Oh my does this bring back memories! The neighbor and I have rebuilt an 18hp Onan and 2 20 horses!

My P216 and P220 are the best motors I've owned. It's crazy that yours blew up and mine needed a new connecting rod, but it's all due to abuse. These are industrial motors, 4000 hours is normal for them before tear down. I hope you guys get her going, nothing sounds like an Onan.

I've never seen one with that much metal piled up inside it. That piston was chewed to pieces. It's amazing that it kept running for a while after it blew apart like that.

First!! Woo Hoo!! It is amazing, it was running so well none of us realized it was only running on one cylinder until we felt the cold cylinder!!☺

I've used that on other cranks, It's amazing how the aluminum just dissolves!! I didn't have any muriatic laying around so I tried some sulfuric acid and that didn't do anything!!☺

I just rebuilt a b48m and I was wondering what would the engine do if the pin on the front cover with the little pin that would have to go into the plastic on the governor wheel wouldn’t have been outside the plastic?

Thanks Matt!! They are known for weak connecting rods, they were designed with about 3/4 inch hole in them!! They are made solid now!!☺

U guys do a great job ive seen many of your videos bit just a pointer id replace the other side connecting rod and put fresh rings on the other piston n hone the some good cross action n fire her up thanks for the vid

I have that same engine on a toro wheelhorse 520-H. Onan engines are the best small engine in my book

This is astounding. For a rod to disintegrate that bad and that no more damage was done than this, all I can say is that I hope your luck runs this good through out your life's.

I bought a miller bobcat 225g with the p216 engine off my welding instructor for 150 bucks because it didn’t run and this had happened to it, so once I replace both rods and pistons with the new style, it will only have costed me around 800 for a welder that is 3200 equivalent

We bought a 318 for $500 with a new tiller, bagger, snow caster, mower, it threw a rod but still ran! We bought a motor three years before we got the tractor for $75 but it smoked so we re ringed it

I just scraped a P20 Onan cause it blown up,out of my Gehl 3310 skidloader it had lots more damage then yours crank was toast :(

where can i get parts for an onan engine?

Well holy shit talk about shattered!!!! I've seen some weird things but thats just shattered. More than likely the rod got tight on the wrist pin would be my bet. But with the aluminium on the crank im thinking low or no oil. Pull the cap off the other rod and see what it looks like. maybe some junk came threw the oil pump at this point it doesn't matter anyways lol
