They took gift fro the audience, it's not that big of a deal. Personally I don't like it when actors take gifts from the audience or when they come through the audience or go into the lobby after a show, but they are only in highschool. And with a performance like that, i don't think many people cared.

@@alphacharm It's absolutely not "racist" to point out that the cast is racist for the purpose of uplifting their under represented community. I'd like to add that of all of the different productions on youtube of this musical, done by white people (which is just awkward as the musical is rooted so much in Black issues), this Asian (I'm guessing in a predominately Filipino area?) high school production really makes sense. Great kudos to the faculty and staff who did their due diligence in adapting the revival for a modern high school stage.

@@marissaomaque9849 an original concept? Productions do it all the time. I'd you were the artist who originated that design and spent a ton of time and thought into creating it, you'd be pissed if someone directly ripped it off too.

Mackenzie NesSmith well we really liked the designs in the revival cast. I mean they did such a great job making the broadway play into something new and we really respect that. So I wouldn’t say it’s “disgusting” we just really admired the new designs and decided to reference it in this production of OOTI

A specific race group shouldn’t be the only ones able to do this play. Anyone should be able to do it. It’s not inappropriate ;)

@@marissaomaque9849 no, a specific race should be playing the characters that are specifically supposed to be black. The musical book literally says they are 'dark as night'. The rest of the cast casting isn't as important, but that specically is an important factor

Honestly who cares tho. We really liked the story line and the importance of the story so we did this musical. The whole musical isn’t supposed to be about race but instead forgiveness and hope. So race shouldn’t matter at all. We did the musical and we switched things up a bit.

@@marissaomaque9849 well there are a plethora of musicals about hope and forgiveness that you could've done that didn't also involve some important aspect of race (because race is an important factor in the story).

Cordelia Foxx yes it’s an important factor of the story but the overall message is about forgiveness. Race isn’t the overall message at all. Thus it’s not important.
