J Smith yes. marlo was not scared of Omar, but Chris was. Subconsciously Chris seems to fear Omar from the very start. Chris constantly seeks to disuade Marlo from further confrontations with Omar. perhaps its because Chris knows his strength and sees an attribute Omar has to nullify this strength. My personal analysis is Omar has a natural ability to supress fear. Chris on the other hand, has always used, intimidation and surprise to get into his enemies head. Same with Omar, however Chris has alot of self doubt as seen in his postures at times, Omar on the other hand doesnt really doubt himself

then it wouldn't be the wire. the fate of omar was an attempt to humanize him. kenard is the only person who isn't afraid of omar any time he comes around, and the show demonstrates that anyone can be taken by anyone. plus, it also established the legend of omar and the fear and respect his name brought, which is what marlo wanted, but never was able to attain. that's why marlo ran those guys off the corner after becoming legit -- it was never about money for him, it was about power, fear and respect.

This raid was Omar’s best yet, horns his reputation as a fierce street fighter. There is something noble in his defiance. He was always outnumbered, wounded multiple times, never backed down. This kind of stress level yet didn’t turn to drugs or alcohol, or vent his frustrations on civilians. A man must have a code. Despite of routine extreme violence both from him or his adversaries, he still felt guilt from Moreland on tearing up his communities. His court side humiliating the lawyer. Omar is my favourite African American character of all time.

Notice how Omar shoots for the legs so as not to kill unnecessarily. The only times he shoots to kill are when he’s defending himself or if he’s hunting down someone who he has problems with, like Stringer or Stinkum. When he’s just sticking up some random guy he doesn’t have beef with he only shoots to wound, if he even shoots at all. You see this in season one in the first stickup when he also shoots the guy in the leg. The guy has a strict moral code

No way, sure Marlo handed those corner thugs at the end of the series, probably because he looked like a square in his suit and they weren't expecting any whoopass from him. But Snoop and Chris were the grade A heavies he needed for his power to be real, and were thus more Omar's speed. Omar's been using a gun since he was a boy, as the Wire Prequels (cool to watch and available on youtube) indicate. Sure Marlo killed himself, a girl, Devonne, but it doesn't mean he's an actual gunslinger.

+Permitted_ I wouldn't think so. Production on this season and TDK were happening simultaneously in early-mid 2007 right? Unless some staff were getting access to the TDK film set in Chicago or something. That even seems a bit unlikely given the secrecy of the filming of TDK and the fact that The Wire wasn't held in as high esteem during the time it was on the air so writers getting access to the set in 2007 seems improbable. You never know for sure though...

Chris wouldn't tell Marlo because he knew Marlo cared too much about his image and reputation to NOT go down and confront Omar if he knew he was calling him out, and it worried him that Marlo might not be able to handle Omar (or that Omar was simply luring Stanfield out in the open so that he could spring a trap of some kind.) It's cute seeing some folks in the comments deny the obvious.

Omar could've retired rich with Renaldo and lived happily ever after in Puerto Rico, instead he's back in Baltimore, he was bound by honor which prevented him from letting go of Butch!
