My most favorite parts would be Grimaldus’s speech on the walls as well as Grimaldus practically bitching an Imprerator class Titan back to life. But I also enjoyed seeing the tensions between the Black Templars and Salamanders.
The part I'm most looking forward to: I have no idea what to say to the little man. ‘Your friend. Your love. Did you find her?’ I am no judge of human emotion, but I see his smile turn fragile and false. ‘Yes,’ he says. ‘I did find her.’ So much packed into so few sentences.
You got amazing feedback because you produced an amazing product. I just found Helsreach two days ago, and I was floored. By far the best 40K movie I've ever seen, and I've consumed every piece of media the Black Library has produced so far. I was awake for two hours past my bedtime after watching the movie version of the first ten episodes, thinking of stories I'd love to see you bring to a big screen with a real budget. Ciaphas Cain's time with the Reclaimers. The war on Murder. The destruction of Cadia. The Battle for Macragge in the First Tyrannic War. Sigh. Netflix needs to find you yesterday.
Each of the marines finally go down in an very epic manner, it might be nice to watch each one for a few minutes individually as they go through their final moments.
I have not read the book so I am not corrupted by expectations. I look forward to the end and THEN, THEN, the full movie put together. This is awesome.
I don't know if it was intentional or a product of improvement over time, but I absolutely loved the progression of the animation, the hazy lines and the way that things looked like a memory in the beginning and slowly came into greater clarity was beautiful
I was happy to see my favorite chapter make an appearance, it also really emphasized the strain that differing strategies has on different chapters which was really well done and fleshed out. Great work.
Youre a beast man. I loved part 12. The action is going great, make the marines so fast theyre hard to see and itll be even easier for you. That end scene with the salamanders captain and grimaldus staring each other down from the dropship was my favourite. The animation was so smooth and the soundwork was intense. If you want to make the godbreaker as intense as it could be, get a guardsmans perspective. Hes sitting somewhere with his buds and theyre resting trying to recoup and trying to ignore the "shelling" then boom. Half their hidey hole and his buddies are gone, replaced by a massive steel foot. Let it stay there for a sec or two just slowly rising away to reveal the devastation wreaked by the battles. Not even mass orks just all the buildings and shit bombed to fuck, flames and smoke and noise then just cut to something else. But yeah man youre awesome, ill send you $20 on paypal on payday.
Such a fan of your work, Sir. Effort deserves recognition. Well done. The dynamics of the group of Templars is so well done. I’d raise a glass with Bastillan any day. The scene in the Hawk where Grim calls out Nero and the following brothers relay their hurt leading up to Priamus awkwardly forgiving Nero was so powerful. That’s what brotherhood is. Real and true. Thank you for your hard work. It shines through. Complete shot in the dark, would you entertain the idea of spotlighting the Iron Hands one day? Their legacy is devastating.
Dear Richard, are you going to make "Helsreach movie vol.2" or "Helsreach movie complete" sometime after ending the series? Anyway, you are great artist and it's really no enough words to say how much I love and appreciate your work. Thanks for the "Helsreach". The Emperor protects
Great job man! congrats!.. i love the introduce of the imperial guard in visual art... awesome... the joint work before the arrival of the salamanders ... my favorite scene... ps: my faction is Astra Militarum
Just finished the book. Bought it because of your videos. What about the guardian in the tomb? I guess that’s not essential but could be cool. What about the scout titans? Not essential either. What is essential. Grimaldus on the Baneblade and the Templars laughing/taunting. Bastillone, Everyone calling for Nerovar and the Templars bloodlust moment. “No pity, no remorse, no fear. Until the end brothers.”
you know man, i just love this series and i cant wait to see how this ends. every time i watch it i love something else. at first i thought the animation and black and white style was its strongest artistic aspect. then i thought that the way you portrayed the titan with its immense power and scale and mysterious and dangerous vibe was the best aspect. this third time watching everything through, i feel like the audio is standing out as the most epic bit. but thinking of it, youve just mastered every aspect of visual storytelling. the audio, dialogue, characters, animation, music... all of it, every aspect of this video series is just amzing, and i cant wait for the finale. i think youll make it wonderful as long as you keep doing what you have been doing.
Take your time with the finale man, look after yourself. I would recommend making the finale take a few days off then come back to it and look at it with fresh eyes. Really helps to get a different perspective when you take a little time off something, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of finishing a big work and thinking it's done after working on it forever.
I have to say your work on adapting Warhammer to screen is amazing. Your style of filming is exactly how Warhammer should be portrayed. The music, the look the cinematography, the feel of it is all absolutely stunning. I used to not care for Space Marines to much but this story made me love this chapter. I really hope to see you do more work with the 40k universe. Hopefully GW will see it and hire you to do more. I also wanted to add that I love how the animation evolves as the story progresses
Yours is the best 40K move I’ve seen. Really love it. You’re not quitting once you’re done, are you? There are so many more 40k story’s that deserve the love and devotion you put in to this.
I watched Vol. 1 again and I thought of the moment when Hades was destroyed and the epic Thunderhawk recovering from the nosedive and the Titan standing up to the sandstorm and I thought "You must watch anime" :) Loved it. Part 12 was great, I collect Salamanders, so it's always great to see them
Great work on 12! Honestly can't believe this is a one man show. Not sure if you have time to do this, but if you could add the scene where the Serpentine ran that gauntlet to deliver the Salamander reinforcements before making its way back to space again, where the High Marshall saves and then thanks the Salamander captain. If you could set that passage to movie, then I would be eternally grateful :D
Hey Richard. Great work, much appreciated. Cheers! correct me if i am wrong, but is part 13 gonna be the last episode that you would do on helsreach series? I ask this since there is a lot of story remaining, here which can make extend the series to episode 20 :^)
oh wow just heard you say, that episode 13 is gonna be at least 30 minutes long wow! so that would be decent indeed! It will cover a lot of events (wont say anything cuz of spoilers) Vol1 90min - Vol2 60min - over 2hrs! A 150 minutes WH40k Movie! cant wait to seei it :^D
Another series on the novels 'The Outcast Dead' or 'Legion' would be excellent. They're not too intense on the grander scale of battle so they should be more than manageable for you.
Here's a thought: why not make a live event on youtube, so we can all watch it at the same time? It would be pretty epic to see it live, with all our brothers across the world.
You are truly one talented son of a bitch!! Helsreach is fucking fantastic! And bloody hell the grin on my face when you said a live action 40k film, man good luck I cannot wait!!
Hello the work you do is amazing! If I may ask do you intend to do any other work on the 40k franchise? I and everyone here would love to see you continue your work and bring more of this universe to life like you do so well.
Will you be releasing it as a complete movie? I wanna watch it all in one go when you're done! :D Looking forward to it! Don't forget to take a step back every once in a while as you're working on it; as an illustrator I can relate completely to getting tunnel vision from staring at the same scene over and over. Hyped as hell though!
I've always wondered why you didn't go for the black background with white filled in for the early black&white segments. It's how a lot of the horror comics and animation gets made (and some Italian comedy comics).
Hey Richard, thanks for your service! What unit were you with? Regardless, Helsreach is my favorite 40K novel, I read it about twice a year. My copy is tattered and worn to shit but I love it. Thank you for all your work Battle-Buddy.
1 Question is: how are you going to design OBERON to look? I think of it as a massive Nova cannon on a giant hovering platform which looks like a big grey construction vehicle.
Personally I really love the dark grim with colors. The first episodes were nice, but honestly it defaced too much from the WH40K feel of it. the slight hint of color just made it so much better.
What I'm curious about is how long will it be. Most of the other parts are around the 15 minute mark. Like you, I have read it about as many times as I've read the Red Book, The Lord of the Rings. I know what's coming up, so I don't think it will run anywhere close to 15 minutes myself.
@ Richard Boylan buddy, I am furious with myself.......I saw your livestream pop up last night. It was 2am here, i was as tired and inebriated as you were and was faced with the choice of joining in, or get some sleep and prepare to execute my career today...... Damn did I make the wrong choice! (also I got attacked, rudely awoken and adrenalin pumped by a special forces stealth moth - battering of the face attempt 5 minutes into my slumber. It must've weighed 2 Lbs....... making my choice even more pointless! - I reckon the God Emperor, beloved by all sent it to me as a big F you....) I made a comment previously about you giving me a shout if you needed help with costumes if you go live action and I can't believe you're actually going to do it..... I'm blown away like a turd in a virus bomb. It's a bold move and if you're artistry in the build up to the conclusion is anything to go by, it's going to be awesome. As i said before the, the connection with viewers like myself watching the evolution of your project unfold has been fantastic. You asked about what can make it great..... The real hook in the series for me was watching the evolution, so you've already captured for me what would be the crux of that process - that and brother Primus. I haven't read these particular books, I think I understand he's the blademaster but his comic relief and the awkward moments he has with Nerovar are always my favourite. I hope to see these two shine and bond (having not read the books or knowing what's coming) in the last episode.....Plus of course, Grimaldus.... giving the heart to fight to the people, the mechanicum and the titanicus so the sleeping, secretive god machine doesn't need to be abducted by mere astartes.....what does it do that a Titan or a virus bomb can't? It would be interesting to know - but that's just my fantasy :D I can't wait to see the final installment. The offer of help is still there although it sounds like you're already good to go :) I'm sure this will work out for you, if not, we shall make it so!
