Tampere and Wembley are both awesome. Just a couple differences. Tampere is outdoors with fireworks, Wembley is indoors with Richard Dawkins on stage at the end. Troy's part starts with Irish Low Whistle here, and Guitar with EBOW at Wembley. The song is about the formation of the solar system and the evolution of life on Earth. Floor's dress has the DNA helix, and is sort of the Finnish flag colors. And her parents were in the crowd. Don't forget to breath ,Debbie lol WE WERE HERE!!!

@@beldin2987 But the Tampere version has the better audio quality and Floor's voice and pronounciation is top level in this one. The Wembley version is great and having Richard himself on stage is of course awesome, though when it comes to the performance I prefer the Tampere version.

Now you've seen the best version, now you need to see the Wembley version, because there are serious differences that are also excellent!! It's different enough to deserve a separate video with a surprise at the very end. Like this one, do not stop until the video is completely over ... you want to see the ending! In my opinion, this is the single greatest composition of my life time, and my dear, I have decades on you. So glad you enjoyed it.

Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation." "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

Indeed people who didn’t see it, miss something in their lives. I’ve seen this and other versions a zillion times and I’m still amazed every single time. Now your an official member of the ANWA (Anonymous Nightwish Army), we can’t help with your addiction, we only share it 🤘🎸🤘 P.S. Many of my relatives and friends did not see it yet. I won’t force them to see, listen or experience it. That is, until the day I die. It’s in my will to show this at my cremation to tell them ‘we were here’……. It will also be filmed to share it with those who can’t be in Thailand at that time. Good thing it lasts 3 days……..

@The Question Queens: Debbie, I'm so happy you finally got to this one! What blows my mind, every time I hear this performance, is this: That Tuomas masterfully took 14.8 billion years, and distilled the whole history of the Universe, and Earth in it, down into a 24-minute magnum opus. Two things need be said, by Dr. Carl Sagan, the other by Dr. Richard Dawkins: "Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there -- on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam." ~ Dr. Carl Sagan, _Pale Blue Dot_ "We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?" ~ Dr. Richard Dawkins, _The Greatest Show On Earth_

Nightwish’s longest song to date, “The Greatest Show On Earth” is a 24 minute progressive conceptual song broken into five distinct movements (as seen in the lyrics ) I - Four Point Six II - Life III - The Toolmaker IV - The Understanding V - Sea-Worn Driftwood The overarching theme of the song is the development of life on Earth and, hence, evolution. The song (and the album as a whole) draws inspiration from Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, the paper which founded the idea of evolutionary biology. The song also draws heavy influences from Richard Dawkin’s 2009 book The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, with samples taken from the audiobook narrated by the author being used in this song.

Hi Debbie - I think we’ve all been waiting for this one for quite a while! 😅 How much would I pay to be there, to experience that in person you asked? That performance, or one just like it? Thousands. And it would be worth every penny. Seriously, could you imagine this? You’re at the show, towards the end - and all of a sudden you find yourself with thousands upon thousands of others, fists in the air, singing/screaming “WE WERE HERE!” at the top of their lungs! How much would that be worth??? Is there even a way to put a $ figure on that? As if that weren’t enough, shortly afterwards Professor Dawkins then eloquently reminds each and every one of us just how incredibly fortunate we are to be here. Untold numbers never had the chance and never will. If that’s not a life-changing profound thought & experience, what is????

This as I understand it is Richard Dawson's belief of how life on Earth evolved and its based on Charles Dawin's theory of the evolution of Earth, developed so many years ago. Richard Dawson is the man who speaks to the audience at the end of the song. Our understanding of evolution is different now as more findings of human skeletons and animal skeletons are found altho technically we are classified as animals. The video in the background here depicts the coming and sometimes going of life on Earth down through the ages. The ending is so poinient as there is a realization that our time on Earth will also end as realized in the phrase, "We WERE here." With time, life on Earth will evolve beyond us. Floor, Tuomas (sp?) and I think Troy wanted to be biologists but got directed into music which for all of us was such a blessing. Nightwish IS the greatest band on Earth!!! Wish I was there but I am happy to listen to this opus with Floor's voice shining so bright like the star she is. I am such a Nightwish fan. Thank you for your reactions and being who you are. You are such a treasure.

This is one of Tuomas's great masterpieces. And it is so perfectly performed by all musicians; and as you point out, Floor's contribution is out of this world, literally considering the subject of the song lol. As for band timing, for a few decades now the advent of the 'click track' has kept musicians in time with each other and various pre-programmed synthesizers, lights, fireworks, and just about anything that can be hooked up to the MIDI computer running it all haha. The downside is that bands are given very little leeway to stray off the beaten path and jam, or extend or shorten a solo, or play with dynamics, etc. Sorry for the techie blather, but it is interesting to know that when you watch a lot of bands nowadays. Can't wait to see what you review next! Cheers from the much vex'd Bermooths 🙂

to think that the stamina of the artists of nightwish this was the last song of the concert. This is one of their best songs after poet song. The song is about evolution and humanity. Individually their timing is perfect from instruments to vocals to fireworks. keep rocking Can i make an suggestion of another rabbit hole to go down is the German Band Rammstein Du Haust (i think you will need english caps for Du Haust) i recommend the Gardens live concert for that (you will get the Rammstein Army invade your channel as well)

Is there anything more epic than this? I attended a New Years eve concert in San Fransisco in the early '70's. Twenty of the biggest bands of the era performed. It lasted two days and they were passing out hamburgers, weed and LSD to the crowd. A uniformed SF cop bummed a hit off a joint from me. At midnight Jerry Garcia descended from the ceiling in a giant hourglass wearing only a diaper. I would gladly trade that experience to have been in the crowd during this concert...

Nice Reaction! Toumas is in a class of his own when it comes to song composition! You must watch the interview Floor did before this concert. It is not a sit down interview, but the interviewer goes with Floor to her Rock Academy Reunion, then they go to the concert venue and he asks her more questions and then the interviewer talks with Floors parents (with Floor standing there) and then he talks to Marco and Toumas for a couple of minutes. Then the next day he meets up with Floor and they go to a music store and meet some Nightwish fans. There has been a few reactors that have reacted to it, but that will be up to you. A must watch though! "Floor Jansen - (English&Finnish Subtitles) Interview and Reportage from Tampere"

Regarding the pyro and the fireworks...I think they are all syncronized by computer code with the "click track" that is embedded into the song...I think Tuomas also does that with the choir and symphony sections in songs as well. I might be wrong but I think that might be how it's done. It's called "MIDI" code.
