Hi Dazza, excellent video which encouraged me to do the same mod (45mins) and fully agree with you. It transforms the bike into a much more enjoyable ride. It really does help the bike to find a sweet spot for 3rd/4th gear with a really great engine thrum around 4k/5k revs and of course the taller gearing overall is a revelation. Well done on your content and presenting style. Evan, Dublin, Ireland.
Excellent stuff! I've been waffling back and forth between this and the cb500 x as to which should be my first bike. My brain said the Honda... But I really want this one. Seeing the results of this experiment of yours has probably sealed the deal for me. The GS it is. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see more videos from you soon.
I changed my sprocket to a 17 tooth today and I agree with Dazza, the bike felt amazing leaving the driveway. I do allot off road riding on my 310 and I think it will perform better with longer gears. At highway speeds it's easier to pass, I just love this new feeling. If you change the sprocket, use locktite on the sprocket bolt as it was from the factory. If you can use a paddock stand or under engine bike stand to adjust the chain so no tension is on the chain your adjustment will be more precise. Love the videos Dazza, thanks for the sprocket tip, they should come from the factory this way.
@@Andreas.619hey, my bike is g310r (the roadster version, naked bike). Cruise comfortably at 120mph - definitely not, that's about it's maximum speed. Comfortable cruising speed i would say is about 100-110kmh (not mph). Anything above feels like engine is revving too high (imo, some would disagree). IMO this bike/engine is not great for long highway rides, unless you are willing to stay in the slow lane and not push it. As for what difference it made for me -- 1) comfortable cruising speed (by my preferences in terms of engine revving etc) has increased from about 90-95kmh to 100-110kmh, and 2) the gears became longer so IMO it's more comfortable to accelerate (you don't have to switch gears so "frantically"). 6000 rpm in 6th gear is about 105kmh now (where as before it was 90 something).
@@antondubkov thanks dude, I have the same bike :) could you maybe send me the link of the sprocket you used? Are sprockets universal or bike model based ? Btw I'm in South Africa and Anton is a popular name
I've been thinking about switching to 17T and it seems those who have done so are very happy? I remember when I change in my old VZ800 and it became a completely different motorcycle. Did you buy the original sprocket from BMW or from the aftermarket? Thank’s
Thanks to your video, I put a 17T sprocket on 310R. It’s better than before (for my type of riding) but I still may add a slightly smaller sprocket on back.
subbed! champion 🏆 I just came back from my first long ride and I noticed the high revs and this will not only drop the revs and noise but also the fuel too which it chews especially when there's a bit of wait on while motocamping! imma smash a beer for you also mate 🍻
Good job Dazza and greetings from New Zealand. I have the exact same bike, colour, and year model and just did this same mod today and looking forward to testing it when this heavy rain stops. If I was being picky I'd say your chain is just a little bit too slack looking at this video. If you drop into a bike shop and just do a visual comparison to your chain is the best way to gauge.
Great stuff, really enjoyed it and you explained it really well. (Thinking of getting the GS but not sure about vibes). Daft question for you - What would happen if you put an 18 teeth sprocket on the front? Take care and ride safe.
@@dazzasrandomstuff5672 well I can say this is a good link Procycles don't sell 17t at all and many supplies done have em nor make em either , Ive done your link and I'll just wait , Munich were out of stock and $90 delivered , looking forward to the difference 😁 cheers
It's a thumper. From what I understand if you're pulling it down to that 5k you're loading the engine increasing friction and wear. 🤷♂️idk but what about your speedo accuracy?
Hi mate, I just want to know how it holds up on hills, do you loose power at all? That is my only concern before putting the mod on. Anyways thanks for these videos I subbed you just because I liked these videos so much. Keep it up!
@@dazzasrandomstuff5672 Yes Id not want to lose too much of the perky lower gears, but think I'll try the 17t for higher end smoother speed, still like the bike 2018 thrash it 15k not a problem , many extras on , do like your big screen for gps, maybe Ill see if Procycles keeps one for the 310
