Karen had the voice of an angel. It was heartbreaking living through the 70's and seeing her waste away. Reading the articles about her anorexia - we all knew what was going to happen, but we still cried when we lost her.

Those of us who lived in the 70's and heard Karen sing really know how amazing she was and why she is always #1 in our heart and soul! I think because she was taken from us way to soon that people of the mid 80's till today never got to hear her. If she were to still be here today I don't think anyone would be able to dispute that she is the Greatest of All! So blessed to have been able to hear The Carpenters, Karen & Richard!

This is one of my favorite songs and I used to sing along with Karen for a whole album, since I knew all the songs by heart, I had played them so often. Many of the songs that you guys review and react to "take me back", actually the main reason that I subscribed. "Sha-la-la-la", "Shing-a-ling" and "Woa-woa-woe" are trademarks of 1950s and early 1960s music! For a "crash course" in that music, you need go no further than the group "Sha Na Na". You guys are so right! Hearing a song from my childhood or high school/college years takes me back immediately to those days. I can tell people what year songs came out with a fair amount of accuracy because I remember where I was in my life when I first heard the song. I’m sure many others can do the same. Music is very powerful. My husband (a former MS/HS band director) and I instilled a love of music in our daughter from when she was little. We made sure she knew hits from the 70s and 80s. She, in turn, kept us in the loop on music that was popular while she was growing up. She’s now 21, and I’m grateful we had her or we would have missed out on some great music. Kids will do that to you ~ they keep you young. I still love Karen Carpenter ~ I think she’s my all-time fav female voice. Great reaction ~ love you guys! ☺️💕

This track is from the Carpenters' semi-concept album "Now & Then". This track began side 2, which then continues with a side-long medley of cover versions of 50s & 60s songs, so this song is very directly a commentary on the old songs we all know and love, whatever generation we're from... PS the medley is "interrupted" from time to time by a radio DJ, played by Tony Peluso, who played the amazing fuzz-guitar solo on "Goodbye To Love"...

Karen is honoring the music that came before especially with the 59 s and 60 s with the sha la las and shing a lings. The words, melodies of yesterday's music that influenced her first as a drummer and then a singer and as a musician who deeply listened to every lyric and song. So when you put in a record from the music that came before it can bring so much back whether joy or heartbreak. You guys should really check out her live drum solo to see what an amazing drummer she truly was. Drumming was her passion vs. Singing but her voice was discovered as lovely and unique as it was and the rest was history. There has never been another Karen. The harmonies and arrangements by her brother Richard just made magic with sis Karen.

Thanks team, you took me back to when I was a child, watching my mother sing along to this as she played records on the old school built in stereo. I remember her wearing huge cork platforms and denim jeans with bell bottoms so big they covered her platforms like a tent. She passed away late last century but this took me back immediately. Thanks for the memories. I miss her to this day

She was her own back up singer. She dubbed the harmonies to her own voice.. She was known to be perfect on her first take. Such a talent. So tragic to lose her at an early age.

This is exactly how music makes us feel. When I hear an old song, it can definitely take me back in time to a certain memory... so nostalgic and happy and sad at the same time.

This song came out when a 50s nostalgia craze was starting in the 70s. The Carpenters seemed to kick that craze into high gear.

Great reaction! Karen never gets on a Top 10 list of singing drummers and it's a shame, she's very underrated!

I agree that reaction videos are popular with the older generation (I’m 78) because they take us back to our youth and the wonderful music of years gone by. It’s been 2 years or so since the first one popped up on my phone. I was hooked immediately, seeing young people raving about “our” music, which we took for granted back in the day. The only problem I have with the Carpenters is that the minute I hear Karen’s voice, the tears start to fall. BTW-I watch a lot of different reaction channels, but yours is the only one I’ve subscribed to. I know you will keep up the good work. 👍

In the seventies there was a big 50s revival with Happy Days, twentieth anniversary of American Bandstand and the musical Grease on Broadway. Those are the kind of tunes this alludes to

Thank-you! Yesterday Once More has been my favorite Carpenter song for nearly 50 years. Always makes me teary-eyed because the truth of the song grows with each passing decade (as Amber mentioned). Takes me back to my 14 year old self doing her homework in her bedroom. :) I enjoyed your reaction and it was well worth the wait--thanks again!

Richard was a true musical genius. He listened to his sister’s voice and realized to tune her voice into the key of C. They were instrumental into using overdubs

I would love to see Richard's reaction when it first dawned on him just how special her voice was. He was truly a genius arranger and knew how to make Karen's voice be what it could be to us over 50 years later.

It was a treat to listen to The Carpenters on the radio back in the 70's. The arrangements, the voice, the songs. This is certainly one of their best. Superstar, and Hurting Each Other are two others that were my personal favorites and may not have gotten their due.

You know the Carpenters were simply part of my musical foundation as a child and one could easily list all the things that are appreciable about them and from that develop an appreciation for music in general. Just at the surface - when you hear something like this as your background noise at home when your 5 or 8 - you don't perceive that what you're getting is that the human family is awesome, the world IS a good place and that loving or feeling this way is a real thing, or a good thing or maybe just something worthy of acknowledgment. Magically, the most interesting, intriguing and powerful aspect about those key distinctive moments is when a song is so well crafted and delivered that it just has a way of pulling you into IT'S emotional space and immersing you in it. You're literally bathed in the emotions of these cool moments and it can be transformative - if you let it. Like a good book it can increase your vocabulary because you have enlarged your emotional reservoir and have new ways of expressing feelings - which is the juice of life. Consequently, it has the capacity of helping you make key distinctions about what matters most at times. It's magic, you can't see it... but you can definitely feel it - in this song. The Carpenters music in general may just be the best example of this phenomenon. Great reaction as always, guys! Love and hugs from Texas.

Karen Carpenter`s voice, for me, the number one, at the top of a female US singers ever, nobody can`t get even close to a this stunning, killer armonic voice pitch. Sadly, we lost her so many, many years ago. but in heaven, God has the pleasure to count with her. A bunch of songs to heal the soul of every human bean.
