PRO GUITARIST REACTS; OMFG..... REN & SAM TOPKINS-EARNED IT/MANS WORLD/FALLING I'm a former LA session guitarist and a music teacher thanks for watching #cosmicmiko #ren #hiren #samtompkins #mansworld
Nice to see you commenting on reactions too, like Ren does. It seems RU-vidrs greatly appreciate the interaction. Great performance, from the both of you!
Yo! There's a video somewhere of Ren and Sam's first meeting. When they were teenagers Ren had to stop busking for the day and he paused to listen to Sam who was busking nearby with no equipment. Sam had a few friends with him to make him look more popular and one was filming him. Ren offered Sam his equipment, including guitar, but Sam can't play. So Ren stayed and played for him, and Sam made more that day than he ever had as Ren let him keep the takings. They have been friends ever since. I love this story about them because it's so opposite to the industry egos and feuds we hear about all the time.
Found it! Only watched it recently. 12:20 on this one here is Sam telling the story and reacting to the old video of them jamming together for the first time. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4QPXy9IZCW8.html
Ren was a class act even back then. I know a lot of buskers and there's almost no reason any would leave a spot early. I'm guessing here, but I'm betting Ren wasn't feeling well that day and just wanted to go home. Instead he sees a kid with the voice of an angel getting very little attention and the rest olis history. Total class.
@@ChrisLawton66 I think you're right, and in the video with Sam he is sitting on the floor playing guitar. Giving Sam the stage, but also fits if he was struggling.
Yoooooo The short I saw yesterday described that same scenario….the two were talking and remembering that day. That is quite selfless of Ren to help in that way.
Thanks for your comment @MissMeKate just searched up for that and i think i found it... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5CLas8s4u2k.html ... not one I had seen before and what an amazing story... defo worth a watch ... thanks for sharing that 👍👍
As I keep pointing out. it's Ren, he just does whatever he feels like and 99% of the time it he pulls it off. Sam is a really good buddy of Ren's and they started out busking together at a young age and they're rooting for each other now. respect.
Phillips wife Susan here saying Yo. Definitely check out the many different versions of the song Ren and Sam wrote called "Blind Eye". The angry car park attendant version is lots of fun and shows how skilled they are singing on the run. I love many of Sam's songs especially the one he did about his Dad called "Hero".
@@michaelgoyettemusic There is an acoustic version of Hero as well as the official one. They both sound good. The acoustic one is done in a tunnel and Sam's voice sounds amazing in it.
Thanks you! Sam has a great single Loose it All and many others. Also Sam and Ren have a song they wrote together called Blind Eyed, it went viral a few years back. There is a video version and a few live versions of Blind Eyed. Everybody's favorite is one with the angry garage attendant.
Yo! Great reaction~ "Okay we had beatboxing...,Okay, we've uncovered another Ren skill." Said so nonchalant, is one of my favourite things I've seen in a reaction. 😂Tons of other reactors are like OMG he can beat box as well! holy crap!! You were like "Yeah, that's not surprising at all."
Those two together make be smile. So much talent and joy. You can hear Ren beatboxing some more in "The Hunger". Thanks for you breakdown and observations. Excellent work. Yo
Yo! Appreciate you sharing your reaction and knowledge, your videos are always interesting and give a different perspective. Keep keeping it real, peace out!
This is my top Ren and Sam collaboration, so I was definitely hoping you were going to react. Which you did, greatly! I was thinking about what frankly I found a jaw dropping moment is when Ren comes ic with his full lung voice, it’s a man’s world, you didn’t comment on that moment. Interesting what we each are blown away by, and I appreciate your commentary about his guitarmanship (it’s a word now baby) have you listened to Ren Genisis…
It was a top moment…..I stopped and rolled it back…..I thought I said something about but maybe I just thought it……..it was powerful. It was a different side of his guitar playing…..I’ll check anything by Ren!!
@@michaelgoyettemusic Ren seems to have a LOT of people befuddled insofar as comparing or equating him to and with other artists... I've watched a LOT of 'Hi Ren' reactions and I've yet to see anyone make the Hamlet's *_"To Be or Not To Be..."_* monologue parallels. Subbed btw 👍
Good morning, loved your review. Nice to see I wasn't the only one up in the middle of the night. So many people will request Blind Eye by Ren and Sam, which they wrote together. Most will request the original, which is live , and I love it . There is another version which is also live done in a parking garage. That one is my personal favorite. It is called Ren and Sam Tomkins Blind Eye ft. Angry car park guy .I think you would so enjoy it .
Yo! I'm here for some Ren anytime! Thank you 😍for a little something different, try Ren's I Love Music 1 - 3 or his more deep songs Diazepam and Insomnia! They showcase his diverse talents! Nite nite 😊
It is so cool watching you break down videos !! You clearly love music and your rapt attention shows it in your expressions and insights! For a real treat look for Tompkins cover of Biebers " Lonely" He does it better than the Biebs! LOL
The red one is a digitek digital whammy and the beige one is a boss tuner =p the black one in the back middle is his amp sim/fx/interface/di etc. also should be noted that the black expression pedal isn't always a whammy as you see at the end
Oh I thought he was running into a small guitar amp….that would explain the high end harshness on the dirty sound….cutting everything above 8-10k would make it a lot smoother….but maybe he likes the friction?
@@michaelgoyettemusic I think he has compression/eq/gates per patch on the amp sims. It's especially clear to me when he changes patches after starting the looper. It's a genius setup that didn't exist 10 years ago in pedal form. Ppl don't realize he has over a decade of performance experience and is a total pro.
There are so many tracks of Rens and Ren plus another, and the Big Push' of course, one I would recommend is Ren and Liv Sangster busking in Brighton...it's fab and of course there is still the French guy 😉
Hahaha….thanks (I think 🤔) haha Ive done the 1st 2 suggestions already but Icarus is on the list….I don’t think the last 2 have been brought up before….I’ll check them out.
Ren is NOT a rabbit hole.. he is the entrance to a rabbit warren, Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla, The Big Push and lately he has found The Wolf amongst others. Thx for analysing this duet as it opened my eyes a little more to Rens guitar skills (and live production)
Hi, it’s the middle of the night here (4:44 a.m. actually) UK too. But saw you in a thumbnail of ‘How to be Me’ talking about Leonard Cohen. Like the detailed guitar talk. So here I am. Fabulous reaction ❤
yo - loving this. Watched this many times and I'm always entertained and moved by the performance. I'm delighted to see you discover the chemistry these two have. Don't sleep on Sam - he's a very special artist too and its a delight he is signed and getting the spotlight he deserves. As much success as he will have in the future, I'm sure he will always look back at busking with Ren as one of life's real sweet moments, and when Ren is proper well, and if Sams label (universal) allow him, all of us would love to see more of this fantastic chemistry. Get well Ren. Keep knocking it out of the park Sam..
I’m not sleeping on Sam…..I’ve done a few of his songs and we’ve actually been talking a little. Cheers. More to come and I also wish Ren a speedy recovery.
Yo, another great reaction. I really enjoy your technical breakdown of what’s happening, not everyone appreciates that side of things. If you want to see more of Ren’s looping/pedal prowess, check out him and Chinchilla doing One Dance/Drunk in Love - it’s another great street performance. Much love from Scotland 🏴
you should check out their song what went wrong 1 and 2 it’s a bit more hip hoppy but shows the most different side of Sam i have seen but the blind eyed live featuring angry car park officer is a great also! yooooo!
If that’s the case he could probably improve with one of those celebrity voice coaches…..a friend of mine went to Gwen Stefanie’s coach and was way better after one lesson….I have no idea what Sam would sound like even better but he should definitely explore that avenue
This is a short little video Sam put out about how he met Ren and what he did for him. Might make you love Ren a bit more. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5CLas8s4u2k.html
Yo! 😂On The Big push channel their is a few songs with a lady called Liv sangster with Ren on electric guitar just amazing. The Big Push is a band which Ren is a member of.
Yo! 1st visit, no clue who you are , sorry, but great reaction. Not seen this one myself before. Ren has soooo much talent to share. Never fails to impress me!
Yo! You should check out Ren's band The Big Push. On their RU-vid page they have a bunch of awesome covers they've done live on the street. They cover Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" an amazing cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion and Hip Hop" they also do "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones and Ren plays bass. This guy is nucking futs lol
Yo, you should check out their song Blind eyed, any version. They are all fun and different. I loved this! Oh, yo, and Ren is Jazz at heart. Remember the Django Reinhardt reference in The Hunger?
In one of Ren's interviews he talks about the mics. The blank one in front of Ren is better for rapping and talking. The silver one in front of Sam is the good one for singing. He says the models but I don't remember what they were. Yo. sub'd.
I learn so much from your reactions...thank you! I'm not a big Tom McDonald fan, but I see you reacted to his newest release, so I'll check it out with you...and probably learn something. 😉
Love watching these, have only just come across you this morning so haven’t seen any other videos yet but I presume you’ve watched The Big Push songs? 🖤
Love the reaction! Is that a djembe drum in the back? I'm a percussionist and music education major, those drums have quickly become some of my favorite to play
Thank you! It is indeed. Good catch! There’s a lady from Africa who makes em and brings them to my home town to sell in the summer. It sounds great but very loud!! Do you teach at a school?
@@michaelgoyettemusic Not as of yet, I am currently still in college, so I just go around and help teach whoever needs it. Soon we are flying out some guest artist from Ghana to teach us the traditional methods and culture to playing this instrument. Much respect man, and yes, they are quite loud haha.
Yo. There are some very cool Ren and Chinchilla collabs out there as well. I have been kinda stuck on their busking version of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing, I have a feeling your reaction would be special. Subbed
Yo Mike! just subscribed because your reactions are just different than the others on YT. You gotta check out Ren’s song The Tale of Jenny and Screech (FULL). It’s a trilogy. The story is bananas, but I think you’d really dig the guitar playing, as well as the improvisation of music without actually playing his guitar at times.
