Um, intersectionality is not something that has "pro" or "con" people if they actually understand it. It is a statement of fact. If you are a Black woman, your identity is intersectional based on your race and gender. Now if you want to talk about being pro / anti woman or pro / anti Black, that's different.

Well, I know y'all don't see it like this but the point of this video is intersectionality and feminism as the title implies. In case you don't understand intersectionality, it is when an individual posses two or more identities that are targets of oppression. For example, one who is female identified and black, female identified/latina(o)/LGBTQIA+, or male identified and gay etc. this list will go on forever. So she's trying to bring to the fact that white non-male identified white individuals more often are heard than minority non-male identified individuals which definitely needs to change. We should be speaking for all of us as a sex not just those in our race.

I think it's reductive to say "respect me because I'm a person" because honestly it neglects the tumultuous history of women, or black women or both. Why is it easier to be a person than a woman? Because I don't define a person by what's between their legs or a part of their anatomy. I don't think how a person is physically structured has anything to do with whether or not they bleed real blood, or feel real feelings in a humanistic, psychological manner. You say, "because honestly it neglects the tumultuous history of women". Not at all. It's a perspective that's based on separating anatomy from gender roles. The tumultuous history of women that you're referring to is a blanket statement that has to do with people who abused others who they perceived to be women, and in some cases, because they perceived them to be women. That has nothing to do with women needing to stand up against violence against women being a necessity. Those are two different things. If someone wants to hate on me because they don't like a social construct of how THEY define "woman" in THEIR minds, then that's their business. But I don't define myself by my genitalia. That's on them, not me. And I think that's based on an inherent flaw across mainstream society in general. I could further qualify what I'm trying to say by the following: A person cannot "dress like a woman" or "dress like a man" because there is no article of clothing that is inherently for a person with a vagina or inherently for a person with a penis. For example, a skirt is a piece of cloth that is shaped like a thing we call "skirt". That has nothing to do with who is hanging that article of clothing on their body. Usually when people say, "i hate it when women do xyz thing", what they're really talking about is perceived *gender roles*, not gender/anatomy. When someone says to me, "As a woman, it offends me that xyz thing", that statement is inherently flawed, because it's based on the premise that their anatomy (having a vagina) has anything to do with gender roles. What would be more appropriate to say is, "As a perceived woman, it offends me that xyz thing". This kind of statement would then really only be applicable when referring to what other people have done with information having to do with the gender role perceptions THEY have in their mind, and what they choose to do with that information. That maltreatment by no means indicates that a group of people who happen to share the same anatomy should rise up and unite because they happen to share that same anatomy. It should be because no one who falls prey to the mistreatment associated with those gender roles that other people have in their mind should not be mistreated, and that NO ONE should be mistreated because of any gender role period.

To make a point to talk about the gender roles associated with that particular anatomy is only reenforcing those shitty gender roles in the first place.

But that does not mean we (in the Western world generally, I'm personally from Germany) do not have problems that need fixing. And surprisingly we are far away from equality. Just because other countries are further away does not mean we are close to it. Oppression is not a competition and should not be treated as such. Just because women in our countries are closer to being equal does not mean they are not mistreated. Just because gay people aren't executed in our countries doesn't mean they are not mistreated. Minorities in the Western world may be closer to equality than in other parts of the world, but there are still a lot of problems that need to be fixed.

I don't think peoples reactions (agreeing or disagreeing) to a video measures equality. I would personally use something that could be actually measured.
