Thank you for not blackfacing it, I love that colder silverface sound.

It does sound fantastic. I don't think there is any reason to mess with an amp that sounds this good.

Nice video....I love the twins...I have two a 71 non master volume and a 74 like this amplifier. ..The Silver Face Fenders in my humble opinion are Fenders best sounding Amplifiers. ...

Just picked up a 74 twin yesterday in a trade and it’s amazing! It has the orange jbls and when u use the master volume boost with a Tele in the middle position it’s the most sparkly and spankin tone around.

I just finally found an old twin after searching for years and it turns out it is an early 1974!!! Minty too!

I’ve got the same amp I bought used around 1976, all original except speakers and filter caps. Great amp other than the weight.

Really enjoy listening to you explain amp guts Scooter. I learn quite a bit, thanks! Also, it sounded quite wonderful and there were lessons to be learned toward the end of the video, really great lessons! You are really ‘The Man’ Scoot!

Tone Driver SS - well, thanks very much for the kind remarks! I appreciate you turning in. I sincerely feel that we are not "owners". We are custodians for the next generation. It is our duty to maintain these fine pieces of American craftsmanship. Kind of leave them better than we found them sort of thing. I love my job and it's truly gratifying to get such positive feedback from somebody who is enjoying me doing what I do.

Great work , super video . Will recommend and have to watch again ! Great respect , and cheers from Eastern Canada !

Very cool. I am still playing through a 1976 Twin Reverb I purchased brand new! To date I've had the Filter Caps replaced 3 times, had it modified to Blackface specs and swapped various speakers in and out of it through the Decades. I've most certainly gotten my $400 (original price) worth out of it! The lack of a PCB and the common sense circuit layout have most certainly been the main contributing factors to this amplifiers longevity. For a young player to spend the extra money now for a quality amp really makes sense. Your future self will thank you!

I've got a 1974 twin reverb that I got from my grandpa, that's been sitting in my mom's garage the last 5 years or so. It's all original. I don't even think the tubes have been changed. The vibrato clicks and I think one of the power tubes is bad, but the thing still sounds amazing!

I had a 1973 just like this about 3 months ago before I sold it. It was mint, never touched, all original and the thing was a hell of an amp.

It’s amazing how it stood up with everything original over the years, which lives up to Made in The USA ( the way American Manufacturing used to be). Buy a product today, and see if it holds up for 10 yrs; Good Luck with that!! Very good video!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks for posting, very interesting to compare with the 1974 Quad Reverb that I just bought and that is 100% original. All valves are RCAs, and it has no brown turds. I guess you already sold it but, yes, that cap you mention has probably been replaced in your one, my one has a blue cap similar to the rest. And no plans of mods or blackfacing my one, just fix hum as you did and a broken pot. Hearing your one convinced me to fix & enjoy it as it is!

I have one this clean. Mine is a 1973, but this one is the spitting image of my amp, inside and out. Except...mine has Jensens not JBL's. Mine was used less than 25 hours since new and is a great amp.

I have the same amp. Had to have the filter caps and tubes replaced. Cyclic "hiss". Mine looks as good except for a cigarette burn on the top.

I too have a '74 Twin. Love it. I am picking up an overhaul kit and I want to know, is this the AA769 circuit? I found a schematic for a '74 Twin MV but I can not find a Layout diagram.

MTB435 - Agreed. I think people get too caught up in what a vintage amp ISN'T and forget to enjoy what it IS.

Only thing that is throwing me is The Orange basket JBL 120s! These were typically fitted as an option around 1977/78. 1974 should be the Grey basket JBL 120s?? Am I wrong?(maybe altzeimers setting!) I remember buying a twin like this one new around 1979 with the Orange basket JBL 120s (Think it came with an optional Fork lift truck to lift it!) but later traded it in for a Musicman 2 x 12 130 amp as James Burton used one! Happy Days!

Do you think it is the jbls that make this one sound so good?

That's not one of the amps with the dreaded bias control on the rear faceplate (stay away from those, same with 70w and 135w models). All of those great Silverfaces can be Blackfaced, even the ones with master volumes.
@GranvilleGuitars
@GranvilleGuitars 4 года назад
Nathan Cirillo - The control you refer to is a Hum Balance. Nothing wrong with it at all. I've never met a "dreaded" Fender in 30 years of working on amplifiers. It all depends on how it's set up and who is playing it.
@freecitizen2760
@freecitizen2760 4 года назад
Granville Guitars : Yes, I was just about to edit that in. Those are the ones that I personally would not want, same with the ones with the ultra-linear power transformers (70w, 135w). There’s good and there’s really good. I enjoyed watching you work. I’m just finishing up a Bassman 100 that I have completely rebuilt. It now has a F.R.E.D. rectifier circuit (fast recovery epitaxial diode). Sounds very fast and solid, super-tight bass.
