I got a 60hp that I’m about to this to! I’ve deleted the VRO system, rebuilt carbs! No more fuel leaks! Now going to tackle this! Thank you for this detailed video very much needed help 🚤
Thanks at last I can fix my Johnson's likage. I think my linkage is out. The idle speed screw does not even touch. Cam movements are late. The lever of the advance moves late, so I have to keep the minimum at 1300 rpm, otherwise the engine goes off when I enter the gear. Now I can finally fix everything. Thanks again you are a true friend
Thanks for the video, just bought the boat seen the throttle wasn't opening all the way , only half way , I bet it will run out better now thanks again
I got an 87 Johnson 150 and this is the last thing I need to do to it. However being a complete noob, even after rebuilding carbs for the first time, this looks like it's a bit out of my comfort zone. At least it told me my issue tho!
Will this this adjustments apply to a 1977 75hp evinrude looks the same exept the throttle plate on mine has two embossed i know mine has to align with the lower mark
Unfortunately, my 1991 Evinrude is different. The idle is set by timing not the "idle adjustment screw" as noted in video, unless I am seeing something wrong.
Brandon, @ ~ 8:12, should the throttle lever spring hold the throttle lever against the idle screw? I am trying to complete this process, but when I disconnect the throttle cable, the throttle lever falls away from the idle stop. If I disconnect the spark advance linkage, the whole lever assembly swings freely. The spring does provide tension between the throttle lever and the spark advance lever when you manually advance the throttle lever past the max spark advance position of the spark lever. Hope that makes since.
did you disconnect the throttle cable first, then do the adjustments? if it just swings around freely, you will need to service the throttle advancing lever (the one with the big single bolt in the center). there is a bushing in there and shims, i believe. replace those, and you will get resistance back.
I have a 1986 Johnson 50hp. I was wondering if you knew what the WOT degree setting should be as well as idle timing degree setting. Idles pretty good, WOT seems a tad off. I just dont want to burn a piston if its too far advanced.
WOT timing is a factory set n' forget type deal, unless some dunce decided they knew better than the engineers. However, its very easy to check! timing light and can do it statically with throttle in WOT position, spark plugs out. look for 15-17 degrees (18-21 degrees when motor is running). the 2cyl 1980-1985 60hp motors were 21 degrees, but i wouldnt go that high. id experiment around 18-19 degrees whatever give you the most bottom end punch. your 50 is basically an older 60hp, so very possible it makes more power all the way up to 21 degrees but use high test fuel when doing this to find the sweet spot.
I am confused on the Idle speed. He is setting the idle with the boat in the water, in gear , with a prop installed, not tied down, and the throttle plates are not engaged. I feel like I am missing something here. Can this be done on muffs?
There needs to be pressure against the exhaust system from water. Putting it in a bucket is better if you don't have a calm lake. Not a mechanic but that's my understanding.
Man, my Idle Set screw has been....remove, and theres just a normal bolt screwed into the hole and painted over. It's making it hard for me to find knowledge on how to bump my idle up some.
hello i have a problem with cdi johnson 70 tl year 1995. i replaced it with a used one from a friend, but after 10 days this one stopped working too. I have no fire in any of the three sparks. I would like to put a new one, but my fear that some other component will damage the cdi. could be? Thanks Best regards Nicola
@@dongesswin those earlier ones , prior to 1984 or so, are definitely not as refined or detailed as the later ones. just as long as it's the factory manual and not those aftermarket ones. did you get it worked out?
Bom dia adorei pena que não entendo inglês sou do Brasil eu tenho um motor Johnson 70n ano 74 e meu motor não tem força para sair eu acho que ta fora de ponto tem como traduzir este vídeo em português
Hi Brandon, dig your videos, i shared this and the last video on linkage adjustment on v4s on a FB page for omc 3cyl and v4s, hope you dont mind :-) are you following those groups on FB? Best regards from Norway :-)
I don't mind. I've been a long-time poster on forums.boats.net,but I don't usually join many new groups these days. I find when you try to share information a bunch of haters come out of the woodwork to explain how much more they know than everyone else.
