I read a fantastic comment in the reaction video to this movie on another channel. The actress playing the young boy's mother was visiting some restaurant or diner or whatever, decades after, and noticed they had an "Alex Kintner sandwich" on the menu. She commented to the staff that she played his mother in this movie, and as she was leaving the owner caught up with her. Turns out HE played Alex Kintner when he was a kid (hence the sandwich), and it was the first time they had met since the making of the movie. :)

The greatest creature-thriller ever made. I remember when I was a kid watching this for the first time with my cousins in their dark basement. (back when they used to show movies on network tv). All the adults were upstairs playing cards. We were so scared, we wouldn't let our feet hang over the edge of the sofa because we knew the shark would come by in the dark and get us. 😂
@williamjones6031
@williamjones6031 10 месяцев назад
1. Jaws was the first "Summer Blockbuster". 2. Boy Scouts don't need to do the mile swim to get their merit badge. It's an accomplishment all its own. 3. Lee Fierro/Mrs. Kentner actually slapped Roy Scheider. It took 17 takes. Once was so hard it knocked his glasses off. 4. The jump scare at Ben Gardner's boat was put in on purpose by Spielberg because they were having problems with the shark "Bruce" and his appearance was delayed, and the movie needed something earlier. Works every time.🤣🤣 5. IRL Dreyfuss and Shaw didn't get along, so Spielberg used the animosity to fuel their feud onscreen. 6. The boy that said, "He made me do it' is now the Police Chief of the town where this movie was filmed. 7. Hooper was wrong. The fish that hit the line was "our fish". 8. "You're gonna need a bigger boat" is one of the greatest adlibs in history. It was the first time Roy actually saw Bruce. It was an ongoing trope within the filming due to budgetary problems. 9. Goof: An animal that large couldn't hit the side of the boat as rapidly as it did UNDER WATER. 10. I suspect Quint's story about the Indy gave him PTSD flashbacks and contributed to his behavior after he told the story. 11. I was in the Navy, and we were instructed to go for the eyes when confronting a shark. 12. Aside from Spielberg's pool used in the Ben Gardner boat scenes, all of the shipboard scenes were filmed entirely at sea, 13. In the book not only does Hooper die but he was also having an affair with Mrs. Brody. 14. JAWS II is the only other one worth watching. It revolves around the Brody kids and their friends. Including the mayor's son. 15 The third one was so bad that Scheider read the script and said NO.

In the original script, before they thought of just blowing up the shark, Brody yells “say cheese, fish dick” and shoots the shark right in the eye with a laser rifle that was sent back in time by his advanced aged future self that would eventually wake from the Matrix and invent a time traveling Delorean and end up becoming the resistance leader on a forest moon called Endor.

Terrific reaction to one of my favorites! When I was a kid, I used to wear my "Jaws" t-shirt almost every day! An interesting caveat to this story: At the time of this films release, White Sharks were relatively uncommon on the East Coast and thought to be mostly deep water predators. This was due to the Harbor Seal population having been seen as competition and decimated by commercial fishermen in previous decades. After the Marine Mammal Protection act went into effect and shooting seals became illegal, seal populations began a steady recovery. Numbers are high now, especially on Cape Cod and the Islands where "Jaws "was filmed and the White Sharks are back in a BIG way! They are now seen daily, cruising the beach in search of prey, often only feet from the shore. There are even tour boats that go out just to (hopefully?) see sharks attacking seals. -There are some very cool videos on YT of huge White Sharks in VERY shallow water on the Cape.

Emma Production crew nicknamed the mechanical shark as "Bruce" after Spielberg's lawyer, Bruce Ramer. "Bruce" was keeping malfunctioning during filming, and so, Spielberg changed filming process. "Bruce" was used mostly for closeup shots especially sinking boat scenes. There were multiple "Bruces" for filming. Recently, mold used to make "Bruces" was found at a local junkyard, and it was fully restored and hung at Academy Museum of Motion Pictures since 2020. By the way, actress/stuntwoman, Susan Backlinie, 1st victim of "Bruce" is still living at the age of 76 years old.

......So my grandmother for whatever reason let me watch this on TV when I was 6 or 7 . I developed Jaws-phobia immediately, wholeheartedly believing Jaws had magic powers and could turn himself invisible and he could come up the toilet to eat my ass in half if he damn well wanted to. ( It got a little better when I turned 13, but then Jurassic Park and now I still sometimes scan every single door and window for possible raptor entry points.) It took 30 some odd years of self-therapy to get over that, and I decided to put the lynch pin in it by getting into the third biggest aquarium in the entire country shark-infested fishbowl and swim around with a whole bunch of 'em. I figured getting a close up look at a live shark would finish off that fear. Which it did, because the second I looked at the bottom 30 ft below me I was completely captivated. I had NO IDEA how "close up" I was going to be. The aquarium housed several kinds of sharks hanging out down there, from about 3-8 feet long. Reef sharks. You are not allowed to swim at the bottom of the tank unless you are SCUBA-certified, so getting a close up look at those puppies wasn't possible. But completely fine with me, swimming at the top, because the tank had a manta ray or two, and three not-fully-grown whale sharks that liked to hang up a few feet under the surface. (22 feet, 27 feet, and 31 feet long respectively) that you are not allowed to touch. However there was no rule that said they were not allowed to touch YOU. So technically I didn't break any rules. Anyhow, I was completely captivated by the sharks at the bottom that I forgot all about the sharks at the top....until one of them plowed right into me. You would think that a fish the size of a school bus is something you would NOTICE if it was coming in your direction. I hadn't. I don't think it noticed me either, because it just kept going as I skidded down her back, whacked my mask sideways on a fin and underwater-tumbled off the tail in the longest (and strangest) 4 seconds of my life. Thankfully I was too confused as to why everything suddenly had polka dots to have a heart attack. Best part was that the camera guy elected to film my failed stealth check instead of warning me. And maybe I did shave a few years off my life for that but hey, I got a fantastic story out of it! Good experience? Yes. Shark phobia? Gone. Will I ever go in the ocean further than knee-deep? Hell no. There's invisible sharks out there.

Most great white sharks are around 15 feet (4.572m) long. This one was a 25 foot (7.62m) monster. The largest great white ever recorded was 20 feet (6.096m) long.

I'll take Practical Effects over CGI 90% of the time. SOME MUST SEE MOVIES for Horror are "the THING" (1982), "the Exorcist", "Tremors" (This one's fun as well)... For the Monster Trilogy, there's "Halloween", "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street"....

All night shots were filmed in broad daylight using a filter. The USS Indianapolis story is true but for some reason they use the wrong date. Most people miss them walking out of the water during the end credits.

Great reaction. And think JAWS was rated PG! Still my favorite Spielberg film. As others have said Quint's monologue is a true event from WWII and quite accurate and the news reporter is Peter Benchley the author of JAWS. Watch this every July 4.

You have to wonder how this movie ever got a PG rating. Back then it was super easy to be given an R rating with almost any graphic violence. This movie had a severed head and a man bitten in half very graphically and very violently! Same could be said for Raiders of the Lost Ark with exploding heads and people being pureed by propellers.

Another little interesting fact for you Emma. As a result of the novel Jaws and this movie great white sharks were hunted to the point where they became an endangered species. Peter Benchley who was the author of Jaws (He had a cameo as the TV reporter in this movie) later felt guilty about the effect his story had and spent a lot of his later years dedicated to the conservation of sharks (especially great white sharks). Sharks are a wonderful animal and they very rarely attack humans. Sharks shouldn't be looked at as monsters.

I'm a PADI certified rescue diver, and I love sharks! They are dangerous in some ways, but I swear, being within a couple of feet and touching them, they sort of act like dogs. They're more curious than aggressive.
