this video is exactly what i was looking for. i signed up for the auditions my school just posted up and have been shitting my pants since lol. i just started school two weeks ago and have no acting experience whatsoever but figured why not at least try. til now all i found was people doing self tapes or monologues with people reading back to them. this all came last minute, my audition is in 36 hours and i just got signed up so i'm scrambling to figure out how to do this. this video was super helpful and honestly really boosted my confidence going into this because i have a single person dialogue thing like this ready to go that i've practiced and feel pretty good about but there's like no directions about what to do listed and trying to email teachers last minute to ask for help preparing isn't solid going into the weekend with them not around, so i'm assuming based on what it says this is the format it will be done in. thanks for posting this up, these were great examples and many of them i really enjoyed, especially the old guy "i don't have herpes, but it's ok if you do" LMAO
glad to see you're trying acting, Ik its nerve racking at first. trust me it takes a while to shake them but its something everyone deals with. how'd your audition go? wishing the best
Same position but in uni and they told me to prepare something and I don’t know where to go. Also we are bilingual so I am searching in two languages 🥲
He changed it. Was he nervous or was he just trying to change it? In my experience monologues either have to be exactly the other persons work, or your own. Anything else seems like plagiarism. Unless he just was nervouys and made a mistake.
Best one and most real and believable of all.... is the older man - grey hair - Hawaiian shirt:) He was the very best... Everyone else was overacting and pushing it. But not him - he was cool, calm and collected and super funny:) I could see him on Film and would totally cast him ... He's the Winner in my book:)
Hello, Avelon! And, thanks for checking out our channel! We're super stoked that you're enjoying the performances. The Vampire Monologue was a custom piece written specifically for that actor and that contest. It's since been performed by many other actors and is also available to you if you'd like to take it on. It can be easily modified to fit whichever actor's individual characteristics. For example, it wasn't originally written with a Latino. This actor added some tidbits to fit his personality. Hope this helps!
Hey Jasmine! Thanks for the interest... it is an original piece that I wrote/collaborated on with the studio owner, Clay Banks. Hope you liked it and thanks again! -- Joe
I think acting sad is easy, acting cool is easy, but acting funny and it's actually funny is really hard. monologue, in my opinion, is the thought that entertains myself when I am not talking to anyone and in=my-space to think of life or the next moves in my mind. scenarios in most movies, they are used for explaining a character's personality, what he/she acts in monologue reflects the character's P.O.V: if he/she sees life in a happy-pinky lens or a dark lens. Monologue is the best way to directly tells viewer the characters' stories. It doesn't need to be funny as I said, however if you can act funny, sadness is easy with you, really, comedians are the most depressing people. Sometimes when they are off guard, you will see a sadness in the way they tell their stories. can't laugh, can't cry, but you see two side of the coins in a personality when they are extreme. Anyways, it doesn't need to be funny in each audition, maybe the the topic was to do a monologue like a comedian? I don't know. However, acting out on a self-talks that is relatable and makes people laugh says a lot about how good you are at being flexible with your minds and shows confidence. I think it's always good to make casting director laugh, he/she will remember you than not having any reaction at all. Just my opinion.
We weren't receiving monologue names back then. We are now. Many of these pieces have been adapted and adjusted so even if they were from something known, they wouldn't be the same. Feel free to us any that you'd like and also feel free to make them your own.
