Well, I will tell you why I changed mine. I was doing the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail and riding the trail up north in the middle of the nowhere I slipped in the mud and the bike dropped on the left side. Because the original G310gs gear shift lever is not “Foldable “ , while falling down broke off at the pivot point ( where the star bolt is located). Lucky for me the bike was in second gear , and I managed to ride for and hour and got lucky to find a machine shop that fixed( welded) my shifter. Since I got home that was the first thing that I replaced on the bike , getting this same foldable gear shifter. I got mine from EBay .
Instead of awkwardly trying to unscrew that bolt while still attached you should have removed it from the assembly. There is a wire that slides into the ball socket to trap the ball. Flip it around, pull it out, and then pop the ball off. Now you’re free to play with the lever and nut unfettered. Reverse the process when done. DO NOT lose the wire or you’ll be buying the whole assembly for about $65.
Oh my! I've been out in the garage trying in vain to unscrew that upper piece to change the shift lever. that 11 milometer open end wrench just strips that bolt. I've tried a few different things short of dynamite... I'm about put the torch to it to get to move or order those parts... ARrrgggh!
@@VectorBurnOfficial I got it I got it! I have lots of good tools in the garage and then my basement workshop also. But the net was becoming stripped even with the right stuff. Solution? Heat from butane torch and some penetrating oil but had to take some of that apart so I wouldn't fry the rubber grommet that would have burned up so I had to end up using good new vice grips to turn that sucker out. It's possible the previous owner used some serious loctite it looks like on the threads I've removed. Thanks for your answer by the way.
