With an emphasis on performance more than lecturing, Brian Cutler Actors Studio [Burbank, CA] has refined a teaching process that trains actors to get out, smash the audition, and get the role. Simplicity is the key and creating working professionals in film and television is the goal. Never cold or intimidating, the learning environment is intimate, unpredictable, and tuned to cultivate spontaneous and instinctive creativity. More than joining a class, students at the Brian Cutler Actors Studio become a part of a network. The studio serves as a family away from family, and the teachers are one element of a dynamic support system. It’s about basic instinct and authentic moments. It’s about unrestricted, on-camera organic performance. It’s about getting the job and living as a professional actor in the real world. Most of all, the Brian Cutler Actors Studio is all about the students. In-person and Zoom classes available.

Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Great scene by both actors. It's so wonderful when an actor simply unchains his emotions. Such an enormous difference in Blake's performances.

What I like about this class (first time seeing it) is that Mr. Cutler critiques and then the actors get another take. Typical acting classes just give us the one chance, which is nothing like being on set at all. How many times have any of you done a scene in a class, with just one run through, and gone home and thought about how you would have done it differently? I understand the time limitations, but demonstrating the difference between one take and the next is valuable to the students observing as well. I like this approach a lot.

These are amazing videos this channel is providing. The behind the scenes of these classes are so helpful to people I'm sure. I like voice acting more than acting in person but this type of acting is still helpful to see and study.

Wow what a cool perspective about constructive criticism! I love that. My first thought upon hearing that was "i wonder what it would have been like if i had teachers with that mindset growing up." I'm an adult now so i have the freedom to seek those teachers on my own :)

The second take the kid was in his head… seems like he was scared to feel the emotions that his character was going through. But they were there stifled by his hesitancy..he ended at the emotional space I would’ve like to see him start at and then go from there… I’m looking forward to seeing this kids growth as once he gets more comfortable With being vulnerable he’ll have a deep well of emotions. Good job.

At 5:18, Brian tells the young actor "not one 'upbring' tonight, not one." What does this mean? Not sure if closed captioning is wrong and he's saying something else.
@filmcourage
@filmcourage 2 года назад
Hi Branden, we think there was an error with the transcript. We think he is actually saying 'up read.' Please forgive us as we are not quite sure what he means in this instance. We have some guesses but perhaps there will be someone else who can clarify.

@@brandentaylorfilms Yes, Branden, the word was "upread". When Blake first began at the studio Brian would admonish him for making a lot of his statements sound like questions. Fortunately, Blake was persistent in working on this and he was able to overcome this habit. Hope that helps answer your question.

Why is John staring at him even after the director says cut
@BrianCutlerActorsStudio
@BrianCutlerActorsStudio Год назад
Paloma, sometimes, even after the director says cut he/she may find something that you did that they can use in another shot. A reaction. A moment. It's also possible that John was so involved in his work that the "cut" didn't sink in at the moment.

Im 27M from the UK and I’ve been classically trained in a drama school but the thing I want to work on most is one, being more open and vulnerable and two, not fabricating or planning reactions to things how do manage to open up more successfully and secondly how do I get into a headspace where my reactions are almost automatic as opposed to thinking and planning? I’m also interesting in continuing to study. Thanks

You need to be careful. Putting yourself through so much pain/ emotional stress on a regular basis at such a young a age seems harmful in my opinion. There should be a safety net if not already in place.

Acting IS a way of connecting with those emotions in a safe space...
@krystalwhiteside4227

an actor should never got to a place they haven't healed from emotionally. an actor should find their want in the scene first than understand their emotions to drive the scene.
