What Sy did was wrong - but discovering Will Yorkin having an affair did push him over the edge and it brought back memories of his own father. He felt Will's wife and son deserved to know the truth of Will's betrayal.
Stalking is when a unwanted or obsessive person begins following another person and adultery is when a married man/woman engages in a sexual act outside marriage with another person. They are both bad things and just as worse as each other But, Will committing adultery with Maya and betraying his wife and son is defiantly a lot worse than Sy stalking the Yorkins.
The little boy is the only one to really know what was going on. He felt sorry for Sy in the beginning because he told his mom he senses that Sy had no family or friends (despite mom saying he probably did), and the boy also refuses to take the action figure because he knew it was really weird for Sy to be sitting at his soccer practice like that and he also spotted Sy's car stopped behind whatever horrible pictures his mom just got developed from Sy's lab. Kids are smart with judging people.
Kids are not smart in judging ppl. I would argue and say they are the worst at spotting inconsistencies or patterns in ppl whether they be good or bad.
@@lastmanstanding80 theyre pretty smart in basic problem solving, before we start erasing that: like spotting eccentricities, hazards, or asking questions to figure out a problem. Nowadays, a person will cut in line because they don't see the 50 people. The only problem is kids are too open at times, such as pointing things out in a rude manner.
People try desperately to hide the part of themselves they don't want to show to others but in Sy's case, the side they hide becomes blatantly obvious because that side is the dominant side. As inane as that sounds, I guarantee you Ive gone somewhere with it.
I remember seeing this as a kid on VHS and thinking what a cool idea this was because developing photos was so prevalent at the time. Then I saw the nightmare scene and I’ve been in therapy for several years
She never did confront her husband about the affair & she was probably never going too. Perhaps she was thinking of her son but her son is already aware of the affair too & he's probably curious as to why his father would do such a thing. So what kind of an example does that set for him.....

As she doesn't exist outside the confines of the film, we don't know what she would have done.
Sy is such a good character because like all great antagonists he’s a character who’s convinced that what he’s doing is the right thing, obviously he went over the edge by threatening Will and Maya and all but he was convinced that he was doing right by Nina and Jake, when an antagonist truly believes that the horrible things they’re doing are the right things that’s what makes them scary
Ben Isboy he is talking about before it was possible to just print out your own photos. There was a time when you took photos with a camera that had film (not digital cameras) and you had to have them developed. Honestly, I miss those days. I know technology has done amazing things but it has also done so much negative. Everything is available RIGHT NOW. Just a click away. I miss the days where you had to wait for things. Where people actually interacted instead of just texting. The human race has lost so much as a result of technology. I truly believe that technology will eventually cause the end of the human race.

This driving scene was filmed about two minutes away from Dodger Stadium on Elysium Park Way going up toward the Los Angeles Police Academy and one of the entrances to the stadium. I've driven it hundreds of times, oh well I guess they do film a lot of movies here in LA so just another movie scene or maybe they were going to take in game.
First time I saw this, I got upset that she just went along not confronting him or anything. Now I'm thinking she just did it for her son, appearances and comfortable life style. Divorces are a nasty business, sometimes it's easy to look the other and continue with the comfortable life style in the end she just went along with it and marriage as usual.
He wanted to be apart of someone's life and family who knew he was so lonely and desperate and trapped! Sly was a lonely man who just existed! Its sad story about a lonely man who really didn't exist at all! Robin Williams is amazing in this however its sad that he took his own life!
What is so sad is that there are so many people like Sy in real life. People that others just look over. Loneliness is brutal. It is sad to think that some people, even though they have so much to give to others, because some may view them as odd, spend their whole lives alone. I hate to know that. It is so heartbreaking. Just showing a little compassion and even taking a few minutes out of your day to talk and most importantly listen and show them that you care, could make such a huge difference in someone’s day and maybe even their life. I know that it is just a movie, but there are so many “Sys” out there, and maybe if they had more people show them goodness, they wouldn’t resort to some of the disturbing behavior that Sy resorted to. If he had people show him compassion and care, he wouldn’t have done what he had done. I just don’t see him as a villain. I just have so much empathy for that character. Even though stalking a family and doing what he did was wrong, I just don’t see him as a bad or evil person whatsoever. He just was truly a good person drowning in loneliness, who did some disturbing things as a result of that overwhelming loneliness. So many people in the world do.
The boy knew. Even in the beginning he was in his room sad telling his mom how he felt sorry for Sy because he didn't believe Sy had anyone who cared about him, friends or family. Kids are very good at spotting these things.
He didn't know it was cruel. Seeing that set him off because it reminded him of his abusive father. So to him, telling it now was he thought wouldve helped him years ago. Don't confuse malice with stupidity.

Who took that picture? It's not angled correctly for a selfie. It suggests someone else is photographing Will Yorkin's affair for him. Which is... weird.
Also, the woman's left hand seems to just...disappear? Lol maybe I am not looking at it right but it just seems to melt away into the guy's arm. But maybe they used a timer on the camera to take the pic.
I remember taking a side piece to see this in one of those smaller theaters in the college part of town. It wasn't that big a movie, but it had a huge buzz in the local music scene. Ended the extra relationship a while later. Married to the then-girlfriend for almost 20 years now. So...RIP Robin Williams.

If I was sy I would have anonymously gotten the photos to the father/husband .....be sort of like the jigsaw killer and Dr Gordon on the first saw movie

I didn't see it that way. Sy loved them even if that obsession did get him fired. Sure, being fired was upsetting to Sy, but he was devastated when he found out Will was not the man he thought he was. Sy really wanted to be the dad there but he would settle for being the uncle so long as the family was happy. Until he found out what kind of person Will really was that is. The only way to help the family is by showing them his true nature and he only had so much time left to do it. You can see the concern on Sy's face here.
He didn't blame the mother and son. He was outraged at the husband for having it all, a life Sy could only dream of, yet throwing it all away and cheating on his wife and neglecting his son. And in his unhealthy fixation with the Yorkins, he feels possessive of them and like he's part of the family, so he intrudes into their lives and takes it upon himself to expose Will's affair. In his mind, I don't think he's trying to hurt the wife and son, he thinks he's doing the right thing by showing them the truth.
The fact that Sly didn't exist at all and that he had no friends no family and no life and he was alone and frightened b/c he had no one and he just wanted to be apart of someone's life and he wanted a family he called himself Uncle Sly to the Yorkin Family and he had alot of moments were he would day dream have a family that would love him and the Yorkins had that spark. Sly was such a tragic character and Robin Williams played him and it was glimpse into Robin Williams soul and he just had this comic routine that was just an act and he killed himself. I guess we will never know why he did what he did. Sly was dead inside and he spied on the Yorkins and he went over the edge with them. He wanted to exist so bad and he didn't and the Yorkins didn't care about hiim at all and there was a scene when he took a pic of himself to show he existed when in fact the tossed the picture away and they weren't interested in him until Will Yorkin had an affair and Sly found out about it and he did what his father did to him taking pictures of him and degrading Will Yorkin and saying "Don't touch her and this was supposed be fun!" I think in the end Sly ended up in some state hospital or something b/c in the background the scene was all white and white means death and he was dead. Just like me!
