Thanks for taking the time to show us a few months of progress in your tank. But sorry for the losses my dude! It’s so painful to lose these beautiful pets. Copper bands are so sensitive & I wonder if the stress level of being thrown into the display is what did it. If you try again you should consider getting an acclimation box for the display itself to get the copper band comfortable for a few weeks before releasing him with the other tank inhabitants. I have some eshopps acclimation boxes but they are so flimsy. I’d check out Octo Aquatics, those are super high quality, made to order acrylic boxes.
Hey CJ! Looking good! Its great that you cover the bad as well as the good! Alot of channels make it seem like its all great times! I upgraded to a sca 120 a few years ago after watching your series and just ordered a im 200 ext as my final upgrade! I was impressed by your review of your im so decided to make the move!
Awesome! If I ever find myself in another permanent living situation I’ll definitely go with biggest IM system available great tanks. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
Love it my man! Watching the entire video. You never let us down. Ups downs. Whatever it is, you’re the real reporter! Good thing is carpet wasn’t removed to dry out for 14 days.
Greetings Cjs, your aquarium is incredible, congratulations. Could you tell me if you continue using the AF life source and if it really does what they say. Thank you
Did you start this tank with dry rock? I've never found dinos to be an issue in ULN systems with live rock or mature media (basically a lot of biodiversity). I find with the bigger use of dry rock, we are/will be seeing more issues with Dinos. May not be the case for you but thought it was worth a point out. Always good to add some mature media or LR in if you're doing a dry rock system. Hope the Dinos stay away for ya 🤞
Yes I started with AF rock.. seeded the tank with live established live rock and bio media from a friends system in the sump a couple months after cycling. Great point.. but live rock isn’t as available and would have been hard to create the Aquascape I have now. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
@CJSAQUARIUMS it's definitely wayyyy easier working with dry rock for sure. I personally found that keeping media/LR in from the start to help 'prevent' the issue. I suspect the nutrients after the fact assist in feeding something else, probably bacteria to help outcompete the dinos. They are a pain for sure! All the best 😊
This is hands down one of the best if not the best looking reef tank on RU-vid bro! I’ve been following along since your old school JBJ, and I’m still not subscribed 😂. Maybe you can tell the 😢 babies how long you’ve been making content on your reef journey? The RU-vid following is impressive but the most impressive part is keeping a fire 🍑 looking reef. Let’s not make this community anymore toxic than it already is… I think this is a tank that speaks for itself. I think there is a lot to be learned here instead of 😢 about some free corals. I’ve killed plenty of FREE nice looking expensive corals but just because they were free and nice when I got them don’t mean they can’t be killed or turned brown 😅
I’ve made 330 videos over the last 10 years.. multiple tanks and even had a 3 year break during that time. I’m not sure why anyone would be upset.. all good vibes bro I don’t ever aim to do anything more then share my tank and experiences. Thanks for tapping in 🫡👌🏾
I finally subscribed! Thanks for sharing these updates. One day my tank will look half as good as yours… whether it’s in my dreams or in person just know it’ll get there 😂
Damn.. I love your reef!!! Looks great! Ya the cycling is a PIA, I lost 3 diamond goby’s because they were eating the Dino’s, lost an anemone too.. I finally broke down and got a uv sterilizer, helps a lot. Now my tank is fully cycled, looks way better now. I gotta step up my cuc though for my sand. I stopped buying anything for the moment though. Keep on inspiring us! Thank you
Gobies are hard to keep long term.. I think aggression and Dino’s killed one of mine. I also have a UV but even with it bottoming out on nutrients still caused Dino’s. Keep fighting the good fight.. thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
What up cj I’m just gettin into this vid but I wanted to say it looks great here in that opening shot! (Btw in the past I had great luck with nerite snails eating cyano/ Dino’s) Im tempted to try my luck with a copperband. I’ve got some aiptasia that really giving me a run for my money.
Love the term "REEF Therapy"... Also, is the use of the MXM with your Orbit and MP40s, limited by choice of flow, compared to just going directly with the options via the morbius app? Do a video of your flow choice/settings during the day.
I’ll have to make a flow video… it’s been requested a lot. MXM has majority of same functionality.. with a few exceptions I will cover. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
I have 16 tuxedo urchins from Algae Barn in my tank. They are like a roomba, just fantastic for my 300 gal. I want Hawkfish really badly, but I have 8 shrimp and I heard Hawkfish love eating shrimp. You do not seem to have a problem so far?
Tank looks absolutely stunning. Ive not been able to keep copperbands or file fish alive beyond the quarantine tank. I wonder if captive bred would be stronger?
Hey Cj happy to see you back! I was struggling with all sorts of algae/Dino’s and so I decided to try out some live “gulf” sand from Aquabiomics and im happy to report about after two weeks all that beneficial bacteria went to work and my tank has not look better! Besides bubble algae 😭😭
Tank is looking dope Cj! Glad to see you got over Dino’s!! I’m dealing with them right now myself. Just covered the tank last night for a 3-4 day blackout. Wish me luck brother!
Dinos are the worst, lol. I have been dealing with SCA Dinos. Been dosing waterglas (silicates) for well over a month, still in the waiting game. No water changes, etc. Definitely interested in how your tuxedo urchins do.
Well one didn’t make it it’s like a tumble weed blowing around as an empty shell. The other seems to be ok.. ether way CUC will be beefed up again soon. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
Check out the kamoer reef master spa. It will test literally all your parameters ( alk, mag, cal, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate and iron) Might be worth investing in that when it comes out to prevent future dino outbreaks due to nutrient issues
Sounds good my man thanks for the suggestion. Until then just gotta use my Hanna checkers for nutrients the old fashioned way. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
@@adamhudson6812 supposed to be coming out soon. Krakking corals has a video of the kamoer reef master on his channel that he has been testing for a while.
Been a hell of a fight but it looks like hard work and patience paid off. Sorry about your Copperband. They can be tough as you already know. Get yourself a spline tool. But hey the B Easy fork did the job. lmao.
I’ve been using the Life Source from Aquaforest and a couple days later I use coral snow. Definitely has been helping me with my algae issues. Big ups to CC Reefer
Hope your shrimp don’t get eaten by your wrasses. My female halichoeres eventually ate my cleaner shrimp. Saw the antenna of the shrimp sticking out of the wrasse’s mouth 😳
Yeah unfortunately the Copper Band butterfly is a fish that should no longer be sold for the aquarium trade..they rarely survive unless you have a very well aged reef tank that's been running for many years
I would use water changes and the skimmer as the primary exporter of nutrients. Don't bother with that algae scrubber... Too many tanks bottoming out because of it.. not to mention also taking up vital trace elements.... That your corals could be using. Go simple
I’m definitely being mindful of my export.. the scrubber has never been activated on the tank. Just skimming and water changes.. I do have a ton of coral exporting nutrients as well.. I’m working on finding that balance so right now I’m slowly adding export back into the equation. Thanks for tapping in 🫡🤝🏾
