At The Banner, Cord sends a photographer to the Llanview Grande and asks him to report back any news he hears about Austin. Jon tells Cord he has some troubling news about Tina. He says Cassie saw Tina at the Imperial Hotel in Mendorra. Cord calls over to the hotel and leaves a message for Tina to call him. Cord asks Jon about his sudden interest, and Jon admits he’s working on a case for the government of Mendorra, but he can’t share the details. Bo returns to the wine cellar, unable to get through because of all the smoke. Sarah tries to run into the tunnel herself, but Bo stops her. Rafe shows up and escorts both of them out to the command station police have set up. In the penthouse, Austin drops the match and turns to leave, but Clint attacks and the two tussle over the gun while Roger tries to smother the flames with a pillow. Clint knocks Austin down and goes to untie Viki as Roger stops the flames, but Austin rebounds, grabs his gun and fires, hitting Viki. Clint returns fire, felling Austin. Clint prepares to carry Viki to safety, but the smoke outside the penthouse is too thick, and he says they are trapped. At Statesville Prison, Jamie tries to reignite Ursula’s hatred for Tina, reminding her how Tina manipulated her and her father. In the lobby of the Crystal Towers, an officer tells Asa he needs to leave: only staff and police personnel are allowed in the lobby. Asa tells them it’s his family’s lives at stake and he isn’t going anywhere. Asa and Max look at blueprints for the apartments to find a way into the penthouse that doesn’t go through the fiery upper floors. Michael and Gabrielle offer their assistance, but Max suggests Asa get a helicopter to bring him to the roof and then Max can get into the penthouse from above. Gabrielle says it’s too dangerous. As Max heads to the chopper, Michael convinces Asa to prepare a Plan B: rigging a line between the hotel and the towers to try and get from one building to the other.
Jamie fakes another psychotic break when he thinks the officers plan to return him to his cell, but Dan assures him that’s not what’s happening. Kelly surprises Dan with lunch (somehow, in a maximum security ward) and admits she misses him. She asks why he didn’t call her after their great date. Elizabeth warns Jamie she doesn’t like his plan, particularly the part about the psych ward. Rafe reports that officers on the roof of the Llanview Grande heard gunshots coming for the Crystal Towers. In the penthouse, Clint hears the helicopter and tells everyone to keep lying on the ground where there’s still some air. Max and an officer arrive and rescue all four hostages. Back in the lobby, Asa tells everyone the pilot radioed and confirmed everyone is on board. One crisis handled, Gabrielle asks Michael to connect her with the hearing specialist he mentioned in Toronto. Rafe arrives with more news: Clint shot Austin who is now dead, but Austin got off a shot too and Viki is being rushed to Llanview Hospital. Cord asks Jon what his wife has gotten mixed up in this time, but Jon says he doubts Tina knew the bracelet had any value when she bought it. Still, Cord wonders, how can it be a coincidence that she ended up in Mendorra. Jon suggests he get the whole story out of her so she doesn’t wind up like Isadora. At the hospital, Roger tells Sarah, Bo, Asa, and Cord about what went on in the penthouse. He says Viki is hanging on by a thread, and Megan has been in shock and nonresponsive ever since Viki was shot. Max stands over Megan’s hospital bed, trying to get her to respond by assuring her Austin is gone and everyone else is OK. Clint tells Viki to keep fighting as the doctors wheel her into surgery.
