Jeenie, I so much want to believe that someone like you exists in the profession of flight attendance, but my experience along with my special needs little daughter has been so different in the past couple of years. I travel for her treatment and therapies frequently within my country and I have had the worst of experiences both from the passengers and flight attendants to the extent that it pains me and leaves me with anxiety before a flight. I wish I could have someone like you as a flight attendant in my flight 🙂
In class we have a professor lecture us on the different cultures and backgrounds. She keeps referring it to "Chinese new year" when it's not just Chinese new year it's also Vietnamese new year too. Correct term is Lunar new year. But when she was corrected, her ignorance took over and said she google it and google said its "Chinese new year" 🙄. I honestly don't know where my university find these professors.
Yes, but the lunar new year celebrated by China, Vietnam and similar East Asian cultures are not the only lunar new year, nor are all of them celebrated in the same Jan-Feb window. It is equally presumptuous to take one's own new year celebration defined by a lunar calendar and call it "Lunar New Year" when other cultures celebrate lunar new years defined by different calendars and often at different times of the year.
it depends on the culture celebrating it. if you're talking to a Chinese person it's called spring festival, but there are other cultures that call it something else. so for anyone else, there's really no right answer aside from learning all the correct names and using them appropriately when speaking to different people. maybe i'll just stick with merry christmas and piss off everyone equally :)
