Beijing 2022 marks the 30th time that Omega will hold the honor of the official timekeeper of the Olympic games. The brand has famously celebrated the prestigious partnership on numerous occasions with the release of several limited edition watches. Year after year, each edition quickly becomes a prized collector’s item, and we expect the brand-new edition released today to follow suit.
While we will be discussing the newest Olympics Omega watch ref. 522.10.41.21.04.02 in this live, we will also include an example from 2020 and a non-Olympics model for comparison.
The winter games are slated to begin in February of 2022 in China and include bobsledding, speed skating, and ice hockey. The newest Omega release celebrates the brand’s participation in the 2022 games by including several design elements inspired by winter.
The Dial
First is the icy white ceramic dial decorated with Omega’s “frost-finish” pattern. The blue-trimmed hour markers and hands compliment the cool winter tones of the dial perfectly. It also includes bright Superluminova plots, a red Seamaster logo, and red quarter minute markers on the track surrounding the dial.
Covering the face is a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. With the durable stainless steel finish and the Seamaster’s waterproof crown, this special edition Omega is prepared for whatever challenges the winter games might bring. Of course, it’s also an exceptional companion for daily wear.
The Case Back
It’s customary for special edition Omega watches to include engravings on the case back, and this Beijing 2022 edition does not disappoint. On the back of the 41mm case is an intricate design decorated with the Beijing 2022 winter games emblem and the Aqua Terra collection’s signature beveled case back edging.
The Movement
The powerhouse behind this Omega is the brand’s impressive calibre 8900 self-winding movement. With anti-magnetic properties of up to 15,000 gauss, a 60-hour power reserve, and the coveted distinction of a Master Chronometer, you can time your favorite athletes with precision as they participate in the games. The calibre 8900 was also the very first Omega to earn the METAS certification.

We also have a handsome blue dial Tokyo 2020 Omega in our vault that we’ve brought out for comparison. While the 2022 model is a Seamaster, the 2020 example that we have in stock is a sporty Speedmaster chronograph, complete with distinct side pushers, coordinating registers on the dial, and a slim Tachymeter bezel.
While the Speedmaster is more commonly paired with a black dial and bezel, this special edition Tokyo 2020 Omega opts for striking blue. It also features contrasting silver sub-dials and vibrant red markings.
Like the 2022 Beijing model, this Omega includes special engravings on the case back, specifically the Tokyo 2020 emblem. The case back also features limited edition markings to signify that this is no ordinary Speedmaster watch.
The Movement
At the heart of the 2020 Tokyo model beats the cal. 1861 hand-wound movement with a 48-hour power reserve and stopwatch function. The Speedmaster was famously the first watch worn on the Moon, and this movement is a descendent of the very movement that was present as humankind explored the lunar surface.

For further comparison, we’ve included a regular production Omega watch. Flipping the case over, you will notice that there are no special markings representing the Olympic games. Instead, the case back is outfitted with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, giving the wearer a clear view of the beautiful movement hard at work within the case.
Powering this edition of the Seamaster Aqua Terra is the same cal. 8900 movement included with the brand-new 2022 Beijing Omega. It also features a similar case design, complete with twisted lugs, smooth bezel, 41mm diameter, and similar-shaped dagger hour markers and arrow hands.
Comparing the dial, this Aqua Terra includes the collection’s iconic teak-concept dial, while the 2022 Beijing Aqua Terra model displays the time on a brand-new frost-pattern dial.
