I just got one found at thrift store brand new woo. but I have to put it in a normal lunch box because one my son takes a water bottle to school so it doesn't fit and if you put food in the sections where do I put the napkin and spoon. then also the drink compartment doesn't hold an apple sauce pouch without smashing it. so for all that need to put it in a normal lunch box. but were trying it hope it's good.
I hate having to clean the silicone liner all the time. If you forget to clean it, you will end up with mold and bed smell. If you do any rinsing, the water will definitely get behind the liner.
Would I be able to heat the water up in the microwave wave for about 3-5 minutes and put it in the thermos and still expect it to be warm by around 11:20am?
I have not found any success in keeping food warm in the thermos. I even threw some hot boiling water in the thermos for a minute or two before replacing it with the heated food. Any tips?
Hi Vivienne - I think you’re on the right track with the boiling water. I would try letting the hot water sit a little longer before exchanging it for the hot food though - maybe 5-10 minutes. As you’ve said you also want the food to be piping hot when you add it to the thermos. It also helps if you can fill the thermos all the way. The more air that’s sealed inside the thermos, the more quickly the food will cool off. So for example, if the thermos is filled to the top with soup, it will stay hot longer than if it is only filled halfway. Hope this helps!
Do you have to use the silicone liner? I'm only interested in the thermos being inside of the lunchbox. Without the lining, does the lid still close properly? The leak proof function is not my concern.
@@gemerial2808 I bought one and we haven't had that problem. Unfortunately, you do need to use the silicone liner but I love this lunch box anyways! It's almost perfect. I switch between the OmieBox and Planetbox.
My 4th grader told me it was hard for her classmate to open hot food container. Multiple students give it a try and then they asked the teacher. It was not easy for the teacher either.
There isn't anything else on the market that keeps food hot/cold and fits everything else. For someone with a kid who doesn't like to eat hot foods cold, that extra step is a very small price to pay to make sure he has the lunch he wants. I think it's a fantastic product!
Hi Rachel -- I didn't think it was supposed to expire, but I just tested it and it doesn't seem to be working anymore. I'll check in with the OmieBox folks to see what's up. Sorry about that!
This is actually not all you need to know. I don’t care how it looks or how easy it is to open because my kids have lunch aides. I do however care if it actually keeps the food warm from 6:30a to 12pm which is when my oldest has lunch. $40 for a look isn’t worth it. It seems more like a gimmick then something really useful
It will not keep your food hot from 6:30 am to noon - it’s just too long of a time for such a small quantity of food. It’s really hard to tell people “Yes - this will work for your needs” or “No - this isn’t for you” because everyone has different specific needs for their lunch boxes. My kids' lunches are in the thermos from 8-11:30 am and it does keep food hot that long so it’s OK for us. It definitely is not a good choice for your family though so I would recommend a more serious thermos with a smaller lunch box for sides. This chart I put together is a good place to start to pick a thermos: wendolonia.com/blog/bento-box-basics/thermos-thermal-jar-comparison-chart/.
Yes, though it doesn't work perfectly. When I've done this in the past, I put the thermos container in the freezer for an hour or so before putting the ice cream in. (overnight works even better) The ice cream was still mostly frozen at lunch time, but it had melted a bit.
This is the first version of the OmieBox that came out several years ago. On the newer version the silicone seal has moved from the lid to the main part of the lunch box.
Do you like this original design? Omie is having a sale on this first Omie design and wondering if I should save money in this older design or if it’s worth getting the newer one
@@ASMRXAME I haven't tried he new version, so I can't compare, but my understanding is that it solves a lot of the issues I had with the original version. That being said, I have used the original for years and liked it fine.
Get on with the review, I don't care how much you talked to the developer gees. Hard to watch from all that fluff about who you know but otherwise great review.
