Hey CJ I haven’t jumped on to see one of your videos in a while, sorry to hear about you’re acro’s just wanted to let you know there are other SPS that you can put in your tank that are not nearly as sensitive as acro. I just don’t want you to turn down the idea of SPS completely, for your arch, you could do something like encrusting Monty’s, Lepto, or even scroll coral.
Nudi!!!! They decimated the aiptasia in my 75G tank. It was looking like we were just growing aiptasia. Took them may a month when I put them in. Only put in 10, sold over 100 to local coral store. They multiply and do great
The kalk would have help stabilize the levels to keep Sps if you added kalk to the stir weekly it would kept your alk high for the Sps I think you should give a few another try love the post
I have been running Kalk on my system entire life of the tank.. alk has been stable for some time now. There were other factors at play known and unknown for sure but we moving on 💯
While SPS is beautiful, nothing beats the movement of LPS. LPS, softies, and nems are really what I love and I can’t wait to see what you do with your new direction.
I used to have cyano in my tank, I noticed that it would come back every time I cleaned my sand, maybe leaving it alone for a while will work just a suggestion.
Just let it ride for a while. You’re trying to force nature with the immediate remedies. Tank looks great but you are now settling instead of making your dream come true. Just let things mature. I would suggest is to place a frag rack on the back wall where the sps arch was and see if you can grow a few frags there. I had a similar issue. I added a splitter reducing the flow outlets to 1/2”and added random flow heads.I went from 2 outputs to 4 extra power heads becuase I aimed them at places on the reef where it was greatly needed. Just have to keep them clean so coraline doesn’t make them apparent. Stay up 👊🏾✊🏿✌🏾
Is that sort of toxic green branching soft coral a sinularia? A lot of sinularia I’ve seen are long and more tubular with fewer polyp density. I like the compactness and polyp density of the piece you have.
From what i understand it’s a pineapple leather coral. I’m hunting down a few different leathers for the tank but this was a random find at lfs months ago. Very nice coral indeed
@@CJSAQUARIUMS I think you are right. Thanks so much! I actually grabbed one of these at Aquashella (my first soft coral) the other day. It was sold as a sinularia but all good as it’s a beautiful piece.
One of many reason why i stayed away from sps. Only ones I've dealt with and had success with were the more hardy and beginner SPS. I like movement anyway, thats why i love LPS. What is that green coral at 8:46? Is that some type of toadstool?
Japanese weeping willow. Bought it dime sized last year it’s grown into a nice piece for sure. I agree movement is the look I want so new journey will be heavy on that
Nice aquascape. You can save some money by cutting down on your auto water changer. I believe you said you change 3 gallons of water a day. If i heard you right, this is a 75 gallon system. The rule of thumb is 10%/ week for water changes. That would equate to about 1 gallon/day for your auto doser
Goal was changed 100% of tanks water volume each month to help export bass and import goods. Definitely will dial it back once tank starts to settle in again post chaos
Damn man I hate that for ya but the tank still looks awesome!!! If you want to try it again just let me know. I’m about to cut my disney. I also have a gold hammer that I’m about to cut. If you still have the orbit and you want to get rid of it let me know I could use another one.
Waving the 🏳️ my man … gold hammer fits the new theme for sure. I’ll let you know on the orbit holding it for now I may fit it back in later. Thanks for tapping in 🫡
CJ, your tank is looking great. You have such a level of automation I am surprised you dont have a filter roller. I spend up to a month away from home. I run an Apex with autowater change, filter roller, skimmer. I only auto test KH whilst I am away. One of the best bits of kit I use for remote operations are web based cameras.
Awesome setup man.. I’ve considered it but only ones I can use are the 4” mini ones for sock holders. I maybe try it but I mainly rely skimmer scrubber for filtration. Thanks for tappin in 🫡
I'm trying to understand how a ton of electronics "automation" is somehow considered "be easy." In my own reef I have dosers, pumps, skimmer, lights, UV etc. all automated, and the idea of calling it being easy is so far from the truth. In this hobby, what can go wrong will. The more components you put in your system, the higher likelihood you're going to have a headache with them. FWIW in my 20+years of reefing, a be eazy system would be a tank with softies that you do manual wc's once a week, everything outside of that leads to more trouble in my humble opinion. The hardest part in this hobby is ACTUALLY keeping a system that indeed is a be eazy system, cause we all know walking into your LFS will test your will to keep things simple.
Relax my man lol Be Eazy reef name came from my trademark saying I’ve said for almost a decade of videos. This tank in itself has an extensive amount of equipment and automation which allows me to be away from it and still maintain it. Many points of potential failure but when pulled off correctly this system is the least hands on system I’ve ever owned.. so to me it is easy in a way.. but I’m also a IT guy so the automation is a fun hobby in itself. thanks for tapping in 🫡💯
a mixed reef with SPS is tough, especially with leathers. I can make it work with LPS and SPS, but the leathers are tough on SPS. Excited to see where this goes from here.
I think you’re right. Has to be chemical warfare issues… I was trying to pull off the impossible. At some point gotta stop setting money on fire 🔥. Thanks for tapping in 🫡💯
Happy to see you’re keeping it going! I’ve enjoyed watching the progression. I think your new approach will have beautiful results. Look forward to seeing more!
Tanks looks amazing. You have a knack for scaping. Maybe on the top arch you could put some photosynthetic gorgonians. They'll branch out like sps and sway with your limited flow.
You could always go for the easier SPS corals, like montipora caps. Its been bullet-proof in my tank and your setup is way more advanced than mine. I refuse to buy sticks lol
You scared me with your title, thought you were quitting! Happy you're still at it, love your channel and love your new setting. Keep at it CJ, do what you do, be easy :)
I know it sucks when things don't work out. But thank you for showing them. I have had the same issues trying to keep sps as well. So I am with you on the new plan. Thanks for the inspiration even when things don't work out. Thanks man!!!!
Thanks for sharing the highs and the lows in this build CJ. We all go through them and it's refreshing to see on RU-vid. Maybe try cyphastrea to give that encrusted look, Montis and birds nest could be a way to get into the sps more slowly. Monti setosa and hirsuta are pretty hardy
Nice to see the tank & glad to finally see another video 😂... Always cooking up a master plan (DarrylsReefing, got a new RU-vid name now. Thinking about turning this hobby into a brand & doing social media for it)
This is really a beautiful tank. Ive been watching alot of Vics tank tours on world wide corals youtube channel and your tank is just as impressive. Thanks for the hard work.
