YES SALT! I forgot to mention but goes in all my brines. Do yourself a favor and and make a simple standard brine to can up all your goodies. This brine is on the sweet side, so you can definitely cut that way back if you want a more traditional pickle brine.
Recipe for my go to sweet brine:
2 Cups Water
2 Cups Vinegar
2 Cups Sugar
3 Tablespoons pickling salt or kosher salt.
Combine well on stove top and heat over high heat until well incorporated and sugar and salts have fully dissolved. Use on your canned goods as directed and following canning directions for timing based on your produce, size of jar and elevation.
