The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. I live in Coffs and know half of these roads, I actually navved in a 300HP Mazda V6 turbo powered Datsun 1200 ute earlier this year in Coffs rallysprint which used probably close to half of this stage... All I can say is that I thought the Datto was quick, but the pace these WRC guys are holding through here just blows everything out of the water. That is frighteningly fast, especially through the final part of the stage along Range Road. That is very tight along there, far tighter than it even looks in the video!

Nathan Johnson I was thinking the same thing. When i drove those roads in the rally sprint i thought i was doing okay. I knew i wasn't the fastest but that was as fast as i felt comfortable, then you watch this and think sh*t i was really just driving nan to the shops on a Sunday after church in comparison

Brilliant work from both driver and co-driver. In my opinion if Kris was driving a Polo, he would already score a couple of rally wins this season. After a bit disspointing first half of the season (excluding Monte podium) he's showing some great pace in recent rallies - especially those that he drove last year. We can only hope that other manufacturers can improve their cars and get closer to VW speed next year.

Have to say that this looks a bit similar than Loeb's driving style. Clean, deadpan and very fast. I think Kris is going to make even better results in the future.

Can't but agree with that. Although, in my opinion, this is mostly due to the configuration and the setup of the car. Loeb liked his citroen pretty understeer and the car got even more so during the transition from the long-wheel-base active-centre-diff C4 to the short and purely mechanical DS3. Judging by what Kris was showing in his past, I think that a car which would be more agile and spirited, not so rigidly forward-bound, could have fallen in better with his driving style. I generally think that too much understeer in a rally car is a bad thing. When the driver has to force the car to follow a line you know there is something wrong :). And to prove that it's not only mine idiosynchratic idea, just look at the Volkswagens and their handling.

Meeke is the third best driver at the moment in WRC speed wise imo (two above him are Ogier and Latvala). He just needs to work on finishing rallies and not crashing.

that was a good clean run i enjoyed every second of it he was well on the limit almost gone past it in places where the note was slowing !!!slow!! it was like he never even heard it the the note changed to WATCH IT NOW and he seemed to back off a bit i agree if he was in a VW i reckon its a stage win that is if he didnt win that stage in the citron there were no mistakes good notes by the co-driver irish man from cork i think that is a team to watch next season if they keep finishing rallies
