QD: The ASICS Novablast is my choice for long runs (currently 15-18 miles). Great cushioning and enough response for random strides. I’ve already got a new pair lined up. With that said, I am looking forward to the Saucony Triumph 20 for the same.

I haven't ever run in On before these, I normally run in Hoka Carbon X or Rocket X and I have to tell you, for someone like me who does long course triathlon and is 6ft 190lbs range, these are fantastic. The amount of return that I get every step is like nothing I have ever run in before. Running shoes are really personal and personally I really like these. I would give them a solid 8.5.

Fully agree with your comments: being a Swiss I have supported On since day one. But the durability; weight and price for a running shoe does not add up. Too many other great shoe brands around. Ons target market has changed to more casual wear where people are willing to pay premium for a good looking shoe. That is why their growth rate has been so phenomenal.

Another Swiss guy that agrees. Scott is in my opinion the Swiss brand to look at for shoe (but not only). Thanks for the honest review.

@@iko6324 no. I have 3 pair . 2 I purchased and one was a gift. They don’t last as long as their competitors. Especially after daily use. I’m a pe teacher and don’t put them though the grind of a daily runner but even still they get worn down relatively easy. Even after a solid clean they still look very worn . I have both the Speeds and Cloudmonster, and though I’ve barely put a few miles on the Cloudmonster I’m quite excited about my initial impressions. And for me personally, the outsole on the Speed wears though prematurely in a spot on the lateral side about 1.5” forward from the heel where most people touch down before their full foot strike (before midfoot landing in my case) except when running fast paces. I get some wear there on all my shoes but nothing close to as early as in the Speeds so that’s a costly inconvenience that’s forced me to save them for racing only. The ON's are a very different shoe but it’s worth checking them out.

@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Thanks for your answer regardingyour experiences with the shoes. Really interesting that you are mentioning durability issues with the speeds as some people i know say that they notice minimal wear with the speeds, but i will def. keep that in mind, if i think about buying them. I only have some test experience in the shoes, as i still have my kinvaras and launches for now. the on is really interesting as i had a cloudflow years ago which i really enjoyed for its super stiff ride, but the sole was beaten up to fast and the rocks in the soles were getting really annoying....but i will look into the monster now, when the time for new shoes comes ;) Also congrats on your marathon, ive completely forgotten about that in my first message sorry!....

@@swigswag1639 I know most people don’t have the issue I have with the outsole patch in the Speed but there’s a significant number who have said they do. It must exaggerate the lateral touch down in some of us but I’d start by assuming you wouldn’t have that complaint. It’s the only shoe that does that for me….go figure! They seem to have modified the clouds/central groove design since the Cloudflow I had yrs ago so that it doesn’t collect stones very easily. I didn’t get any so far. There are other brands that now make center cutouts in the midsole to save weight which could collect debris too. Thanks for your reply!

Hey Seth, thanks for the review. Something I've noticed when you mention price on the channel is that there is a lack of research/consideration that goes into WHY the shoes are more expensive. Now, I'm not an ON fanboy, as I really think they've only started making shoes that actually perform just recently. But, I do try to approach running from a sustainability and ethics perspective insofar as I want to do as little damage and as much good with my gear consumption. In that regard, ON is miles ahead of the competition, as they're the only major shoe producer that owns their own factories and can assure decent working conditions and wages for their workers and have also been pushing materials sustainability much before other big brands joined the train, most often in some kind of token way (you know who you are). Surely, this is something we can all get on board with, right?

QD: I still use the Nike Tempo Next% and Saucony Endorphin Speed 1 for my weekly longruns at any type of pace. It's so satisfying and the legs feel great the day after. Great channel, I have watched it for years. My current long run shoe for the road is the Hoka Clifton. I first tried the 6, then 7 and loved them. For trail I have two that I love. The first is the Speedgoat 4/5 and the second is the La Sportiva Mutant. While not as cushioned as the speedgoat 4, they offer superior grip (on absolutely everything, including smooth wet rocks) and a better toe bumper. The bumper on the speedgoat 4 is next to non existent. Excellent channel and love your honesty, keep them coming Seth!

Hi Seth, great video and I completely agree. I been an ON fan for years now, my issue with them was always durability and cost. I currently run in cloud monster as i have wide feet with high arches and high instep and i benefit greatly from massive toe box and build of this shoe. I just can’t justify spending $170 monthly as my sole is already coming apart (those black rubber pieces).

Interesting note about On's price points is that although they're certainly high, they sell surprisingly well. Currently in my local fleet feet they are the #3 selling brand behind only Hoka and Brooks. Other brands we carry include New Balance, Saucony, Asics, Altra, Mizuno, Karhu, Diadora, and a few more.

My local store just started pushing On pretty heavily. I was able to test the CloudMonster at a demo night and pretty much had the same thoughts as Seth exactly. Even on the short demo I got a blister from the upper material creasing and hitting my pinky toe. Even if they tweak out the issues they still need to come way down in price for me. I do see a lot of people wearing them casually however... so who knows.

I also work in a fleet feet and we’re in the same boat. I will say that’s largely due to our clientele, rich people wanting a shoe they can run and go to brunch in, but I oddly have some people prefer ons when they like a firmer feel because of the nice fitting uppers. Lifelong kinvara wearers have been switching to the Cloudflow and others

Completely agree regarding ON. I'm a product testers for them here in Switzerland, and I do think they're super comfy. Aside from the hitchhiker hazard potential, I always give the same feedback when asked if I would buy my test shoes. Answer: No, b/c weight + price. Too much for too much: Simple. Now, to be fair, the "floor" economically here is very high. Also, I'd be very interested to know how external clouds might combine with the "super-critical" bubbles craze at-moment!

My preferred choice for long runs is Glideride. I have the original version. Got it on sale for less than 50EUR. What a great deal and the shoe is so comfy! The only serious drawback for me is that the ride is very slippery on wet surfaces. I was surprised when I came across this issue because reviewers seemed to be happy with the grip. But maybe I am just spoiled by Continental ;) I any case, I do not wear it whenever it rains.

I just don't know how I feel about these yet, they look awesome and feel great, but once I get past the 3 mile mark on each of my runs with these my feet just start killing me.

I had an older pair of ON runners. Rocks always got stuck in the sole. They became my yard shoes for working outside. I have mulch around my perennials and even mulch would get stuck in my shoes. I’ve sworn never to wear this brand again.

As a 2-3 mile a day concrete/pavement runner I really don't care about weight its impact reduction and roll from heel to toe that matters to me. Infact I welcome additional weight/resistance. My go to shoe for years has been the On Cloudace and rumor has it this cloudmonter is set to replace it and that breaks my heart. It seems On has gone the way of fashion over function.

How’s the sizing? I’ve heard to get half size down

My only problem is that they wear down way too fast for the price point. New balances and a few pair of hokas last years even with daily use. The support after daily use doesn’t make the brand worth it in my eyes. Nordstroms moms with a $10 ice coffee and a micro Yorkie in the other hand love them though
