It is quite heart warming, after watching these early episodes from Season 1, and so on, where the guys are so nervous, and "raw", in front of the camera, and then watching the later episodes, to see how they have not only became accustomed to the camera "in their faces", but also how they became a great working Team in all the senses of the word. From sharing a drink, to a laugh, to the shear joy of finding even the minutest relic of forgotten History. Love it all.

In some behind the scenes stuff Tony said that professor Mick was at first extremely hesistant to even participate, arguing that he isn't a "camera person" and that he wouldn't know how to talk and how to be funny, but immedieately a few shots into the first episode Tony overheared him saying "Lets try it again and maybe this time from this angle, what do you think?" :D

@@Tom_Quixote Actually, I call them sport nerds all the time. My older brother loves NFL football, and can quote you all kinds of facts and stats from the hundreds of games played over the years. He and I were both in the Army, and I do call him a nerd for his love of football, and antique cars, like he does me for my love of aviation and aviation history. Nothing wrong with being a nerd, it means you've taken time to learn something that others think is too difficult or beneath them.

“who were they afraid of…well not these two” Oh Tony, you joker 🤣 Mick turning a joke into a teaching moment and genuinely catching Tony off guard and in shock is epic and to me was one of his turning points in his career towards history presenting especially as he gave a right guess about the ditch that the others dismissed!

I love how, in the very first episode, Prof. Mick sends the future Sir Tony tearing up a bank with one end of a tape measure, and in an aside to the crew says, "We'll make an archaeologist out of him yet." The banter about the columns is a wonderful example of Sir Tony keeping the energy going by trying to "take the mickey," and turning out to have brought about a teachable moment for Prof. Mick. His spotting of the Roman stonework along with his "untutored eye" picking out the ditch make me wonder if he's a fan of hidden object games.

I'm an Aussie. As a teenager I used to watch time team (before I was 13 we didn't have a Television). My idea of fun back then was researching terms I'd heard on time team at the local library and reading any book I could get my hands on. Got into trouble a few times because I wanted to know stuff that the librarians thought was "too adult" for a 13 year old. My dad had to explain that I had read all the kids books, the young adult books and was nagging him to come to the library to borrow books for me to read.

Watching these episodes does take me back to a different time.... to the days when i had FIRST discovered that RU-vid included a lot of really great programming, and I began eagerly watching dozens of documentary programs, especially on history of various time periods, nearly all of them produced in the UK. Reinforced my sense of inadequacy as an uncultured American, but immensely interesting. Time team was one of my favorites, and I really developed an fond attachment to each of the program’s characters, as more normal people would have done watching Seinfeld, or Cheers, or Friends (which i never did). So thanks for this! Nice to see some episodes i’ve never seen before, and to see the show’s early format, which did change somewhat over the years.

History at my school was boring and unenthusiastic. The teacher Ms Gibbon would plop us all down with a book and made us read that, 1066 was the ONLY focus tho. Always Romulus and Remus building Rome. Thankfully my interest in the past didn't dwindle and I learned and am still learning a lot, every day something new. I'm in my 40's and still hoping to continue learning and pass on that passion.

Why does John keep playing with his beard?
@Libbathegreat

Because he can lol. I would too with such a glorious beard. He does that throughout the series even when it's shorter. I find it quite endearing.

Music is too loud and when they talk, the volume is barely loud enough to hear. These videos are wonderful but could use a bit of sound engineering help, please?

While I agree, the recordings are from 20years ago. Even if the masters survived, I doubt anyone is going to redo the sound mix in order to put them on RU-vid.

One thing for sure if I was there I would ask the Roman soldiers to put on Leopard Skin and the reason is because you see I play the base drum in a pipe and drum band that is named after the famous famous brave and mighty black watch which is a British Canadian and Scottish infantry regiment and its currently the 3rd battalion of the royal regiment of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and you see the leopard skin was used for protecting the uniform and the instruments because like a base drum can be scratched by uniform buttons and the leopard skin is not real leopard skin it’s synthetic fur but also if it’s cold outside the leopard skin is another layer of warmth and like back in the days of the Roman Empire the standard bearers would would wore animal skins over their uniforms.
