Hi Pat, Im currently living in Onnut and I can see how fast it changed since this video! you should come back again. Condos are already built, no more noise, nice food markets, and it's so convenient to live there. I don't think there is so many places in Bangkok which have BTS, 3 malls with cinema, street food, restaurant, night life, bars, river, coffee places, all within 5min walk... with a direct access to highway.

I'm going to onnut and will look for a short term rental there and go gym and work remotely. If you could tip me in any direction would be awesome. For now I booked a hotel for 3 nights in the area, then I will look for a condo.

Pat - Yes. I remember when On Nut was a remote stop way out there at the end of the BTS line. But now I find myself going not that far out there searching for scarce street food since they gave the streets and sidewalks "Back to the People" around Nana and Asoke. I think you have a very interesting and informative RU-vid channel. Also noticed that the views you're getting are outnumbering your subscribers. Not sure if you're interested, but maybe this could be helpful to you in growing your RU-vid base. I think Onnut is pretty good area for these reasons: two huge grocery stores right next to the BTS, tons of places to easily get local and western food in the area, best beef buffet, outside eating/drinking area next to BTS, some chill bars nearby, often a lot of girls who like to date expats live in this area, and gyms, especially for doing Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu. Also, you can rent a newer studio or maybe 1 bedroom condo here for as little as 10k to 12k baht a month. The bad part is that it's crowd with locals and expats alike and not as hip or close to the center as the other BTS stops like Ekkamai, Thong lo, Phrom Phong, and Asok.

You are completely wrong about that. Bangkok is basically a garbage pit. The Chao Praya River is brown with sewage and dead fish and motor oil,; the canals are in fact polluted with industrial runoff and human waste; the slums and homeless areas - like abandoned construction sites where funding fell through so the investors took their billions and went bankrupt - are inhabited by rats and poor people, drugs addicts and thieves. The air? People smoke cigarettes in order to filter out some of the pollution in the air. This guy is showing you a special area of Bangkok where rich foreigners live

In my opinion, On Nut BTS station being the last station back in the days really gave On Nut area real opportunity to grow economically but noise and crowd can be overwhelming. The condos near Digital Park area just two stations down (Punawithee) is definitely less crowded with all the restaurants/ 7-11. The fruit price in Bang Chak area is so much cheaper than Thong Lo :D

Nice job Pat! Great to see brothers in arms finally cover my hood. Some cracking shots of OnNut and nice balance overall. My reasons for choosing Onnut as a newcomer to BKK, are.. a modern well priced condo, 3 mins walk to bts. 3 supermarkets, 2 beer gardens (u missed one just down the road from the one u visited, they play live music in there), a modern shopping mall with a cinema and plenty of western outlets, the bars on soi 50, the great street food on soi 77, all within 5 mins walk! And a local vibe where no one ever tries to sell me anything or treat me like a tourist, which can't be said for living more "downtown". Constant hive of activity, never a quiet moment. Sanriri and habbito also a nice quietish oasis 10 mins walk away..but u are right on the wall of noise, its relentless, probably get less decibels living on an airport runway at times lol. Loving the football shots and poor Chris waddle impression from world cup 90 mate. What a player by the way, one of best England's ever produced. Cheers. Hope to catch u again soon.

This is my old neighborhood and one of the reasons I chose this area was the access to the highway of which there are two, so for people that need to get to the airport it takes approximately 22 minutes which is quite easy on the expressway and the same thing when you're returning from the airport it's easy to get to this area. If you need to go south towards Pattaya very quick and if you need to go north you jump on the highway through one toll and you end up near ayutaya. So for business travelers it's an excellent place to live. My condo is approximately 1 km from the Tesco and we had shuttle service and I had a scooter which I could park at the lotus for an indefinite period of time at no charge. The beauty of our condo was it was super quiet and you talked about a view well I had one of the best views in Bangkok. Just a heads up my condo is for sale as I'm living in the countryside in Isan now. Well documented Video

I have a condo at the Ramada Sukhumvit 48, spend time between there and the country. It’s actually 2 buildings, the smaller front one has a restaurant and coffee shop and will become a small hotel, the larger back building is the condo units. I chose their because of the easy access from the highway and the closeness to eateries and the BTS. Will do some more exploring after seeing your video, by the way the hamburger place right across cheap Charlie’s is one of the best kept secret if you like hamburgers.

I lived in the T77 community for most of 2021, and enjoyed it. My gripe here is the pricing of drinks/food/services. It's almost Asok/Nana levels for eating and drinking, but just one stop either way on the BTS to Prakhanong or Bang chak/Punawitthi and things get back to what they should be. Feels like a bit of a stealth tax for the residents of the "luxury" condos in the area. Still, loved my year there, great areas to explore if you don't mind a bit of sweat and grime.

Pat, You are a cornucopia of useful information and you present it with style and Grace. It really is exhausting to see the work you put into a video. I moved to Sukhumvit/On Nut to be around more English-speaking Thais and Farang Friendly restaurants from 2017 to 2019 and when I returned after two years of Covid Drama, settled down on 77. You are right Mate, noise galore and the walk from The Base 77 to On Nut BTS can be a nightmare but I just love the diversity and convenience. Definitely, quieter places to live in Bkk but it is never dull. Thank you for exposing places I never knew existed in the Hood.

Its where I go for finding Thai products at Lotus. From Ramkamhaeng, just use the tollway, exit at Sukhumvit 50 then park at either Lotus or Big C. Very busy intersection. Parking at Lotus can be pricey if you park more than 4 hours. Sukhumvit 77/1 has many massage shops where local Thais visit with tourists also and the price is lower.

Thank you for this video Pat, it reminded me of the very happy 3 years I spent living at Ideo Verve On Nut & was especially great to see my old "Have a quiet beer" haunt at the little food square downstairs (I didn't see it in your video but the owner, who used to come chat with us most nights, opened a new place just down the road on the corner of Soi 79 which is very nice as well)... Great place to live if you want to live in Bangkok but outside of the city center, If I ever move back then I know where I'll be living (most probably back at Ideo Verve)... Where else can you have a Shopping Center, Cinema & 3 supermarkets (Lotus's, Big C & Tops) on your doorstep whilst being a few BTS stops away from the CIty Center (+ 1 stop away from Phra Khanong with all of the W-District's food offerings). Unfortunately after 3 years there we decided that we wanted a change (mainly due to Covid making everybody feel stir crazy) so we decided to move to the beach (Wongamat, Pattaya way) but I still miss On Nut & just being able to pop downstairs for a couple of beers in the madness that is Bangkok :)

I've been to that neighbourhood a few times to cat-sit🐈 for some friends and I always love exploring in there. It's amazing how when you're 'inside' where the buildings are, and the Sansiri garden, you're really in a peaceful haven. Whenever you go to the BTS station, however, it's massive sensory overload. BUT that's what we love about Bangkok. 😄 Would you be willing to do a video on my neighbourhood - Muangthong/Impact/Chaengwattana? It has the pink like being constructed now, and this will run from one end of Chaengwattana, all the way down Ram Intra, all the way to Minburi. There's also those tall half-completed towers that were just left during the '90's recession. There's an abandoned hotel lakeside, which now has vegetation growing out of it. I can't remember its full name, but I can easily look it up and send it to you.

I have lived in the On Nut area for a couple of years during the mid 90's, so I was thrilled to see that there is a Bangkok Pat video on the area. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. Especially, as it covers the area off main Sukhumvit and most recent developments there. Honestly, however, I would have loved a bit more coverage of the actual On Nut Road (Sukhumvit Soi 77). That, probably, is because I am particularly fond of your ghost stories and On Nut is where the bonafide, classic Thai ghost story plays. Just off Soi 77 there is Wat Mahabut and the shrine of Mae Nak. I am sure you've heard the story or even seen the movie about the beautiful young woman (Nak) who died while waiting for her husband to return from war (Mae Nak). Anyway, just a thought and maybe an idea for a "ghost story video" in the future. Keep up the excellent work.

Many sequences are worthy of much longer duration, giving the viewer a lingering experience and continuity to a subsequent lingering sequence. I find myself pausing and rewinding to truly appreciate what you have created. OK if that's your style but I reckon us viewers are not in a rush to get to the end of your presentations. Lots of food and shops etc. Directly opposite Lotus on the BTS station. Soi 50, no good memories.... I got robbed there. Kinda my own fault but still, no good memories... Punnawithi (Soi 101) was actually nice, also next to skytrain but a bit quiter. In my apartment i didnt hear a single car in the night, only birds and insects. Crazy, middles in Bangkok. And the street had everything. Nice food, nice markets, two 7-11, a nice bar (Sports Bar) with live music often, pharmacy and all kinds of things right next to ones doorstep.

Really interesting seeing these outlying areas. Looking at the BTS map earlier I was amazed to see how far north and south it now runs (or will do). It would be curious to see what there is at the new end stations

Atmospheric BKK as I know it. Forget the flashy lights and op nuat massage. This is more like daily life. Not my part of the town so it's great to find an interesting place to visit. Big melons is different, yum yum.

I loved it there. I just kept going back to that area when I was in Bangkok. I absolutely loved the cats outside the police station - there was this little kitten that was so friendly. Barely made a sound, but just snuggled up to me every time I was there.

Which area of BKK do you think most expats (not sexpats) live in Bangkok, would you say On nut is it? Appreciate your efforts and you gained a new subscriber, cheers mate!

I live in W District which is walking distance to Habito Mall and Sansiri. Sansiri has a great house plants nursery and a fancy restaurant nearby. The canal you walk over to get to Beacon place often has beautiful flowers in bloom. I miss the old night market. I love the Tesco food court. I am tempted to visit The Wood Land.

I'm with you on Amway. It is like a kind of cult that makes nice people turn scary. I had friends I had to avoid until they got over their Amway phase. That was way back in the 1970's. I'm surprised it's still around. Thanks so much for this video. It convinced me I'll look for a different area. Too noisy and not pedestrian friendly enough for me. 🙏

For your little Amway phobia, I had the exactly same experience in Hong Kong, only with a Herbalife salesman. This driver kept going about teamwork and motivation stuff and I was in a hurry to get to business meeting. He even secretly (or so as he thought) took a selfie of me and him and sent to his group of friends. Really tired of pestering and I had to get off earlier than I intended.
@iskandartaib

I had a friend (now deceased) who was a Herbalife salesman. Thankfully he didn't try to rope me in very much.. The thing I never could figure out about Amway was - why pay more (a LOT more) money for products that were more or less the same thing that you could get from Wal-Mart?

Had your channel pop up the other day and have now subscribed. I haven't lived in Bangkok or Thailand for a decade now, but when I last did I was on Soi 81. Pretty much just a residential road but if you had gone left at the end where you turned around, just a short distance along across from a school was what was once clearly a beautiful old house that was still lived in but had seen much better days. Could be gone by now.

There is a "Genuine" Thai tailor shop "Sara Tailor" by On Nut BTS that I use. Much cheaper and better quality then those over rated Indian run so called tailor shops on lower Sukumvite that use sweat shops to to make up farang shirt and pants.....By they way another great informative video really look forward to watching your vids whilst sipping on my morning coffee.... great content and dialogue

@@BangkokPat Rear exit when you get off the BTS from downtown sukumvite. If you face the direction of downtown lower sukumvite then its on the right hand side of on nut sukumvite by the rear end exit of the BTS station "suits sara" green front tailor shop.... They only speak Thai, allow two weeks for them to make up a suit. They use canvas in the construction of jackets unlike the Indian tailor shops. As for cloth, For quality, I usually Buy from cloth merchants in Huddersfield UK which have the best UK cloth manufacturers in the UK
