Sunny being overwhelmed by the things he's been running from and desperately crawling up to Omori's throne to seek his protection really is quite a scene isn't it...
I'm going to do the hikko route becuase I need to experience everything in the game, but damn, even refusing Kel a high five for the achievement hurt, ghosting our buddy Kel is going to kill me real good
@@sugar2000galaxy shadow basil even said that black space is getting stronger than him in one of the black space doors. And in the hikikomori route black space does get stronger by turning into "blacker space/ black space 2", and the something's wandering around in places where you found the truth before. You could even access both the black spaces from headspace which was impossible before
The Guardian is mighty, but it does not have enough power to protect the Dreamer against the combined might of Blackspace, at least... unless the Dreamer succumbs and brings all of his power into the Guardian. The Dreamer is weakened, his mental fortitude melted into frozen taffy after being alone for so long. He cannot survive against such a debilitating truth, and so he relies on a facade to hide it away.
i think it's because considering the fact that real basil died in the real world and dream basil was ok and breathing at the end of your dream, so that means it's sign that real basil will die and dream basil will live that's dark even if it's a dark game the hikkomori end dream and the ending itself is darker way more darker 0_0.
@@IvanezRus I mean ya but I think Mari gave up hope for sunny and left the dream world cause when sunny moved the world between the main world disconnect and sunny gave up and I don’t know what else to think about but that’s a small theory of mine so ya
throughout my playthrough of the hikkiomori route, the most disturbing part to me was looking into the mirror (at Sunny's house), and seeing omori. i know it's like that because Sunny chose to hide the truth, living his fake life in his dreamworld, and worsening everything, but it always gives me chills. its so sad, and just terrifying. omori's face staring you dead into the eyes is just- bone-chilling.
Ok, so I think most people get this, but just to clarify for anyone who is confused - *Basil is not saved in this ending.* As you would know from going for the true ending, the shadow of Basil (The Stranger) is a representation of the real Basil trying to lead Omori to the truth, but he appears only as a shadow because Omori's subconscious tries to repress him and keep him banished to Black Space so that he can continue to deny the truth. The Basil he saves here is the younger basil he remembers, and he saves him by defeating the shadow of Basil that tried to lead him to the truth, essentially meaning all he has done is finalised his complete denial of what happened and decided to continue living as if Basil is still his usual self - meanwhile in reality, you would all know from the neutral endings, Basil stabs himself not being able to face his guilt for what happened alone. In fact this ending is especially sad considering that when you wake up and look in the mirror, you aren't Sunny anymore, you have become Omori; and again, the true ending shows that Omori is the part of himself that both wants to hide the truth and harbours his suicidal thoughts
@@doublechindoge7 well that’s mostly because they are taking this video out of the context of the game. Unfortunately, I haven’t uploaded the full let’s play.
Uh in the true ending Sunny tells the truth and Basil can finally let go of his guilt. Basil never hangs himself in any of the endings but he does stab himself neutral endings
I just realized, we only see 3 days in Sunny’s mind in OMORI. Can you imagine how many times something like this has happened to him throughout those years? Also we know he’s used to this because Sunny wakes up completely unfazed.
Yeah, but the narrative of this game starts at a pivotal point in Sunny’s life: he’s moving away. (From his perspective,) It’s his *last chance* to reconnect with his friends, including Kel who has been actively trying to hang out with him for months. It’s his last chance to make things right, to finally give them closure, to tell them the truth. But in this route, Sunny (figuratively and literally) slams the door on that opportunity, because (in the words of Stranger himself,) he was too much of a coward. For a while he tries to pretend that everything is normal, but the guilt of his actions and cowardice completely overwhelm him, resulting in the altercation shown in this video. The thought of even being Sunny was too painful for him. In Headspace, everything can be perfect. Reality has to be the same. Because his mental state was already incredibly fragile, this guilt quite literally sends Sunny into what I can only call psychosis. Surely these such incidents have happened in the past, but this is different: I don’t think any of them were to this degree of mental derangement.
At 8:35 Basil carrying Omori up the stairs is a very dark, clever move made by the developers. Seriously, I did a double take after reading those lines
Oh right Mari ........ Also *something* i noticed if you go through the game files you can red a description for the truth album there is this one line "she feels lighter than you think" it appears in any photo in which you carry Mari up and down the stairs and basil did say you are so *heavy* is this a foreshadowing to basil (dream) experienced the truth too , carring mari down the stairs , and in comparison to Mari's body wheight , he always thought that sun err.... Omori was the lighter of the two. But then his memories were deleted .
The motif at 11:35 made me cry significantly more than Final Duet, surprisingly. For me, that's really when it just... set in. It was of the most disturbing moments in this game for me, despite how bright and colorful it looks. And even then, there's a sinister, underlying feeling, knowing the truth of headspace and what will happen to the kids in the real world, and I think the music conveys that perfectly. Even if you don't know the context behind the scene, the music still feels off and unsettling, despite how it's not inherently scary. And hearing the motif that meant so much in the main route- as if reminding you what Sunny has abandoned, surrounded by his sleeping friends who are all suffering in the real world because of his mistake... I just broke down. I had to take a breather afterwards.
Well this scene sure is disturbing but nothing can make me bawl harder than the duet. This ending is just sad and messed up, whereas final duet is so pure and cathartic. It cleanses my soul by turning my eyes into waterfalls every time
The worst part is the absolute mood whiplash in-between the creepy first part of saving basil and confronting the shadow, then "oh yay everything's good again" back to sunny, waking up in his bed with that expression in his face.. Sunny? That's not Sunny.
Sunny becomes SO close to remembering the truth countless times in the Hikko route… but he just barely escapes facing it again multiple times. Even in the Mari fight (Console-exclusive content) he becomes very close to remembering the truth when Mari turns into a hanging body
After playing the hikikomori route Everytime I hear the music at 10:30 I'm just.. very disturbed. The worst part is the end of the song where part of the final duet plays
Even with a lot other known scarier/disturbing tracks in OMORI, that track just feels insulting and disturbing at the same time. In my opinion, it sounds like the opposite of a “safe” place.
I've now realized that when Omori sleeps at the room, the reason Sunny sees omori in the mirror is literaly because Sunny/Omori finally detached themselves from reality, believing that the real life they're living is their nightmare/dream in their sleep. They believe that the real world now is the dream they are having on headspace. Something following them is indication of that. Since now that real "life" is a "dream", blackspace now manifests in real life as true hallucinations, since they no longer have a place in "dreams". (Or thats my theory, I suppose.)
“There’s no such things in the world as absolute reality. Most what they call real is actually fiction. What you think you see is only as real as your brain tell you it is.” -Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid
In the three days that Sunny is left at home he only eats one steak… In my normal route, when they mentioned how skinny he was on the second day I felt so guilty that I forgot to feed him
Are you sure that’s true? Pretty sure that hero cooks him breakfast on day 3. Plus he has dinner at Basil’s house on the first night. Sure he hasn’t been eating much but I don’t think it’s accurate to say he’s only had one steak.
For Hero’s breakfast Kel eats the majority of it and we get interrupted by Kim knocking on the door so he skips it Still, I think you’re absolutely right. I completely forgot about Dinner at Basil’s house and I guess it’s also implied he eats at the dinner party on day 3 after they cook everything
Then after a few minutes sunny purges the steak anyway because it wasn't even heated up and it was probably rotten, the electricity was off so the refrigerator and microwave weren't even working, he was hallucinating. Like, no wonder the poor thing fainted, he's scarily malnurtured. If he doesn't die from the guilt getting to him he'll die from his eating habits.
@@DipolarApathySince you have so much freedom on the normal route, It’s safe to say he eats at some point throughout the day. Otherwise he would not have the energy to run around town and fight people
I really like how this mirrors the Basil boss fight in the Sunny Route. They are both the catalyst for either truth or denial and a means to an end of the game. I also like how no matter what you do, you don’t really have much control over the final battle.
im actually curious if you can visit basil without hanging out before all that and have a knife. and like stab yourself while standing near him d be fun if he had a reaction to that or smth
4:45 is super interesting to me, cuz of course we know the true implications of that line in the true route, but with you naming yourself Omocat, it sounds like Basil is a dissatisfied Kickstarter backer behind Omori lol. And seeing as Omocat kind of sees a bit of herself in Sunny/Omori to the point that there's an achievement for calling yourself Omocat, I wonder if that part was intentional too?
in the truth album, when sunny is leaving the backyard he turns to look at basil whose “eyes are now wide awake and staring at something.” it makes me wonder if stranger’s pale white eyes are in reference to that.
(spoilers for OMORI) One of the scariest parts of this game for me was the different title screens. I ended up having to quit before the final OMORI fight in the true ending, and the title screen was different when I came back to play. It caught me completely off guard and kept me on my toes for the rest of the game
Did he even take a bite out of that frozen steak? It sounds like he tried to cut it scraping his knife and fork around and failed. And it doesn’t go away so... yeah.
Sorry to break it up for you Basil dies in this route The sirens can be heard at the end which indicate his death It's really unfortunate and quite disturbing
Im sorry but i was laughong my ass off watching sunny crawl up them stairs. I kinda imagined the sounds of him smaling hos hands on the stairs and it was soo funny
also i was laughing at basil carrying omori up the stairs cause when it revealed him laying on the floor i honestly though he was getting revenge and pushed hin down the stairs.
I think it would be interesting to play game as basil, we could see how eas he dealing with his trauma, if he had gis own dream world or something like that
@@totallyjokers It's been confirmed Basil doesn't have a white space... Though, if anyone else does, or if anyone else has a headspace, it doesn't seem to be confirmed
Now the question becomes..how will Omori interact with the real world? It’s not the dream world, so he has no power here, but damn would it be interesting to see his friends stumble upon this new, seemingly emotionless sunny.
@@Lonewulf321 that’s random, and no. But I know he always moves away, removing the chance for them to meet. Buut, this seems like the only ending where Omori takes control and DOESN’T immediately Oyasumi.
@@glitchydoll it’s not really random actually, beating the game on this route pretty much answers your question sadly. Omori can’t really interact with the real world since the only thing you can do is suicide The only ending is the generic bad ending
@@Lonewulf321 You..missed the entire point. My question, was how he would interact. Because in this particular route, he doesn’t immediately throw himself off a building or stab himself. He moves. I’m not talking about, in the game. I already know there’s absolutely no routes where Omori does anything remotely interesting in the real world. I’m talking about in theory, when he finishes moving, what will he do? Will he immediately gut himself like a fish? Throw himself into the road? Or would he shuffle through each day? Because if it’s the shuffling, and one day his friends come to visit him, how will they respond?
I couldn't help but imagine Basil's voice screaming out to Sunny during that final moment when Omori was about to go to bed, faintly hearing his voice begging him to wake up, maybe even the spirit of Mari's voice too.
Omori spoilers ahead! I think that the "stranger" is either realworld basil or realworld basil's something, they both have the same eyes, something, etc, which makes a slight connection between the both, and yes, we're discovering more things day by day.
i think stranger is blackspace basil/ sunny's mild hatred for basil. basil frequently uses the dialogue that he was "split into to two" when sunny dreams, and basil is seen in two forms in sunny's head. one scary pitch black version which resides in blackspace and one cute colorful version that resides in headspace. i think its bc sunny has conflicting feelings abt basil, one that still cherishes him (which is why he's still in headspace, cute and colorful) and one that despises him for being associated with mari's death (stranger or "???" with white eyes), which split on the day he killed mari.
my interpretation is that STRANGER is specifically BASIL from the moment that MARI died up until they hung her body there are datamined descriptions for the photo album of the truth which imply that SUNNY didn't even know that BASIL was there with him, he just heard a voice behind him but didn't know who it was. i think that STRANGER was created from that voice it also creates an interesting parallel between SUNNY and BASIL's perspectives on that moment - BASIL doesn't believe that SUNNY would kill MARI and so BASIL blames it on "something behind him" - likewise, SUNNY doesn't believe that BASIL would come up with such a messed up plan to stage a hanging, so SUNNY blames it on a "STRANGER", refusing to believe it could have actually been BASIL that's just my interpretation though
@@starfallsapphic I think you're precisely correct. one of stranger's lines in blackspace says something along the lines of him being "split in half" on "the day you became nothing". the way I imagine sunny dreams of his friends is that he "uploads" all the memories he has with them into the dream and plays with them, but in basil's case specifically, those memories include those of the day of the incident, so he "splits basil in two", one half being the dream basil from headspace with all the happy memories and the other being the stranger in blackspace that told him to hang his sister
Even though I got the good ending... I cannot move on... Neither I have it in myself to play it again. The experience was AMAZING but yea... People like me should strictly abide by the warning at the beginning... SPOILER AHEAD and long boring comment... If you do end up reading... Thank you ! ^-^ I'm greatly satisfied with how SUNNY came in terms with the truth and allowed to forgive himself and reveal the truth... But I'm still stuck at what SUNNY & BASIL had to go through... What they did was absolutely wrong but they were 12 y/o.. Still learning... Trying to cover up simple mistake turned to something this grave without a notice... BASIL could've turned against SUNNY and revealed the truth but he believed that his best friend couldn't do that to person they all loved....They both rejected what had actually happened... They tortured themselves enough... trying to stay in their comfort zone has what destroyed them... True horror... Losing a loved one is never easy... But they were involved... They hate themselves, are guilty, tormenting themselves, trying to delete the memory out of their brain... No justification for crime but imagining myself in their state... Pushing off my sibling because I'm agitated from heated conversation, but that ended up killing my sibling when I never planned to, immediately feeling guilty for hurting them... Desperately hoping that they are alive but coming into terms with their death and not knowing what to do next so first thing that comes to mind is make it look like a suicide because I can never kill a person I love and my best friend believes it too ! It was something behind me that did it not me ! So involved with your guilt that you cannot properly grieve over loss and move on... slowly losing normal human emotions... It may go deeper than my perception but just thinking about it haunts my dream... I couldn't sleep well for 3 days after completion of game and this is 4th day..... I'm not yet ready for other endings yet I'm here torturing myself... I have a older sibling, I don't show it but I do love him and care for him... When I was kid (11/12 y/o) I hurt my brother so bad that he started bleeding... I felt so bad that I secretly hurt myself and I still have the scar... That was the last time I ever raised hand on him or anyone, I used to hurt myself but I eventually got better..... I did hurt him severely when I was 6 or so but back then I was apathetic, didn't know that they don't twitch or scream in pain for show, they actually feel pain....
@@Lonewulf321 like i would rather go insane than visit one cuz of shitty healthcare in my country. like i don't wanna be stuck in the mental hospital for the rest of my life
I wanted to anybody answer my question. Everything happened exactly as shown in this video except for one thing: in the Neighbor's Bedroom, instead of having all my friends sleeping in their beds, there was only one bed for Basil and Omori. Could anyone explain the reason for this?
@@Osiris2994 no, the abyss is part of the deep well , it's the layer above black space It also serves as a prison, so it makes sense she wouldn't be able to leave
