My music teacher once said that the period immediately before a treble's voice changes produces the warmest sound, like mature wine, in a way that isn't easily reproducible when he's younger. This is a great demonstration of it. Your voice here is clearly much lower, but I compare this performance to your other earlier ones and there's a warmer, mature, and more honeyed quality to it. The combination of full training with mature vocal tract gives a really unique sound when singing soprano/mezzo repertoire. I can totally understand what he meant now. Excellent performance, as always. :)

Did not care too much for the accompaniment, but the singing was out of this world. As your voice gets (a bit) deeper, it gets (even) more interesting. Can't wait to hear what you will sound like as an adult, but no doubt with your musicality and voice support it is going to be great!

Well, if you would like to be a tenor in the end, have you heard the (1920) recording of Ombra mai fu by Caruso? The link is on the Serse page in Wikipedia (and also on the Caruso page). So maybe you can sing (and record!) the aria again but in a different voice in a few years' time1

I just watched both performances, and I see that there is a more mature and richer sound in this newer version. However, both of the videos are absolutely beautiful. If you decide to keep singing as a tenor, it would be good to watch and listen to Fritz Wunderlich, who also had a wonderful lyrical voice with almost perfect diction. God will give you whatever voice He wants you to have. You just keep working hard and praise Him with your talent.

I love the beautiful voice and interpretation of Aksel indeed, but as italian you may know that "cara" doesn't pronounced like that, maybe it's not a big issue but almost all the foreign singers do the same with the latin R. But like I said, it's not a big deal. ¡Wonderful Aksel! :)

It's fantastic how your voice is coming on Aksel. Your teacher is excellent. A young friend of mine who was recently head chorister at my local cathedral is finding his top range is going (he's 14 nearly 15) but can still sing mezzo stuff while being able to sing tenor as well. I will be very interested to see what range you will be most comfortable with as you move into adulthood. Lots of love from a big fan anyway. When is the new CD due for release?

Greetings from Alaska Aksel! Every time I listen/watch to one of your videos I am continually amazed at the upward continuation of your voice, and abilities to make full and wise use of it. Your singing brings me much joy, and tears at times, because of the beauty of it. God bless you Aksel, and always remember to give Him thanks for your voice! Absolutely world class SUPERB!! P.S. Are you still considering to sing the Mahler 4/4? Interesting to see Norway beat the Germans at their own game! I am Norwegian/Swedish descent, having great grandparents that immigrated to America from the Kvitsoy area 100+ years ago. So I feel entitled to poke a bit of fun!

Thank you for the reply. I have listened to the versions of the Mahler 4th performed by Allan Bergius and Helmut Wittik. They each have their own uniqueness that they bring to the task, and I do like both of their performances a lot. I suspect that with the clarity and power of your voice, and the mastery of the skills you have learned, that you will/have given a SUPERB rendition of it (maybe a recording?). You bring much joy and beauty into this world through your singing. I wish you well and much success in the future. You legions of fans are waiting to see what the future will bring to you. Aksel I do insist. You have to ear Jan Garbarek especially the cd Officium and the cd Rosenfolde with music based on medieval songd from Norway. The cd is no more disponoble (1989) but you can ear some songs on Amazon unlimited music. It will be a chance to make may be only one song or of course a cd with this man

Yes your voice is starting to change, but please, do not worry, we will always remember your 'treble' years AND look flawed to a great future career without any doubt. Just don't let people push you to 'commercial' singing situations. With a star, and handsome as you are, people will try to use you! Remain honest to your talent and be patient. Great things are awaiting you... even if you have to stay away from public stages for a year. Rest, have fun, enjoy your life, and then when you feel ready - come back and amaze your public again.

A pity that Paul Witteman did not have a conversation with you. I am very curious as to what you are experiencing now, feeling your voice lowering somewhat. Agree with another comment. The accompaniment is not so good but was probably let down by the sound desk. Same for Aksel's mike. Glitchy at times with spits and spats. He was brilliant nonetheless. Rich sounds now and into the future I'm sure.

I agree with @htcpt: your singing is fantastic and your voice has gotten progressively stronger and richer; but that ensemble's playing style is a sorry mismatch for Handel - they sound like they're playing a Schubert quartet rather than the opening aria for Serse. I really hope you'll be posting a video of this piece with a baroque group!

Nothing beats a baroque ensemble with period instruments for this, I agree. I will see what can happen in the time I have left as a soprano...
