Yeah the Evangelical Survey Arianism thing is concerning for sure. I go to a Christian school started by my PCA church and the high school Bible classes are awesome - My 10th grade Bible teacher last year taught us Kingdom Theology and it was super based, and he was always reading NT Wright all the time, so now all my friends, even the freewill Baptist ones are based and Kingdom pilled. However, the middle school Bible Program is very sus. The 6th and 7th grade Bible classes are just vague "Believe in Jesus, bro" type classes or about vague stuff about the Bible, no theology whatsoever, and the 8th grade class isn't really even a Bible class, it's literally just like mental health and how Moses probably had anxiety and weird stuff like that. I was talking to my mom about how they should rework the middle school Bible program to teach the kids basic Christology and Nicene creed type stuff that all denominations would agree on, but she said it might be too complicated for the middle schoolers. (It wouldn't) My mom is basically a Pietist so I wasn't surprised, but I think Pietism is to blame for a lack of Theological education in evangelical circles. They say "just focus on your relationship with God" but my friends who are Theology nerds seem to have the best relationship with God and exhibit the fruits of the Spirit more than my friends who don't really know any Theology. And what Holy Heretic said about the Sunday School teaching kids just Bible stories is 100% true, in my experience. Going into high school I knew 0 Theology but like 99% of Bible Stories. My mom taught me that Predestination is literally "God knows who's going to be saved" so according to her basically every other denomination rejected God's omniscience. So when one day when I was talking to her about Double vs Single predestination years later, she was like "wait, we actually believe that?" (Redeemed Zoomer is RIGHT! Women need to learn Theology so they can teach their children properly!) So now I as a 16 year old dude know more Theology than my mom in her mid-40s, and literally every single person in my 11th grade class (maybe). In Redeemed Zoomer's video "Does everyone need nerdy theology?" he talks about how his college ministry split because they tried to shut down a club within itself that met to discuss nerdy theology every week. The ministry higher-ups compared them to the Pharisees, thinking they would scare people away with Calvinism and whatnot. Basically I think Pietism is a bigger problem than we think and Evangelical churches are creating a bunch of to be honest, kind of dumb lukewarm Christians. People just don't realize how important Theology is to the Christian life. It's not just a bunch of complicated, dry little semantic differences, it's powerful stuff that every Christian should study and think about. My mom and dad didn't even know we spiritually feed on Christ's body and blood in the Eucharist, they just thought he was kind of vaguely spiritually there and it's mostly a symbol, like most PCA laypeople (and pastors unfortunately). I'd like to know that the Eucharist is actually making me more like Christ by spiritually feeding on Him, and not just be blind to it my whole life to only focus on my personal relationship with God. I want to write a book on this now lol...
