If you dont like the velcro of the eagle, tactical taylor, or spiritus spud pouches, Tracer Tactical makes the “Viper adapter” which makes the velcro closeures a silent openeing. Like a G hook.
Another great video, economic solutions... The canteen cover that gusseted (b/c of your vid on them I have 3) I've stuck my Hydroflask 32oz inside to see if it will stretch out a bit over time. I really like the idea of the canteen/GP pouches for mags and canteens. As a rule and experience, I don't like tge flap that goes over old Alice mag pouches. When single mag pouches or a shingle of 3 w/shock cord retention pull tabs started showing up, that's the solution I use for my initial fighting mags. The GP pouch w/additional mags for replenishment and storage for spent mags is what I'm looking at. A lot of great cost effective solutions. Thank you for posting. Again, almost everytime you release a video, my surplus store makes more $$ from me...😂
Brother, Please add the applause track every time Birdy makes an appearance! Also, my go to for verbalizing anything that is superior is "It's More Gooder". I have not trade marked it so, please, feel free to utilize it as necessary. I lost most of my original ALICE gear in my house fire years ago. I also removed all of the grenade "pockets" from all of my magazine pouches. Thank you for sharing your journey of test pouches prior to coming to your conclusion. The destination is nothing without the journey!
Another great video. Hard to believe the d Alice pouches still serve so well. I was amazed when I found out that malice clips work with them. I found that a little attention with some sandpaper helped ease them through the slots (if you’re using the regular ones, not the Fight Light ones.)
Another excellent video. When I was in the F.M.F I would pull out the ALICE clips and use boot strings I picked up at the PX to tie down my pouches Magazine, Canteen and butt pack to my cartridge belt, it eliminated any noise and I did not have mag pouches come loose on me in the field, which was my only chief gripe with my 782 gear. I would also tape down the hooks after attaching them to the mag pouches and butt pack. Fast Foward........Today I fasten down my mag pouches, canteen pouches and butt pack to my cartridge belt with big fat black Zip Ties. They do not break, the do not make noise and I can actually if the belt needs adjusting, slide the pouches around, a little tough but it can be done. I own a FAL, I use for deer & hog hunting, so my belt mag pouches can hold two each, I generally only carry two spare 20 round mags with Ball ammo, in lieu of our Coyote problem. However, I cannot fit those mags in my LBV-88 chest pouches. Thats okay, because those chest pouches can be used for other things, if I choose to leave the vest attached. If I"am carrying my AR then I can carry 10 mags in total. I leave one chest pouch for a first aid kit. Okay, that is my long winded 2 cents. LOL. Any way, Happy Easter.
Good video It was definitely a gamechanger when we switched from canvas to nylon LBE, as well as from 20-round mags to the 30-round mags And yes, I am that old...
Happy Easter weekend to you, sir. I agree that the ALICE pouch is underrated in that out of all of them, it will keep the mud, blood, and beer out of your mags the best of most. There are few full-flapped magazine pouches anymore. Velocity Systems jungle pouches are one. Tactical Tailor used to offer a full flapped AR/AK magazine pouch that was similar to the ALICE in capacity, but it's sadly discontinued.
Great video and Happy Easter to you , yours and Birdie! TT makes good stuff and you pay for it! UNICOR (US Gov contactor) still makes the ALICE 3-pk mag pouches - 'new' for around $10 - $12. The UNICOR model does not have the internal dividers some of the older (USMC?) types had and you could add a shock cord cinch if desired. I LOVE them! Never thought of the 30rnd 10-22 mags - cool! Thanks for the MALICE clips 'tip' too - I've been using zip ties. AK mags will not fit - not many US surplus pouches will hold them well (mags too long). Most guys run a 'commie' chest rig when running AKs anyway. I've had to resort to Condor and Blackhawk MOLLE double side by side pouches (holds 4 AK mags and 6 M4/PMAG) which are sturdy enough and likely last for my use. MAC-V-SOG......I just bought Plaster's 'Photo History' book! Through adapting and improvising the gear they had (most of it M56 web designed for 20rnd mags) to fit their missions those guys paved the way for much of the spec-ops combat gear worn before the modern PCs. 👍👍👍
Happy Easter! He is risen. A lot to be said for general purpose pouches and dump pouches as we live with inconsistent supply chains. Always nice to be able to work with what you have.
Great video. Too bad TT doesn't use the clip from the Alice pouch on their own instead of the Velcro. In my opinion that would make them ideal. So off to see about putting MOLLE and a shock cord on an Alice pouch.
i agree that would make the TT pretty perfect. i think the alice pouch is too firm for a shock cord to make a difference. you could remove the plastic insert that gives it its shape and stability. let me know how that goes.
The old ChiCom Tupe 56 and Type 81 chest rigs should hold all of these as well. I use them for 10/22, 556 and the type 56 will even hold 12 gauge magazines. I put pieces of foam in the bottom as they are too deep as issued. S/F.
The filler can be something useful as well. A cravat/triangular bandage or a pressure dressing can do the same. Anything used is harder to access but you can be your own resupply. You can tie a string around them as a pull cord to yank them out.
The Spiritus Systems Spud Pouch does all of what the Tactical Taylor pouch does and then double. The only problem is the spud pouch is WILDLY expensive at $50 a pouch!
The Spud is the only purpose mag pouch I've seen that will fit three AR mags, two battle rifle mags, or two AK mags. They're expensive but if you're truly doing a rig to hold any type of rifle mag then it's still cheaper than doing one setup for every mag type, or bothering with swapping pouches out all the time.
Well the Mag pouchs i uses are the British 1958 Pattern they do have right hand and left hand Pouch's they work with all my Mag's for 20 Round's 40S&W Mag's 556 4 Mag's in a Pouch for Ruger mini 14 3 Mag's in 308 FN FAL and M1A & 22LR Ruger 10 22 & Marlim 989M2 ,
